Results - My head is still clearing up from being press slammed over the top by Octane in the Gauntlet. All I was out there to do was get my stolen tie back from Mylan and break his jaw, so I don't know why Octane inserted himself.
Very, very good crowd last night - the Des Moines Social Club was packed! It was easily one of the most receptive and vocal crowds 3XW has ever had.
1. "The Unbreakable" Zach Thompson defeated the debuting Bailey Mannix w/ "Lovely" Leon Alexander with a sunset flip reversal in an excellent opening match. Mannix impressed many, many people and we hope to have him back again in the near future.
2. Brady A. Dezire beat "The Asian Sensation" Ricky Kwong with a superkick after using referee Travis Peterson as a distracting shield to block a Kwong attack. Dezire quickly pushed Peterson aside and nailed Kwong with the superkick.
3. "The Rockstar" Jimmy Rockwell, Maddog McDowell, and Tyler Cook defeated The Gentlemen's Club (Gage Octane and Mark Sterling w/ Todd Countryman) and "The Rebel" Jeremy Wyatt in a great six-man tag team match after Rockwell crucifixed Sterling for the pin. Before the match even began, Wyatt was doing his usual trash talking and security had to prevent a fan from getting a little too involved in the action. The end of match saw Cook and Wyatt brawling outside the ring and Octane inadvertantly nail Sterling who was holding Rockwell for a double team attack, which allowed Rockwell to pin Sterling.
4. Sexy and Smooth (Ryan Slade and A.J. Smooth) beat Brian Jacobs and the debuting Tommy "The Tank" Holcomb after Slade and Smooth used an awesome double-team Rocket Launcher setup - Smooth threw Slade like a missile from the top turnbuckle and Slade punched Tommy in the face. I believe Slade may have had brass knuckles on his punching hand. Jacobs has a fantastic dropkick and Tommy looked impressive in his debut.
5. Casanova defeated Aaron Masterson to successfully defend the 3XW Heavyweight title with a devastating powerbomb pin from the corner after Masterson took too long to begin a 10-punch sequence. Nova offered an open challenge to any wrestler not named Devin Carter. Before anyone could run from the back to accept the challenge, Masterson made his now famous entrance from the crowd.
6. The Gauntlet for the Gold - Devin Carter, the No. 1 entrant, became the No. 1 contender for the 3XW Heavyweight title. Carter is also the first man to enter first in the Gauntlet and win the match. The final four (or so we thought) saw it come down to Carter, Kraig Keesaman (No. 2), Gage Octane and Mark Sterling.
Casanova, who was watching the match at ringside, grabbed the mic and announced that if Sterling, Octane, or Keesaman eliminated Carter, he would give them $5,000 and a title shot regardless of the out come of the match. All three men threw Carter over the top, only for an exhausted Carter to show incredible athleticism by pulling himself back into the ring despite one foot touching the floor. Carter quickly eliminated Keesaman while The Gentlemen's Club, unaware of what was happening, we're arguing amongst themselves about who should win.
Sterling turned around, ran toward Carter and was low-bridge over the top, leaving it down to Carter and Octane. After some intense brawling and Todd Countryman trying to pull Carter out from outside the ring, both men found themselves near the ropes. Countryman, who turned out to be the last entrant, stripped down to his wrestling tights, ran into the ring and ran toward Carter, only for Octane to get thrown in his path and the collision eliminated Octane. Carter quickly disposed of Countryman to win the match.
As Carter celebrated his win, Casanova snuck into the ring and nailed Carter from behind with the belt, following up with a horrifically violent concharito - one chair under Carter's head while nailing his face with the other. Jimmy Rockwell ran to the ring to prevent further assault. Rockwell took the mic, said he's tired of Casanova continually sneak attacking and injuring Carter and challenge Casanova to a Heavyweight title match on June 26 at "Downtown Destruction." We don't know if Casanova has accepted his challenge yet.
Among the names from the past in the Gauntlet were Brian Ash, Bryce Benjamin, Derek Stone, Nacho O'Reilly, and Joey Marx.
Other Chicago-area wrestlers competing in the Gauntlet were Mason Conrad and Hayden Kent (1/2 of the Tokyo Twins under a different name.)
Excellent show that will be a must-have to add to your wrestling DVD collection!
