Action, action, and just more action as 225 fans were treated to a great night of wrestling last night in Fox Lake!
Starting the night out was the rematch- 3rd in a series- between American History Next, and Wild Mayhem. Before the bell sounded, Justin James claimed the mic, and proceeded to discuss his "vision" of Wild Mayhem beating AHN. The match started off with James pushing both of his guys into AHN while their backs were turned, starting a sneak attack and a slew of tandem offence, culminating with Mikey Wild going for a moonsault, but coming up just short. Then it was back to business as usual for these 4 men, with AHN both lashing out with vicious chops to their opponents. Finally things got down to one on one in ring action, Steve Stone abusing Mikey Wild, flipping him from the corner high into the air before Wild face planted hard. Wild managed to slip away to tag in Matt Mayhem, who was slapped down to the mat, and when he tried to sit up, he caught not one, but two pairs of boots to the face. Wild came back in, and started to turn things around until Hardcore Craig nailed Mayhem with a TKO. The ref counted to 6 before anyone could get to their feet, and then Stone climbed back in to clean house, taking off Mayhem's head with a brutal clothesline, but Wild was back up to return the favor with solid kicks to Stone's dome for a 2 1/2 count. Wild and Stone back on their feet, and as Wild attempted chops of his own to the chest of Stone- who lived up to his name by taking the blows with barely a shrug. All 4 men now back in the ring together, and AHN hit duel clotheslines on Wild Mayhem, Stone follows Wild who slips outside seeking shelter, but when Hardcore Craig went to put Mayhem away, Justin James grabbed his leg, resulting in Mayhem getting the pinfall.
Just as it was being announced that Wild Mayhem were the winners, Mikey Wild grabbed the mic and said that he made a pledge earlier this week that he no longer wanted to use cheating methods in his matches. He told the ref what James had done, and the ref then reversed the outcome of the match- making American History Next the winners. Stone offered his respect for the guts it took to tell the ref what happened, and Hardcore Craig challenged Wild Mayhem to another rematch, which was quickly accepted, and the members of Wild Mayhem made their way to the back, obviously not all on the same page about what had just taken place.
2nd match of the night saw World Title hopeful X-Con taking on the living breathing flashback from the 60s, Eric Freedom. From the start, X-Con clearly overpowered Freedom, tossing him down to the mat. There was a large pro-Con contingent in the crowd at Fox Lake this night. As Freedom regained his footing, he hit a series of headlock takedowns, every one of them followed by X-Con putting him in a headscissors before Freedom slid his way out. Finally X-Con tiring of the same back and forth left the ring for a breather. Returning to the ring, he went right back to out-muscling Freedom, putting him into the ropes and leading the ref away, giving his manager Staublein a chance to choke Freedom on the ropes. X-Con then begins wearing Freedom down with crushing bearhugs, Freedom managed to fight his way out before hitting a desperation DDT. The ref counts to 7 before the men are able to climb back to their feet, Freedom attempts a "Hippy Hippy Shake", but X-Con reverses to an atomic drop and grabs the tights to roll up for the pin. I predicted a win for X-Con earlier this week... never predicted it would be a clean victory.
Match #3 was the brutal 6 man tag between the M.O.B. and Outta Control. After the brutal beatdown O.C. and Deputy Commish Ruff Crossing suffered at the hands of the M.O.B. last week, this week Crossing came to the ring and announced that if this match lasted longer than 5 minutes, it would change rules and become No Holds Barred! I predicted an O.C. victory from the get go, with these rules in place- they had to be a sure thing.
Jimmy Blaze and Trevor Blanchard started things off with Blaze backing Blanchard into the ropes, and preceding to stomp his face in. Joey Cece and Black Iron were the next two men to get in the ring and mix it up, with Cece clearly out-wrestling Black Iron before tagging in Terry Allen. Both men take Black Iron out, and when Brandon Bishop and Blanchard charge in to make the save, T.A. sends them both to the mat with stiff shots to the head. Blaze tags back into the match, and chops Blanchard before nailing him with a flying clothesline off the 2nd rope. Cece and Bishop back in the ring now, and the 5 minutes have elapsed- making this match now anything goes. And so it did!
