Recap Of December 6th...

Thanks again to everyone that helped make the show what it was, and it was fantastic!

The show started off with 2 of the radio D.J.'s from "Extra 99.1" welcoming us to Rantoul, and they threw some radio swag into the crowd. Next we are introduced to one of the Lincoln's Challenge cadets, who then sang the National Anthem, and he actually made it all the way through, without Issan Hadeev interupting....AMAZING! Then we get down the NBWA action!!!! "The Lovely Miss Amanda" makes her to the ring, much to the excitement of the 700+ fans that were packed into the gymnasium.

The first of the 11 matches is set to get under way, and it features the team of "Your Role Model" Jeff Harris, and former WWE Tag Team Champion, "The Damaja" Danny Bashem, who are accompanied to the ring by Jimmy Falcon. Their opponents for the afternoon are Cecil Cerveza, and former WWE, WCW, ECW wrestler, Tracy Smothers. The match ended when Danny Bashem pinned Cecil Cerveza with a power bomb.

The second match of the afternoon was also a tag team match between "Hero of the Day" Danny McKay and Moon Dog Cujo, who were also accompanied to the ring by Jimmy Falcon. Their opponents were Joey Grunge, who is the brother of late ECW, WCW, and WWE star Johnny Grunge, and his partner, who was making his first in-ring appearance in Rantoul since last November when he broke his neck, "Dangerous" Drew Thomas. In the closing moments of the match Moon Dog Cujo, and Joey Grunge were fighting on the outside of the ring, and the referee Mr. Mitch was trying to get them back to their corners when Jimmy Falcon tossed the huge bone that Moon Dog had brought to the ring into Danny McKay, who then used the bone to hit Drew square in the head. When Mithc had turned around Falcon had the bone on the outside of the ring and McKay went for the cover, 1..2..3.

The next match was one of the most anticipated matches of the year, being teased throughout the summer months in the NBWA and was going to be the culmination of a fued that has been building since June, and it was all going to come to a head in a Ladder Match! The match was between the 2007 Alberta J. Murray Memorial tournament winner, 1 Jason Vendetta and the 2008 A.J.M. Tournament winner Da Cobra, with special guest referee, the 2006 A. J. M. Tournament winner, Angelo Santelli! The match was to determine who was going to be the holder of the 2008 Tournamnet trophy, which guarentee's the holder of the trophy a shot at ANY NBWA championsip at any time. This was a brutal match and many are already saying that it is a 2009 match of the year candidate!
Durring the match Jason Vendetta used the very same move, "The Detanator" that was used to break Drew Thomas's neck one year ago in the very same buliding, and has since been banned from the NBWA. The entire crowd seemed to let out a gasp when Vendetta hit the flipping piledriver, and even though special referee Angelo tried to prevent Vendetta from hitting the move, he didn't react in time. With Angelo checking on DaCobra, Vendetta set up the ladder and began the assent to claim the trophy...that is untill Angelo took matters into his own hands and climbed the ladder after Vendetta, grabbed ahold of him, and delivered a "Sky High" (spinebuster) ,from 10 feet in the air! To finish the match it came down to who could withstand the most punnishment, the two men were perched atop the ladder with the trophy dangling within arms reach as they exchanged ,punches. In the end DaCobra was able to hang on longer than Vendetta was, DaCobra knocked Vendetta off the ladder, and the trophy was his for the taking!

The fourth match of the afternoon featured Lincoln's Challenges own," The Enforcer" Sgt. Bobby Jones taking on a former NBWA Heavyweight Champion, Aaron Mathews, in a Bootcamp match. As Sgt. Jones made his way to the ring the 300+ LCA cadets in attendance errupted at the sight of their drill instructor pushing a shopping cart full of weapons to the ring. In the end, the LCA Cadets had gotten what they had hoped for, a win for Sgt. Jones, when Aaron Mathews went to his his finishing manuver, a shooting star press, but missed Sgt. Jones, and came crashing down abdomen first into a steel trash can. Jones then went for the cover and go the 3 count!

The next match of what had now become early evening was for the NBWA No-Limits Title and featured the current champion, "Simply Divosi" taking on former AWA Tag Team Champion, former WWF, and ECW star Pat Tanaka! Tanaka was well recieved by the NBWA crowd, but that didnt last for long. Not far into the match Tanaka had used several illegal choke holds on Divosi, and after repeated warnings from NBWA referee Chad Tally to get off Divosi's neck, Tally took matters into his own hands and shoved the ring legend, whick lead to Tanaka to shove Tally right back. Not wanting the match to end on that note, Tally let the incident slide, and allowed the match to continue. In the end though The No-Limits champ was victorious by disqualification anyway. Divosi has thrown a chair into the ring, and while referee Tally was disposing of the chair, Divosi had brought a second chair into the ring and pulled an "Eddie Guerrero"...That is he smacked the steel chair onto the mat, then tossed the chair to his opponent, and then fell flat on the mat holding his head. When the referee turned around, he saw Tanaka holding the chair and Divosi laid out on the mat, and DQ'd the challenger.

