POWW fans, if you weren't in Oswego last night, you missed out. Without question, what a night!
Things kicked off with Dehok coming out the the ring, grabbing a copy of the latest issue of POWW Magazine featuring Scott Spade on the cover, and ripping it apart- throwing the pieces into the crowd (he hasn't paid me yet for the issue, but... I'm not really feeling inclined to ask) and waiting for Spade to enter.
As Spade's music hit and Dehok stood ready in front of the entrance, Spade ducked in from a side entrance in the building and attacked Dehok, choking him mercilessly with his chain. From there things escalated with each man getting blows in outside the ring as Head Ref Bob "Pee Wee" Parrella tried desperately to draw the two into the ring so the match could start.
Finally the two men entered and from there it was back and forth until Dehok made one big miscalculation, while the ref looked away, he hung Spade's chains on the turnbuckle and as he tried to sling Spade into the chain, Spade reversed and then nailed the Ace Crusher for the pin.
After the match, Spade wrapped the chain around Dehok's neck and threw him over the top rope and tried to strangle the life out of his evil former partner with the chain acting as a noose. Dehok managed to escape, but the message was made clear- Spade came out not only victorious, but dominant on this night.
The next match saw Hardcore Craig looking for revenge against Eric Freedom for the loss of his Tag Title in Woodstock, by taking out Freedom's protege Andrew MacLeod. Craig put on a clinic, battering MacLeod from one end of the ring to the other, but cost himself some momentum in the match by giving too much attention to Freedom who was at ringside. MacLeod lost control when Craig caught him in the corner with an Alabama Slam. A TKO looked like it would put MacLeod away, but Freedom distracted the ref and tossed MacLeod his night stick. Jimmy Blaze came out to pull Freedom away from the action and Craig rolled MacLeod up with a sunset variant from the corner to pick up the win, and a small measure of retribution.
Master J came out for a new edition of The Orange Room with his guests- the M.O.B. Justin James, Trevor Blanchard, and Black Iron. James informed the world that since Brandon Bishop left the group, and Jimmy Blaze turned down his offer to join the group, a spot still remained open in the group, and he knew just who to offer it to. Calling Ruff Crossing down to the ring, the bad guys in black offered an M.O.B. t-shirt to Crossing who for a moment looked as if he was going to put it on, but he then tossed it away and told the group that he would never join them, and in fact, would face any one of them right then and there.
Trevor Blanchard accepted the challenge, but the whole M.O.B. circled the ring. Crossing managed to keep things evenly matched despite the overwhelming numbers against him for a while, but the M.O.B. definitely took advantage of every opening to use the numbers game in their favor. A Pump Handle Slam later though, and Crossing scored the pinfall. The M.O.B. swarmed the ring and abused the man who turned them down until Scott Spade came out to the ring and chased them off. Offering his hand to Crossing, Spade hoped to continue to form positive alliances since his stepping away from his former evil ways, but Crossing staying true to usual form instead walked away, leaving Spade standing alone.
The 4th match of the night was the highly anticipated Tag Title match that would also see the return of Terry Allen since his wife Sandra D turned on him last month to side with Eric Freedom.
Freedom and Jimmy Blaze came away from Crowning of the Champ as Tag Champions despite their mutual hatred for each other, and Joey Cece came out of the night with a shot at the Tag Titles with a partner of his choice after winning a royal that same night. With Blaze already involved as 1/2 of the Tag Champs, Cece instead turned to the 3rd member of Outta Control Terry Allen to be his partner.
Freedom and Blaze seemed to work together one moment, and be vicious enemies the next, slapping each other in the face for tags, but also hitting tandem moves with the fluidity of days past when they used to be tag partners by choice.