With all men in the ring, O.C. took control and sent the entirety of the M.O.B. to the floor outside. O.C. took the chairs that had been thrown in the ring, and sat down in the middle of the ring, taunting M.O.B. to come get them. M.O.B. charged in, and O.C. slid out, but when M.O.B. went to sit down, someone (ref Pee Wee Parella) made sure the chairs were just out of reach, and M.O.B. crashed down collectively to the mat. After that- it's was non-stop brutality as chairs, kendo sticks, baking pans, and garbage cans were all used to their worst most violent potentials. Bishop put T.A. face first into a chair with the Pedigree, but Blaze made the save, Blaze got a 2 count as he busted a fan's pop can over Bishop's head. Blaze and Blanchard then fought outside of the ring, down the hall, and to the outside of the building. Blanchard was the only man to return to the ring at first, but he wasn't in time to save Bishop from being pinned by T.A. in the center of the ring. As the M.O.B. got back into the ring to attack T.A. and Cece, Blaze returned and unloaded with a barrage of snowballs to the embarrassed members of the M.O.B.
Next up was a return match between Adam Evans and Steve Boz. Evans had a hard scrap match against Regional Champ Chris Cairo last week, and had to still be feeling some of the effects of the beating he took, but regardless, Evans with Nick H. in tow was cocky as ever. He went to attack Boz from behind, but Boz took it in stride, and gave it right back, which saw Evans leave the ring for a little peptalk from his well loved (sarcasm) manager. "Adam Sucks" chants from the crowd gave Evans the fire to return to the ring, and after 2 knockdowns, he told Boz to get packing. But the crowd was solidly behind Boz, and "He's All That" was having none of Evans' bull. Boz took control for a bit, and sent Evans back out to the floor, but the numbers game is hard to beat, and when Evans distracted the ref, Nick H. took full advantage, choking the life out of Boz, before turning things back over to Evans. Boz tried to mount a comeback, making a dive for Evans, that saw Boz miss and fall to the outside, again giving Nick H. the opportunity to attack. Back inside the ring, the action continued, and after managing to hit a series of sharp kicks to Evans, Boz went to put him away, but Nick H. had the ref's ear, and the ref missed the pinfall. Evans took advantage of the frustrated Boz and took him out- scoring the pinfall before scooting quickly from the ring. Boz, disgusted with ref Pee Wee Parella- and not for the first time, sent Pee Wee to the ropes with the intent to kick his head clean off, but Pee Wee grabbed the ropes and threw himself outside of the ring to avoid the beating. I thought Boz would have this one sewn up, but the crafty Evans and his devious manager Nick H. proved that once again, cheaters do- sadly, sometimes win. Have no doubts though POWW fans, the won't be the last time these men step in the ring together, and you can expect Boz to be looking for retribution in the near future.
Match #5 saw a return to Tag Team action between Pure Evil and Thunderfoot/Dundee. The last time these two teams met it ended in double countout with no clear winner, this time around I hate to admit, but I thought Pure Evil would be putting Thunderfoot and Dundee away, however, I'm pleased to report this wasn't the case. As Dundee and Spade started things out in the ring, the wily Dundee score knockdowns on both members of Pure Evil before Thunderfoot joined him in the ring for some tandem offense. Dehok frustrated grabs his pitchfork and storms the ring, Thunderfoot responds in kind with his Jawbone, and both men take swings at each other... luckily for them, neither man connecting until finally the ref made both men put the weapons away. Thunderfoot and Dundee with quick tags both working over Spade but Dehok came in to break it up and save his partner. As the action went back and forth, things turned in Pure Evil's favor when Spade began choking Dundee with his chain as the ref's back was turned. Thunderfoot breaks up the pin attempt, the ref sends him back to his corner, and Dundee gets isolated in enemy territory. Dundee tries a quick rollup to no avail, but finally manages to tag in Thunderfoot who cleans house. All 4 men find their way outside the ring to continue brawling as the ref counts to 10, and again things end in double countout.
