Night of the Open Championship Challenge reigns as another VWAA success. The fans on hand were amazing and the VWAA would like to thank all that attended.
The rules for the night were simple. The current champion was announced a came to the ring. Then, Studd Muffin was handed an index card by a championship committee member that had the champion’s opponent listed. As Studd Muffin headed toward the ring to give this information to the ring announcer and also the music controller, the committee notified the wrestlers in the locker room who the challenger would in fact be. Unfortunately for Studd Muffin, these minor delays gave Baltazar all the time he needed between announcements to come to the ring and speak his mind to Studd Muffin and the fans on the situation. Baltazar was unhappy with the decision Studd Muffin made to keep “The Unholy One’ off of NOTOCC and was going to make sure everyone was aware of his discord.
The first title defense was for the GYMW Heavyweight Championship. To date, this title was not recognized by the VWAA, but Sal DiNero’s constant boasting of the title and how proud of it he was made the committee decide that it must be defended if such claims were to continue. Sal DiNero himself was unable to defend the title as he was off christening another Giuseppe, number 10 to be exact, into the world. As a result, DiNero demanded that Zygo was to defend the vacant “prop title” in his stead. Before the opponent was announced, Baltazar made his intentions for the night clear. Of course, Studd Muffin shot his wrestling aspirations down and got Baltazar to leave ringside. The opponent chosen for Zygo was The Demon of Damen, Atlas. Zygo had few offensive moves throughout the match and eventually resorted to silly string to the eyes of Atlas, but Atlas would still prevail and rather easily defeated Zygo. Referee Bobby J then tried to award Atlas with the handmade GYMW Prop Title which seemed to disgust Atlas more than anything. Atlas wouldn’t even touch the title and eventually announced that he did not want it and disharmoniously deposited it over Zygo. Giuseppe #7 quickly grabbed the dispensed title to bring back to his Papi no doubt.
The Furies were up next and eagerly awaited their opponents. First out was The Urban Gladiator, Trauma. The partner chosen for Trauma was The Nigerian Nightmare, Akuma, however, Johnny Wild had other plans. Although Wild does want the VWAA tag team championship for his team of The Wild Side, he did not want to share the championship with Trauma. As a result, Wild hired Don The Destroyer to take the place of Akuma for the night. Although the action was allowed by referee Bobby J, the VWAA Championship Committee is furious with Johnny Wild and plan on hefty fines. The Furies naturally dominated against the oddly formed team of Trauma and The Destroyer, and it didn’t help that the entire Industrial Studio erupted with a “Peter Griffin” chant against Don The Destroyer either. Trauma and The Destroyer did hold their own against Rick Walsh for a good portion of the match, but Trauma eventually left his forced partner when things between them became heated and Mitch Blake began cleaning house. The fall came easily when it was two on one leaving The Furies to stand alone still VWAA Tag Team Champions.
Baltazar came to the ring and challenged Juggalo J-City for his VWAA Hardcore Kingship immediately after J-City was announced. Again, Studd Muffin stepped in to defy “The Unholy One” a chance for a title, but Baltazar promised to appear again later as he left the ringside. The chosen opponent for J-City was Thomas Sinclair. He proved to be a dangerous opponent for J-City since Sinclair brought just as much wrestling into this match as he did hardcore style. J-City was clearly out-classed by Sinclair when it came to wrestling, but fortunate for him, steel chairs and the like are allowed in hardcore matches. One notable point was that J-City relentlessly worked on Sinclair’s knee. Taking out that appendage on Sinclair is the smartest thing any wrestler can do, but in this hardcore match, it ascertained J-City’s awareness that his kingship was in fact in danger against Sinclair. A few well placed chair shots and an awkward, miscued interference by Don T Trust left Sinclair down for the 10 count.
Mad Dog Ivan Manson quickly accepted the challenge put to him by Baltazar when he once again interfered between announcements. By this time, it was clear that Studd Muffin was irate. Admittedly, Studd kept Baltazar out of NOTOCC, but he had to adhere to the decisions of the VWAA Championship Committee for the night as well, and to add to Studd’s anger, Lilith thieved Studd’s cane as he was ranting. The words exchanged between Studd and Baltazar were very heated at this point, and it was clear to everyone on hand that even though Baltazar left the ringside once more, something was going to happen before the night’s end. Willie Richardson, The Urban American Dream, was to challenge Ivan Manson according to the committee, but before the match started, Ratt J Flywheel hit the ring and shocked everyone by stating that the Committee had let him be the special guest referee for the match since Ivan had had the same responsibility two weeks earlier in one of Machine’s matches. The fans loved both of these men, but that didn’t stop either man from trouncing one another, but perhaps the most shocking aspect of all was that Flywheel officiated impartially and was able to control both Willie and Ivan throughout the match. Ivan fought typical Division Street style, but Willie brought a new desire with him to the ring and was able to take punishing blow after blow from the champ and resolve to fight back fiercely. The match seemed to start to lean toward the favor of Willie who was hitting maneuver after maneuver, but when it appeared to Ratt that Willie would actually get the final fall on Ivan Manson, Ratt exited the ring and grabbed the steel garbage can he brought with him to the ring and pummeled both Willie and Ivan relentlessly. After the beating, Ratt left the ring and the fans confused. The final decision was “no contest.” Ivan and Willie helped each other to their feet and shook hands both feeling robbed but both also now having a common enemy in Machine and Ratt J Flywheel.
Baltazar made his final appearance for the night before the second main event. He was beyond trying to get a match for the night but also refused to leave the ring area. As a result, Studd Muffin sent out GYMW members on hand as expendable Baltazar fodder. Finally, after the most severe heated VWAA argument ever, Baltazar did leave the ring allowing for the second main event to take place. Isaias Velazquez, the current undisputed VWAA Circuit Champion, made his way to the ring and soon found out there were a couple surprises awaiting him for this match. The first is that Jordan Pryde had signed, albeit accidentally, to be the special guest referee for the match. The second was that the Circuit Title would be defended in a 3-way match with one fall to a finish. Isaias’ opponents were Ovirload of Team KO and Lamar Titan of Fall In Ruins. The match was CLEARLY match of the night and has been officially entered as the first match to be entered into the running for the VWAA Match of the Year for 2008. This match defies mere description and could never do it justice. These men simply beat the hell out of one another and ended with Isaias still holding the VWAA Circuit Title as well as having the FULL Industrial Studio attendance on their feet clapping for the VWAA talent. The continued effort of these men as well as the VWAA as a whole is why success is the only acceptable outcome, and it is why the fans chant, “THIS IS VANGUARD!”
Next up for the VWAA is April 5th back at the VWAA Industrial Studio. Admission will be $5 and bell time is 7pm as usual. The card will be announced shortly.