Cece and Allen were a more cohesive unit, and seemed to have the match won until a fisherman's suplex by Allen on Freedom also took out the ref, leaving Freedom open to knock out not just Allen and Cece with his night stick, but also partner Jimmy Blaze, busting Cece and Blaze wide open with the assault. Freedom put Allen down with Very Bad Things, and Sandra D slid into the ring to count the 1-2-3 unofficially, and the two celebrated, but as Freedom turned his back on Sandra, she then nailed him with the night stick and Allen put him away as the ref woke up giving us new Tag Champs in Terry Allen and Joey Cece. Blaze looked torn between the loss of the belts and the desire to celebrate with his friends, and in the end with a brief congratulations, left the ring as Cece, Allen, and Sandra stood in the ring unified and victorious.
Mikey Wild challenged King Kanoa for his Regional Title in the second to last match of the night, and the action in this one was fast paced and high flying with a style that few others in wrestling can even think to attempt. An opening flurry of moves by Wild looked like it would provide a longshot victory and Title change, but Melanie Cruise put Kanoa's foot on the rope to break the count. Kanoa took control with a Rock Bottom out of the corner, and an inverted behind the back Pedigree variation, pummeling Wild with pointed elbows straight into Wild's temple, followed by attempting to make Wild submit. The two traded more moves before Wild finally squeezed Kanoa in the Crippler Crossface, but Cruise jumped up on the apron, causing the ref to turn away from the action and admonish the brutal beauty, leaving Kanoa's tapping out, missed by the official. As Wild went to alert the ref to what had happened Kanoa got to his feet and scored with the Lei'd to Waste for the pin. Addressing the crowd Kanoa told the fans that as he was now the King of POWW, Melanie Cruise would now be addressed as the Queen. The crowd then responded with a "Queen Skank" chant that sent the two frustrated back to the locker room.
The final match of the night was a POWW Royal the would earn the winner a shot at the POWW World Title on Sept. 6th.
Trevor Blanchard and Scott Spade started things off in the ring with Blanchard in control. Black Iron was the 3rd entrant, followed by Ruff Crossing to even the odds. Andrew MacLeod was out next, followed by Mikey Wild, Hardcore Craig, and X-Con. X-Con rather than enter the ring, went instead to the merch table to read a POWW Magazine (I swear these aren't all just cheap plugs) until ref Pee Wee Parrella told him he had to get into the ring. Chris Cairo came out next. X-Con eliminated Hardcore Craig as Kanoa entered the royal. Ruff Crossing and Scott Spade eliminated Andrew MacLeod, Spade then eliminated Trevor Blanchard, followed by X-Con eliminating Spade. Ruff Crossing eliminated Black Iron, X-Con eliminated Mikey Wild as Terry Allen came out, followed by Dehok. X-Con eliminated Ruff Crossing, and after the two men stared each other down for a moment- Dehok reached down into his tights and pulled out an orange head wrap in the same style that X-Con wears and putting it on, the two teamed up against the other men in the ring. Joey Cece and Jimmy Blaze were the next two men out, and Cece joined his parter Terry Allen as the two faced off against X-Con and Dehok, eliminating X-Con. Dehok in turn eliminated Allen, and Kanoa helped out by eliminating Joey Cece. Chris Cairo eliminated Dehok leaving just 3 men left standing in the ring. As Cairo turned his attention back in to the ring Kanoa caught him with the Lei'd to Waste leaving him laying incapacitated. Jimmy Blaze then eliminated Kanoa, but Kanoa reached up and grabbed Blaze's hair to pull him to the outside as well, leaving Cairo the only one in the ring, and the winner of the royal.
Freedom came into the ring and told Cairo that he gets his shot on the 9th, but he only gets one, so he'd better win, or Very Bad Things would happen to him. Cairo tells Freedom that he's beaten him before, and he'll do it again. Turning his back to Freedom to celebrate his victory with the fans, Freedom turned him around nailing him with the V.B.T. and leaving him sprawled out in the ring to end the show.
When POWW heads into Fox Lake on the 6th you can bet it'll be one to see, with the World Title on the line, new Tag Champs, and the Road to WrestleRage well underway...
I'll see you all there!