Ruff Crossing comes out again, and says that at Slamfest he wants to see a clear winner in this feud. So at Slamfest it will be Pure Evil and Thunderfoot/Dundee in a Falls Count Anywhere match. I for one, can't wait.
Match #6 saw the continuation of the feud between Kanoa and Diego Corleone- which has been heating up week after week. It's been solidly back and forth between the two men, though not without a lot of controversy and outside involvement.
The match began with a tug of war between Kanoa and Diego using the Strangler's ever present hangman's noose. Kanoa took quick control, and Diego ran to the outside for the comforting arms of Nick H. (sallys, the both of them) As Diego climbed back in, Kanoa caught him up in the tree of woe, and sends him back down with a solid dropkick. The action leaves the ring, goes down the rampway, and into the back, before both men come back out, Diego on Kanoa's back with a sleeper locked in. Kanoa manages to shrug Diego off and back into the ring, but Nick H. distracts the ref as Diego chokes Kanoa with his hangman's noose. Kanoa's left hanging up on the ropes and then Diego distracts the ref, letting Nick H. choke Kanoa as well. Diego gets Kanoa in a sleeper, but Kanoa rallies back and hits a senton. Both men stay down for a ref's 6 count, but Kanoa gets to his feet first and takes control, setting Diego up for a samoan drop, before rolling forward planting Diego hard, getting a near fall for his efforts. Nick H. tries to interfere but Kanoa punches him out, and nails Diego with a spinebuster for the win. After the match, Diego, Evans, and Nick H. lay a beating into Kanoa, before his "Mystery Woman" comes out to beg them off. The three men then focus their attention on her, holding her back in the corner as Nick H. makes ready for a chairshot. Steve Boz comes out and makes the save, but as Kanoa gets to his feet, he proves to be ungrateful for the rescue, telling Boz he looks like a woman, and he only needs one of them coming out to the ring for him. Then Kanoa makes a challenge against Boz for Slamfest, which Boz accepts. What is going on in Kanoa's head?
The last match of the night was the POWW Royal to determine the #1 contender for Chris Cairo's Regional Title.
The entrance order was Eric Freedom and Hardcore Craig to start things off, followed by Adam Evans, Scott Spade, Thunderfoot, Mikey Wild, Steve Stone, Trevor Blanchard- who brought Brandon Bishop to the ring with him, where Bishop remained for the entire match, Matt Mayhem, Black Iron, Steve Boz, Diego Corleone, Dehok, Jamie Dundee, and the last entrant- Kanoa.
Which left Eric Freedom, Adam Evans, Trevor Blanchard, and Hardcore Craig as the last 4 men in the ring. Freedom and Evans were both quickly dispatched however, leaving just Hardcore Craig, and Trevor Blanchard. Blanchard went to toss Hardcore Craig over the ropes, but his feet stayed on the ring apron, as the ref was looking at Bishop on one side of the ring, Black Iron made the assist and pulled Hardcore Craig the rest of the way to the ground before ducking out of sight. When the ref turned and saw Blanchard as the only man left in the ring, he declared him the victor, thus giving him the Regional Title shot at Slamfest.
Hardcore Craig made his displeasure felt, and told the M.O.B. that American History Next would be gunning for them. Then Regional Champ Chris Cairo came out with the mic and talked about how it was 1 year ago that the M.O.B. cheated to win the tag belts from him and Kanoa, but this year, regardless of the odds against him, he's coming straight for them for a little payback. Charging into the ring the numbers game quickly puts Cairo at the disadvantage, and he's beaten down before Outta Control's Terry Allen comes out to make the save.
X-Con then comes out and promises a surprise to Terry Allen and Brandon Bishop at Slamfest, which prompts Ruff Crossing to come out, and announce that at Slamfest, the #1 contendership match for the World Title between X-Con and Terry Allen, if O.C. comes to interfere, Terry Allen is disqualified, and if at any point in that match, or the one to follow later that night between the winner of X-Con/Terry Allen and Champion Brandon Bishop, the M.O.B. comes out- Bishop will be stripped of the title.
So the night closes out with many announcements that mean many good things for the nights to come. Slamfest is shaping up to be one amazing card, and we're only a few weeks away. Can you feel the excitement building?
