Crowning of the Champ- one of the biggest shows of the year, unpredictable twists and turns, and stiff competition with every belt on the line- all in one match!
This year's show lived up to all the hype, and then some.
To kick things off, Mr. Ricolo introduced Scott Spade who would be guest commentating during the opening matchup, Chris Cairo taking on Dehok, Spade's former partner.
Dehok made his feelings for Spade known by coming out in a mocking display of Spades appearance (as well as a mocking of fans' desire for him to put a shirt on) by appearing in a painted on singlet top and colorful full sleeve fake tattoos.
Dehok was all bluff and bluster as the moment Cairo came to the ring Dehok ducked out, only returning when the bell was rung to signal the start of the match. The two men went back and forth to kick the match off until Dehok hit a big splash in the corner, but following it up with an overconfident pin allowed Cairo the kick out at 2. Dehok held on to control but Cairo managed to break out with a russian leg sweep followed by a lionsault attempt. Dehok capitalized on the near miss cornering Cairo and laying into him with a series of closed fists which brought ref Bob "Pee Wee" Parrella over to lead him off, Dehok backed Parrella away only to return to brutalizing Cairo. Things turned around when after ducking a clothesline Cairo hit a shoulder block, followed by an elbow drop off the turnbuckle. As Dehok rose to his feet, Cairo nailed the Bum Rush to put the demon away. As Cairo celebrated his win, Dehok beat the "Lost Soul" down, and was about to take the fan favorite apart with his pitchfork when Spade stormed the ring, taking the weapon away and setting up for the Ace Crusher. But Dehok had his former partner scouted and managed to squirm away and out of the ring. Spade left the ring after taking the mic and demanding a match with Dehok later this month.
Hardcore Craig then came out to take the mic and inform the fans and everyone in the back that Steve Stone wasn't able to be there that night, as he had suffered a concussion and was under doctor's orders not to compete. Craig said that as a result, he would need a new tag partner to hold the Tag Titles with him for the main event. He'd be keeping an eye on every match that night, and whoever impressed him the most would get the shot.
For the second match of the night the M.O.B. came out to the ring in full force, with Jade, Justin James, and Black Iron all coming to ringside to support Trevor Blanchard in his bout against Mikey Wild. After a short stand off where each man sized up the other Blanchard slammed Wild, Wild began his retaliation before Blanchard broke it up by claiming he'd had his hair pulled. Wild took advantage again taking control of the head and keeping the pressure locked in, taking Blanchard down to the mat. Blanchard got to a vertical base, but Wild went up the turn buckles and took Blanchard back down and over, continuing to wrench on Blanchard's head. Blanchard finally managed to wrench loose and score a neckbreaker and then focusing a targeted assault on Wild's back and neck. After that, the numbers game came into play with each member of the M.O.B. taking turns choking Wild while Blanchard distracted the ref. Blanchard continued the abuse to Wild's back and neck, but Wild surprised with a spinning back elbow taking both men down for a ref's count of 8. Wild was back in control but the M.O.B. again used their numbers for an advantage. Jimmy Blaze seeing this came out to ringside (careful to maintain his court ordered 15 feet away from Blanchard, served to him by lawyer Robert Sabre III fresh from passing the bar exams, following Blaze "attacking" Blanchard while the M.O.B. was serving a suspension from competition and sitting at ringside as "paying fans") and tossed his kendo stick to Wild. But the throw was miscalculated and Blanchard grabbed the weapon instead, swinging at Wild. Wild however saw it coming and ducked out of the way before countering with a russian leg sweep using the kendo stick for leverage and added force going for the pinfall as the ref turned back to face the in ring action, counting the 3 and giving Wild the victory to heavy protestation from the M.O.B.
