Scars and Stripes has always been one of AAW's biggest shows of the year. With the eighth and biggest installment only a few days away here is a brief history of the first seven Scars and Stripes shows. *Note all of these shows are available on DVD in the merchandise section of AAWrestling.com and SmartMarkvideo.com July 9th 2005. AAW holds the innagural "Scars and Stripes" at the Berwyn Rec Center. AAW Newcomer Eric Priest defeats Scotty Sabre. Jerry Lynn makes a triumphant return. Machine dominates Mark Madison in a barbed wire match. A young tag team by the name of "The Black and the Brave" were in action. Keith Walker and Jay Bradley have an absolute war that puts Walker on the map. In the main event Tony Scarpone and Robert "Ego" Anthony battle in a last man standing match for the AAW championship. With the help of Jim Jesus, Ego becomes the first two time champion. July 15th, 2006. The 2nd annual "Scars and Stripes" is held. "The Man Beast" Rhyno debuts but is unsuccessful in his bid to win the AAW Heavyweight title against Tyler Black. Silas Young ends his feud with Jason Dukes in a Berwyn Street fight. Bryce Benjamin and Chandler McClure end their feud in a submission match. Marek Brave wins a fatal four way match against Jimmy Jacobs, Trik Davis and the debuting M-Dogg 20 in what many called the 2006 match of the year. The main event saw the returns of Keith Walker and Ego as they took on Danny Daniels and Eric Priest to defend the honor of the company. The night ended with JJ Inc standing over the beaten bodies of their advesaries. July 14th 2007- "Scars and Stripes '07". Eric Priest continues his win streak by defeating Joey Mercury to retain the Heritage title. Arik Cannon and the Northstar Express get a big win in their debut match. Krotch overcomes the odds and wins a battle royal that earns him a shot at Jerry Lynn's Heavyweight title. The main event sees the JJ Inc team of Tyler Black and Chandler McClure defeat Jayson Reign and Danny Daniels in a wild Berwyn Street Fight. The match features one of the most memorable moments in AAW history as Daniels hits Black with a top rope flipping piledriver through a table. July 12th 2008- "Scars and Stripes '08". In a war that is still being waged one year later Silas Young and Josh Raymond meet one on one. Arik Cannon continues to climb the ladder in the singles ranks with a win over Christian Able. Dan Lawrence defeats Zach Gowen but is then beaten down and has his hair cut by Truth Martini. In an emotional farewell "The Gold Standard" Eric Priest is defeated by Chandler McClure in his final professional wrestling match. In a match where the losers would recieve ten lashes, The Phoenix Twins are defeated by long time rivals the Northstar Express and their manager Joey Eastman throws more feul on the fire using a contract loophole to force the brothers to whip each other with a strap. In the main event Tyler Black captures the AAW Heavyweight title for a second time defeating Jerry Lynn to a thunderous ovation from the Berwyn crowd. July 11th 2009- "Scars and Stripes 09". Tag Team wrestling takes center stage as newcomers Faith in Nothing, The Northstar Express, Dan Lawrence/Silas Young, The House of Truth and The Phoenix Twins all pick up big wins. Jay Bradley successfully defends his AAW Heavyweight Title against Tyler Black. The main event is a brutal Stariway to Hell Ladder Match where Arik Cannon outlasts Shane Hollister to retain his AAW Heritage Title. July 10th 2010- "Scars and Stripes 2010". Louis Lyndon gets a big win over Mason Beck after interefence from Truth Martini backfires. Martini then dismisses Beck from the House of Truth. Krotch and MsChif end their feud with the Northstar Express in a wild Berwyn Street Fight that spills outside on to 26th St and half the crowd follows making for a wild scene. Arik Cannon continues his second AAW Heritage Title reign with a hard fought victory over Flip Kendrick. A promo from Joey Eastman announces he is returning to AAW after more than a year absence. In the Main Event, Dan Lawrence steps in for an injured Jimmy Jacobs and teams with Tyler Black to successfully defend the AAW Tag Team Titles over Zero Gravity and The House of Truth in a three way elimination match. July 23rd 2011- "Scars and Stripes 2011". This event will always be remebered for the shocking surprise appearance of WWE Champion CM Punk. After Colt Cabana and Gregory Iron came up short in their bid for the AAW Tag Team Titles Cabana brought out Punk to a thunderous ovation. Punk would go on to praise Iron's courage for following his dream of being a pro wrestler despite having cerebral palsy. The video would quickly go viral and is without a doubt one of the biggest moments in AAW History. The other big happening that night was Silas Young regaining the AAW Heavyweight belt from Dan Lawrence in a 2 out of 3 falls main event. Young still holds the belt to this day. AAW continues the tradition on Saturday night at 115 Bourbon St for Scars and Stripes 2012. The show will be headilned by a double main event featuring Davey Richards taking on Fit Finaly and a Triple Threat Ladder match for the AAW Heavyweight Title as Silas Young defends against both of the AAW Tag Team Champions; Jimmy Jacobs and Arik Cannon. Do not miss Scars and Stripes this Saturday night as we make history once again! www.AAWrestling.com

So if there is no change this weekend, and no defense until Monday, Silas will have held the belt for over a year, the second time he will have done that. Either way, it speaks to how talented he is and how much he has means to AAW.
I can't say he's carried AAW by himself, but he done more than his fair share of the heavy lifting.

I really think the match between Silas and Tyler in October of 09 was where Tyler moved on and Silas took over as the man. Even though the finish was a double pin it was a changing of the guard. Now we have to see who takes it from Silas.

If you haven't seen it already, my latest Pro Wrestling Extra article on my Elaborating on Entertainment blog features AAW's Phil Colvin talking about Scars & Stripes with Fit Finlay vs. Davey Richards on 7/21 in Merrionette Park. You can check out the blog article at the following link, where I hope you will leave a comment: blogs.southtownstar.com/entertainment/2012/07/pro_wrestling_extra_a_conversa_66.htmlA few notes about using the "Leave a comment" feature on the blog:-- While there is a field asking you to provide your e-mail address, that e-mail address will not be shown to the public once your comment is posted. -- The grey Captcha box sometimes trips up people because it's hard to see and very particular about the characters being typed in exactly. To be on the safe side, you should copy your text elsewhere before hitting the Submit button in case the Captcha kicks out your comment. -- If you've used the "Leave a comment" feature correctly, you'll get a message saying that your submission is pending approval. Note: I approve all non-spam comments as soon as I see they have been submitted. Feel free to pass along the link to others who you think might want to share their comments about this topic.
