I'm sitting in the production studio in Tampa right now, as we work on Ring of Honor's debut pay-per-view, "Respect Is Earned." This is a very exciting, and somewhat stressful time for all of us at ROH, as well as everyone at SHIMMER. Both companies are in the midst of their own stages of growth, with ROH moving to PPV and SHIMMER holding its first double shot weekend of live events coming up on 6/1 & 6/2 in Berwyn, as well as our first live show in Florida on 7/1.
There's some positive news and some negative news regarding SHIMMER DVD production at the moment. The negative news is that, with all of the hours we're putting into working on the ROH PPV edit, as well as several ROH DVDs shot during the month of April, I'm not going to be able to sign off on the final edit of the Volume 8 DVD in time for us to have copies on the merch table on 6/1 & 6/2. I'm very picky about the editing of our DVD series, and I didn't want to rush Volume 8 through without screening the final version myself first and making any final changes. As much as I would've loved to have 8 on the table tourney weekend (we could use the merchandise money!), it just wasn't in the cards with everything we have on our plate at the moment.
Since we get actual DVDs pressed (they're not just DVD-Rs we can burn immediately), there's approximately a two week process as far as getting our order completed, plus the time it takes to ship the boxes of DVDs after they are done being made. It's looking like we'll just barely miss the tourney weekend, and Volume 8 should be available the following weekend through ROH.
On the positive side of things, we now have a separate editor that will be focusing on the SHIMMER DVD series for us. Up until now, the ROH, FIP, and SHIMMER DVD editing has been done by one individual, and obviously the ROH shows take priority over its sister companies. A big part of why SHIMMER and FIP DVD titles have been released several months after they were filmed is because the ROH workload has been so huge that it left little time to get SHIMMER and FIP projects completed. Now that we have our own editor, the SHIMMER titles will be able to be edited and released basically at our discretion.
As soon as we complete "Respect Is Earned," I'll be able to sign off on Volume 8 and get that sent off for the DVDs to be made. We'll be working on the Long Island and Edison ROH DVDs on Thursday night, and I fly back to Chicago on Friday. This Saturday, I'll be at the AAW event in Berwyn at the Eagles Club (and for those interested, I will have General Admission ticket packages available at intermission at the AAW show).
Early next week, Volume 9 will begin production. Next weekend, we're back here in Tampa for two FIP events, plus production on ROH's St. Paul and Chicago DVDs. That following Monday, Danger arrives in Florida and we put the finishing touches on the edit of Volume 9 and fly out Tuesday morning. The plan is to send off Volume 9 to be made as soon as the edit is complete. Some final local promotional work in Chicago will occupy the days that follow, until Friday and Saturday in Berwyn for the title tournament.
As you can tell, it's a very busy few weeks for us, and we have a ton to get accomplished during that time period... but we're doing our best to keep giving you a product you can be proud to support.
All of the tournament participants are set for their travel and are ready to head to Chicago for 6/1 & 6/2. Additionally, several other wrestlers will be involved in non-tournament matches during the course of the weekend, including some unexpected new faces appearing for us for the very first time.
For those wondering (and I know you're going to hate me for this), we're not going to be announcing the tournament participants or bracketing officially before 6/1 arrives. As we all learned through Jazz's family emergency last taping, things do happen that wind up changing the card at the last minute, and with over 20 wrestlers all traveling to Chicago that weekend, if we are forced to make any last minute changes to the bracketing and such, we need to have that flexibility to do so on the day of the show.
For the Volumes 9 & 10 taping, you showed such faith in our product that with only one announced match, we were able to sell out the Eagles Club for the live event. Tickets for the title tourney weekend are moving just as fast with no matches announced this time, and we're very appreciative of your confidence in us to deliver.
Look for a brand new SHIMMERwrestling.com web site to launch during the next few days, and if you don't have your tickets for the title tournament weekend yet and plan on attending live, make sure you get them while they're still available. Thanks everybody!