Nick H. came out to the ring next to an enthusiastic "skinny guy" chant from the crowd. Joey Cece came out second and Nick told the "Pitbull" that since the match wasn't scheduled for the 12 min time limit that Tony Scarpone had demanded, Nick had given Scarpone the night off, instead offering an open spot to anyone who wanted to prove themselves against Cece. The M.O.B. returned to the ring and Justin James took the mic and accepted the challenge as part of the young blood in the roster. Cece overpowered James from the tie up a few times, launching him across the ring, followed by wrestling him down to the mat and slapping him about the back of the head, taunting the younger smaller opponent. James offered Cece a test of strength, which Cece won, but James countered into a firemans, then with both men back on their feet James charged Cece standing in the center of the ring, but being brickwalled by the POWW strongman. Cece landed some clubbing blows to the back of James, followed by a huge slam, going for the pinfall, but breaking it up because he didn't feel he'd unleashed enough punishment to the M.O.B. mouthpiece. After a couple suplexes by Cece, James turned the tide with a belly to belly overhead after some distraction from the M.O.B. members at ringside. Opening the same bag of tricks they'd used against Wild in the last match, the M.O.B. took turns distracting the ref and choking Cece against the ropes. Cece nailed a spear and looked as though he'd be picking up the win, but with a little more distraction Black Iron hanged Cece on the ropes allowing James the pinfall.
The battles between Ruff Crossing and X-Con have been examples of violent rage and mutual hatred, and it's all lead to this- a handcuffs on a pole match, not ending until one man managed to lock up the other, no pinfalls, no submissions, no mercy until one man has been effectively subdued by the other. Crossing started in full control with Nikki cheering him on from ringside with a back elbow off the ropes, followed by a powerful slam that sent Con to the outside to confer with his manager James Staublein. Crossing came flying over the ropes to land on Con on the outside. Con managed to get back up and follow Crossing back into the ring, retaliating with a clothesline that returned Crossing to the outside, then putting Crossing hard into the ring post back first. With Crossing down, Con began to climb the turnbuckle to grab the cuffs, but Con's well documented fear of heights kept him hesitant and allowed Crossing to catch up with him. Con crotched Crossing on the ropes, then laying in with an elbow drop and covering Crossing for the pin when the ref reminded Con that there were no pinfalls. Con again went for the cuffs, but Crossing caught him and drop kicked him to the floor. Crossing then went for the cuffs, but Con hanged him on the top rope. Both men back up on their feet in the ring and Crossing went for the pump handle driver, but Con countered. Con grabbed the cuffs and began to cuff Crossing, managing to lock up his left wrist before Crossing managed a back kick into Con's nether region and this time nailing the pump handle driver. Crossing got security to unlock the cuff, and then using the cuffs, nailed Con in the head with a big right hook which left Con clinging to the ropes, and allowed Crossing to lock the big man up to the ropes for a victory. Crossing then grabbed up Nikki's bullwhip and began choking Con. Nikki appeared to be concerned about the post match abuse, which left Crossing with a stern look on his face as he pulled her back to the dressing room with him.
The next match would decide who will receive a Tag Title shot, as the winner of the Royal gets to pick the partner of their choice to take a shot at the belts later this month.
Trevor Blanchard was the first man out, followed by Chris Cairo. Cairo taunted Blanchard ducking numerous clotheslines, prompting Blanchard to charge Cairo who ducked and pulled down the top rope allowing Blanchard to send himself over the top rope for an elimination. After Blanchard had left for the locker room, Jimmy Blaze came out as the 3rd man in the match, charging at Cairo, who sidestepped Blaze and left him hanging on the middle rope, setting him up for the "312" (619). Cairo continued to take it to Blaze until Dehok came out as the 4th entrant. Dehok still fuming from his loss earlier in the night quickly eliminated Cairo, before being eliminated himself by Blaze. Mikey Wild sprinted full speed to the ring as the 5th man in, and he was launched just as quickly out as Blaze played matador to Wild's charging bull, prompting Wild to leave with a bemused smirk on his face to the delight of the fans. X-Con came out 6th and unleashed his frustrations on Blaze until Ruff Crossing hit the ring as the 7th man in, Crossing continued his night of dominance over Con eliminating him before turning his attentions to Blaze. The two men have been back and forth lately beginning with a feud over the attentions of former Outta Control valet and current Crossing squeeze Nikki, but boiling over into something a little less clear and a little more personal. A shoving match ensued until Joey Cece came out 8th and tried to make peace between the two. Crossing took exception to Cece's stepping in the middle which prompted Cece to hit a double leg take down, opening both members of Outta Control to double team Crossing, eliminating him with a tandem catapult/back drop. Black Iron came out as the 9th man in the royal with the rest of the M.O.B. in tow, which a returning Blanchard informed everyone, meant that Blaze would have to leave the ring, thereby eliminating himself. Disappointed, Blaze complied, leaving Cece alone in the ring to face off against the pack of jackals. As the M.O.B. circled the ring, Cece decked Justin James and Blanchard, scared Jade into diving away from the action, but with the distraction Black Iron entered the ring and attacked. The two men went back and forth with Cece going over the top rope, but skinning the cat to stay alive. However his return into the ring put him directly into Iron's back cracker. Iron went to the middle rope for a dead leg drop. Iron fired Cece at the ropes where James waiting had pulled the top rope down, but Cece managed to hit the breaks, and as Iron charged him from behind, Cece saw him coming and threw him over the top rope to pick up the Tag Title shot for himself and a partner of his choosing.
