The recent changes at Pro Wrestling NEXT has caused a great deal of controversy, no question about that. The dissolving of all P.W.N. titles to merge with the National Wrestling Alliance, only to have the N.W.A. situation turn into something we didn't see eye to eye with only added to the confusion. As stated before, we respect the vision and the direction of the National Wrestling Alliance, but our vision goes beyond the N.W.A. wrestlers.
Add to the fact that disgruntled wrestlers have voiced their complaints. In the case of former Champions, DANNY DANIELS and HUNTER MATTHEWS, they have legit reasons to claim top contender to ANY championship match, and rightfully so!
So how do you remedy the situation? To hide it and pretend it doesn't exist makes no sense. Pro Wrestling NEXT will tackle it head-on, as it should be dealt with, so we can move forward in a positive and productive manner.
As P.W.N. chose to host championship matches from established, outside promotions, the names of Danny Daniels and Hunter Matthews topped the list of challengers for those title shots.
In the case of Daniels, his frustrations have led to him leaving Pro Wrestling NEXT. It's an unfortunate situation, but we here at P.W.N. only wish the very best for Danny Daniels, and his future endeavors.
Hunter Matthews, on the other hand, has chosen a different path to take. His recent behavior goes beyond the conduct of a champion. His voicemail and email threats of legal action, is one thing, but attempting to delete this website and write potentially damaging information on the front page is simply unprofessional and WILL NOT be tolerated.
His claims as a top contender are valid, but his conduct leads us to question the type of performers we wish to reward with big matches.
The question is now, what to do? After careful consideration, and a face-to -face talk with Hunter Matthews late Wednesday night, Pro Wrestling NEXT has reached a decision.
Hunter Matthews demanded a championship match, and has signed an open contract to face ANY champion brought in for the Bierstube Bash 2.
With that said, Pro Wrestling NEXT is proud to announce our MAIN EVENT for Aug. 21st at the Bierstube bash 2, in Moline, IL.
Representing COMBAT ZONE WRESTLING, will be " THE PSYCHO SHOOTER" DRAKE YOUNGER defending the CZW WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP vs. HUNTER MATTHEWS. This match will be fought under CZW rules, which is- ANYTHING GOES!
For more info on CZW please visit: www.czwrestling.com
For those not familiar of Drakes work heres a highlight showcasing some of his work.
AUGUST 21st will mark the debut of RYAN DRAGO. Drago, who started with the San Francisco based All Pro Wrestling, was trained by Bryan Danielson, before joining the Pro Wrestling IRON camp and continuing his education with Mike Modest and Donovan Morgan. In early 2008, he continued his instruction in Eldon, Missouri under the eye of Harley Race, where he remains today. It is rare that a wrestler have such a resume of educational experience. Drago, will no doubt bring his hard hitting, submission style of wrestling to Pro Wrestling NEXT with the intent on rising to the top of the roster.
Here is a taste of what DRAGO will bring to the table:
As stated previously, Pro Wrestling NEXT is seeking out the most respected Champions of independent wrestling, the hottest feuds and most promising wrestlers to showcase on our upcoming shows. We hope this different approach to independent wrestling is one that not only expands the exposure of the wrestlers, but also creates interest and expands our fanbase, as our scope widens far beyond the mid-west wrestling scene.
On Aug. 21st, in Moline, IL. one of these intense match-ups will take place. It will be TONY KOZINA vs. TIM DONST. This feud, which began in Philadelphia at Chikara's King of Trios weekend, OUTSIDE of the wrestling arena is still boiling over! There was one controversial match between the two that took place a shot while ago in Indianapolis for the IPW promotion, and fans there have begged for a re-match since that time. In that match, it was feared that KOZINA blew his knee out after his hurricanrana from the top to the floor. And it was TIM DONST who targeted that knee to score a victory after KOZINA passed out after being locked in a Boston crab. In the video above, KOZINA said "name your city". Pro Wrestling NEXT has named that city. That city will be Moline, IL. and the set date is Aug. 21st!
As is the case in independent wrestling, things happen that are out of our control. It is our duty as wrestling promoters to respond as best we can to keep our cards full of the best possible action. The goal being, of course, to give our fans the best action for their hard earned money.
It is with regret that Pro Wrestling NEXT that THE IRISH AIRBORNE have pulled out of their scheduled title defense for Aug. 21st. However, in place of The Irish Airborne, we are pleased to announce that there will STILL be a tag team Championship bout.
Special thanks to the LETHAL WRESTLING ALLIANCE, and their tag team champions- EVAN GELISTICO and PIERRE ABERNATHY, also known as THE SUBMISSION SQUAD, for stepping up to defend their titles against THE HOOLIGANS.
Gelistico and Abernathy, while new to PWN rings, are no strangers to tag team success, having found tag team gold not only in the Missouri based LWA, but also in Texas for the ACW promotion.
They were also one of the chosen few to take part in Chikara's 2009 King of Trios tournament this past March in Philadelphia.
Aug. 21st brings forth two teams looking for opportunity. Who wins? Who loses? Who walks away with the gold? Time will only tell.
Aug. 21st Moline, IL. For the LWA tag team championship- The Submission Squad (c) vs. The Hooligans.
In the wake of this last minute change, we are giving our fans another reason to be there at the Bierstube Bash 2, in Moline, IL.
On Aug. 21st a superstar from Puerto Rico's WWC and IWA promotions will debut.
"THE ISLAND ASSASSIN" NORIEGA will bring his lucha libre style to the PWN ring along with his impressive resume.
Noriega is a former IWA World tag team champion. A former IWA Intercontinental title. A 4-time WWC Universal tag team champion, and has held the most famous of titles in Puerto Rico- The WWC Universal Heavyweight Championship, which he won in August of 2008.
There was only one opponent PWN had in mind when it was informed that "The Island Assassin" had confirmed for Aug. 21st. SAMURAY DEL SOL.
This could be the show stealer of the night. In what will no doubt be a lucha style showdown, Samuray Del Sol vs. Noriega will put it all on the line in Moline!
One of the directions Pro Wrestling NEXT is going, is to present opportunities to young, hungry wrestlers, looking to establish themselves on the independent wrestling scene. One of our goals is to present the most dominant young performers with matches against the top stars of independent wrestling in an effort to help make them an even BETTER performer! It's simply called rewarding hard work.
On Aug. 21st two hungry young wrestlers will clash to see who will move ahead, and who goes back to the drawing board. Pro Wrestling NEXT is pleased to announce JESSE EMERSON vs. AARON SCOTT.
JESSE EMERSON, who is also a 2008 graduate from Samford University's Cumberland School of Law, has wrestled in various promotions in Ohio, Tennesse, Indiana, and Alabama, and is looking to add to his wrestling resume with a strong showing on Aug. 21st.
AARON SCOTT, who is no stranger to P.W.N. rings, is a student of DAVEY RICHARDS and one half of the tag team, FULL THROTTLE alongside BRANDON MARINO. With Marino sidelined with a knee injury, Scott has pushed forward with singles competition and looks to bring his over the top intensity, much like that of his mentor, to Moline, IL. on Aug. 21st.
