To kick off the show Joey Eastman came out to interview Jimmy Blaze. The two men talked about WrestleRage and the match between the M.O.B. and Blaze's crusaders, with the stipulation that should the M.O.B. lose- they would have to disband. Well, the match was originally scheduled to be a 4 on 4 with Justin James, Trevor Blanchard, Black Iron, and Tommy Capone facing off against Ruff Crossing, Scott Spade, DJ Donny Dynamite, and a 4th man to be named. Well, Blaze decided to make the match even more epic, turning it into a 5 on 5 with the M.O.B.'s attorney Robert Sabre III joining their team, and for the 4th and 5th members of the other team- Hardcore Craig and a returning Forsaken! And now, should the M.O.B. lose, they don't have to disband, they're simply banned from POWW altogether! With new odds against them, will we see the M.O.B. in 2009?
Only one way to find out- be at WrestleRage!
After that it was the Tag Title contest between Champions Outta Control- Joey Cece and Terry Allen, Wild Mayhem- Mikey Wild and Matt Mayhem, and the sInmates- X-Con and Dehok.
All 6 men took the fight to each other in an amazing contest that saw Wild dive out of the ring onto the sInmates and Cece on the floor, followed by Mayhem summersault diving from the apron, and then Allen launching himself from the top rope on to the other 5 men. The match continued all the way through the time limit resulting in no winner and OC retaining the belts.
Nick H came out to the ring to announce that he has the next contenders for the Tag Belts in his stable- a reuniting Austin Roberts and Balthazar, and they want a Title shot at Rage. The other teams in the ring all expressed that they still wanted their shot at the belt. Finally Jimmy Blaze came out and said that at Rage there will be a tag team gauntlet match with Champions OC, Wild Mayhem, the sInmates, and Nick H's team all competing for the Tag Titles.
The 2nd match was the eagerly anticipated contest between Egotistico Fantastico and the Regional Champ King Kanoa. The crowd loved the flamboyant masked man who matched POWW's "Flyin' Hawaiian" move for move, and it seemed as though neither man had the upper hand for long before the other would turn it around. In the end though Kanoa turned Ego inside out with a vicious clothesline and put him away with the Lei'd to Waste for the pinfall. After this match I know I'm not alone in hoping to see Ego in the POWW ring again soon.
Up next was Justin James facing off against Sara Del Rey, assuming James's shoulder was healed enough to wrestle- if he chose to forfeit the match, he would be forced to wear a dress when he wrestled. James tried to charm and bribe his way out of the match offering Del Rey a bouquet of flowers for Sweetest Day, Del Rey bashed James in the head with the flowers while the ref wasn't looking and the match was under way. Del Rey put James to the mat numerous times, and in the end James bailed out of the ring and chose to lose by countout.
Another highly anticipated match was the women's tag match featuring 3 of the women of Shimmer and Melanie Cruise. Cruise teamed up with Cat Power to take on Jennifer Blake and Danyah. Cat Power and Cruise managed to isolate Blake for a decent portion of the match, one distracting the ref while the other would attack, and using a series of tandem moves to keep the pressure on. Blake finally made the tag to Danyah who cleaned house followed by Blake laying in a vicious assault in the corner on Cat Power, and allowing Danyah to roll up Cruise for the pin.
In a partial preview of Rage M.O.B. members Trevor Blanchard and Black Iron w/ Justin James and Jade took on Ruff Crossing and Scott Spade w/ Nikki. Spade came to the ring with a folder of pictures showing RC sitting down at an outdoor cafe with Blanchard and James, and confronted his partner about them. RC crumpled the pictures and threw them away saying it was nothing and Spade should forget about them. The end of the match saw RC putting Iron up for the Pump Handle Driver, inadvertantly knocking Spade to the mat which Blanchard took advantage of by nailing Spade with a DDT and rolling him up for the pin as Spade and Blanchard were the legal men. After the match Spade and RC got in each other's face which brought out DJ Donny Dynamite from the sound booth to tell the 2 men he'd be teaming with at Rage to let it go and shake hands. Spade relented and offered his hand which RC took, and the three men headed backstage united.
The World Title contest between Champion Eric Freedom and Chris Cairo. Freedom's Flock must've been under represented in Woodstock as the majority of the crowd launched into a "Freedom Sucks!" chant as the Champion prepared to come to the ring. Early in the match Cairo nailed the 312, which Freedom answered with a superplex. On a second superplex attempt Cairo countered into a sunset powerbomb leaving both men down. Cairo looked like he might have it won when he nailed the Bum Rush, but the ref was knocked out, leaving Freedom open to dig his nightstick out of his jacket and nail Cairo with it, waking the ref and picking up the pin to retain.
Jimmy Blaze came out to announce the main event for WrestleRage which will see Freedom once again defending against Cairo, but this time it would be in a first ever in pro-wrestling Treasure Chest match. The rules are simple- there will be a pole on each of the 4 ring posts, and hung from each pole will be a key, the keys will each open one of the 4 padlocks on a chest that would be on a platform over near the announcer's stage. Inside the chest will be the World Title. Of course, to get the keys and make it over to unlock the chest, the wrestlers will have to go through the crowd who will all be bringing weapons for the two men to use each other- that's right, it's fans bring the weapons in the Treasure Chest World Title match at Rage!
The last match of the night was the Bunkhouse Battle Royal, and Eric Freedom was kept in the ring after his World Title defense to be the first man in the match- the second man out? Terry Allen who still has an unsettled score with the Hardcore Hippy. As the match was underway the violence and brutality was unmatched, seeing ladders, barrbed wire boards and baseball bats, road signs, hockey sticks, chains and various other weapons being utilized and destroyed bloodying a handful of the roster. Jimmy Blaze was announced roughly midway through the match, but Trevor Blanchard was still in the ring, and Blaze was not allowed to come within 15 feet of the M.O.B. member, Blaze said that was no problem as he had a weapon that would be able to strike from 15 feet away, and that weapon was Sara Del Rey! Del Rey stormed the ring and took it to Blanchard as well as other members of the roster until there were only 2 left standing, Del Rey and Eric Freedom who lasted through from the beginning to the very end. The two went back and forth until Freedom put Del Rey to the mat and stood on her throat for a vicious choke, but Del Rey managed to get her hands up under Freedom's feet and power him up off of her throat and pressed him up over the top rope, eliminating Freedom and leaving Sara Del Rey as the winner of the 2nd annual Bunkhouse Battle Royal.
It was an amazing night of wrestling in Woodstock, once again proving why POWW is the hottest ticket for in ring action in the midwest and everything is working towards the biggest show of the year- WrestleRage only a few weeks away. Don't miss a moment, we'll see you at the shows!