After that excitement, there was only one thing left to due, crank it up even further with the main event, the Crowning of the Champ, a match which would see every title defended all at the same time, with which ever man picked up the pinfall, also picking up the title of whoever laid down for the 1-2-3. King of POWW Matt Mayhem was the first one out, followed by Regional Champ Kanoa with Melanie Cruise. 1/2 of the Tag Team Champs Hardcore Craig was next, followed by the POWW World Champ Eric Freedom with Sandra D. Craig took the mic and made the announcement the fans, and the wrestlers, had all been waiting for- his partner would be... Jimmy Blaze!
Freedom took the mic and informed everyone in the ring that they were below him, not on his level. As the World Champ he shouldn't be anywhere near the ring with any of them. He also announced that while Craig picked his partner for the night, Freedom too, had a partner and an announcement to make. He revealed the identity of his getaway driver, Highlander Andrew MacLeod who joined him and Sandra D at ringside. Following Freedom's belittling of his challengers, all 4 men took it to the "Hardcore Hippy", before all hell broke loose. Freedom threw Mayhem off the top turnbuckle onto Blaze and Kanoa who were battling out at ringside. Craig and Freedom then went toe to toe until Mayhem came back in going after Craig, who retaliated with a series of chops. Blaze and Kanoa continued on the outside and Craig returned his attentions to Freedom. Sandra D then attacked Craig, Cruise took it to Blaze, and MacLeod beat on Mayhem. After a little dusting off, all 5 Champions returned to the ring, with a chain of sleeper holds, which turned into a chain of jaw breakers. Kanoa came out on top of things going to the top rope, but Mayhem cut him off, Blaze and Craig came over to set the two men up for a joint superplex, and were caught up by Freedom who set Blaze and Craig up for a duel powerbomb. All 5 men hit the ring hard. Recovering one by one, Mayhem went for a submission leg lock before being caught by Blaze in the Flatliner, Kanoa then nailed Blaze with the Lei'd to Waste, Freedom hit Kanoa with the Very Bad Things, and Craig lifted Freedom up on to his shoulders, but before he could capitalize, MacLeod nailed Craig with Freedom's night stick. Freedom covered Craig, while at the same time a recovering Kanoa pinned Mayhem as the ref made the count. The final verdict? 2 Title Changes! Regional Champion- King Kanoa, and new Tag Team Champion- World Champ Eric Freedom!
What this meant now, is that Eric Freedom would be teamed with Jimmy Blaze (now POWW's first 4 time Tag champ) as Tag Team Champions. While the two are no strangers to being tag partners, neither man seemed thrilled at the prospect of having to be forced to team together now. Another man who was less than thrilled, was Joey Cece. Cece had won the opportunity to face the Tag Champs earlier that night with a partner of his choice, and of course the obvious choice would've been his partner in Outta Control, Blaze. But with Blaze now 1/2 of the Tag Champs (which Cece insinuated he really didn't earn this time around) Cece would have to pick someone else as his partner- and his choice? The recently M.I.A. 3rd man in Outta Control, and hated adversary of Eric Freedom Terry Allen!
Tensions ran high as all the men faced off to end the night.
How will Mayhem recover from the loss of his throne, and what will King Kanoa set his sights on now with both a belt and a crown in his possession?
How will Blaze and Freedom be able to co-exist with their Tag Titles to defend?
And finally what state will Terry Allen be in when he returns to team with Joey Cece to face off against one of his best friends and one of his worst enemies at the same time?
There's only one way to find out...