The sixth match of the early evening, featured "The Greatest Intercontinental Champion of All Time", The Honk Tonk Man vs former NBWA Heavyweight Champion , Eric Ruffington. Before the match began the Honky Tonk Man, did what I remember watching his do many years ago on TV, and that was to sing "his song" and the crowd loved every minute of it! Then EricRuffington came to the ring, and attempted to out do the WWF legend, and sing a song of his own...."Larger Than Life" by The Backstreet Boys ( Thanks Jen, because I had no clue). It's a good thing Ruffington is a pretty good wrestler, because I don't think singing is in his future... But anyway, When the match began the HTM, got the crowd to chant along "Break his Neck" meaning that HTM was going to be looking to finish Ruffinton off with the same finishing manuver he has been using since I was a kid watching WWF on Saturday mornings, the "Shake, Rattle, and Roll" (neckbreaker). Thats exactly what he did to finish the match. Even at the age of 55, The Honky Tonk man still has what it takes to get the job done in the ring, and entertain the fans.

Following the match, the NBWA went to intermission while HTM signed autographs, and took photos in the ring with fans, while all the other WWE/WWF alumni signed for the fans and took pictures as well.

After the intermission the show returned with a special Intergender match, presented by FWL ( Finset Wrestling League) owner/promoter Jimmy Falcon. The match pitted Lucious vs Mickey Dahmer. In the end, Lucious was able to pull out an upset victory over the much stronger and larger Dahmer.

The 8th match of the evening was a Fatal 4 Way match for the NBWA Tag team Titles and featured the current champions, The Worlds Greatest Masked Team ( Cheapshot & Cyclone) vs "Encore" ( Pit Bull & D'Andre King) vs "The Killer Bee's" ( Josh Powers & Jonathon Napier) vs the team of Wild Bill & Nicky "The Weasel" Mankotti, who were accompanied to the ring by Brandi Harris. This match was mayhem! with 8 wrestler in one match trying to earn the Tag Team titles there was action all over the place, inside and outside of the ring, and the closing moments of the match were even more chaotic when Aaron mathews and Jeff Harris made their way to the ring and interjected themselves in the action. Mathews attacked WildBill from behind, and then left the ring before the referee could see, and Cyclone followed with a cover on Bill getting the 3 count.

The next match of the evening was "Mr. Excitement" Brandon Keith vs Nick Cuttler. "Mr. Excitement" , a Rantoul native made short work of Nick Cuttler scoring an early pinfall victory.

The 10th match of the evening was the big "Title vs Title" match pitting the NBWA Heavyweight Champion, "Bloody" Harker Dirge vs The Heritage Wrestling Coalition Champion, "Lord of the Ring" Issan Hadeev. This match, saw the two champions fighting inside the ring, outside the ring, in the crowd, up in the bleachers, and everywhere in between. Harker and Issan had been fueding for months now, and today they were taking months of frustrations out on eachother. At the end of last months show in Danville Harker had vowed to "make him bleed" and thats just what he did, Harker bit into Hadeev's forehead, not once, but twice, and Issan was bleeding from both sides of his head, bleeding all over Harker, and all over the mat. Durring the match referee Carley Rae was inadvertantly knocked out by Harker Dirge, who was shoved into Carley by Issan. Issan took this oppertinity to go fishing under the ring and found a table! Issan set the table up in the ring, and laid Harker across the table, and made his way to the top rope. All this took way too long, because right as Issan was about to take flight harker rolled off the table, and grabbed ahold of Issan and slammed him into the table. Then Harker locked Issan into "The Dirt Nap", but referee Carely Rae was still out cold next to the ring, and who should appear from the back....The Honky Tonk Man!!! The Honky Tonk Man counted to 3, even though Issan's shoulders were clearly not on the mat. It was announced that "Bloody" Harker Dirge was the winner any way!

Following the match, the announcement was made by Miss Amanda that due to unfortunate timing, Rosey, "The Super Hero in Training" had come down with a terrible case of the flu, and that is why he was unable to compete in his match against "Mr. Excitement" Brandon Keith, but in an effort to make good with all the fans he would be signing FREE photo's after the show. Just as Miss Amanda was finishing up...who should appear...Rosey!!! He stormed to the ring, and attacked what was left of Issan Hadeev, and power bombed him through the unbroken table that had been used in the match with Harker Dirge. Rosey then went on to appoligize to all the fans for not being able to compete, and said that he would be signing free photos after the show.

Knowing Issan Hadeev, he is not going to let this go, and I'm sure we will hear more on this controversial title change in the weeks to come....

Finally, the main event of the evening, featuring WWF LEGEND....Jake "The Snake" Roberts vs "The Apex of Appeal" Blake Steel. In the beginning of the match is looked as though Jake was just toying around with Blake, but it didn't last for too long, when all was said and done, Jake made quick work of the challenger hitting the short arm clothsline, and the move he himself invented, the DDT!

Following the match, the crowd erupted with chants of "Thank You Jake", Jake said that he appreciates the support from the fans, and that the fans are the reason jake is still in the wrestling business today.
