Detailed results:
A groundbreaking night of fantastic action saw a whopping three titles change hands as well as the crowning of the first 3XW King of Des Moines.
1. First Round King of Des Moines tournament match for the 3XW Cruiserweight championship - "The Rockstar" Jimmy Rockwell successfully defends his title by beating "The Canadian Sex Icon" Ryan Slade with a small package in a very competitive match. The crowd was really on Slade's case and were thrilled when Rockwell won.
2. First Round King of Des Moines tournament match for the 3XW Tag Team championship - The High Flyers (Zach Thompson and Mike Sydal) beat the Gentleman's Club (Gage Octane and Mark Sterling w/ Todd Countryman) to win the titles after Sydal rolled Sterling up for the win. A very heated matchup that featured all sorts of fast-paced action on the part of Thompson and Sydal and methodical technical wrestling and rulebreaking by the Gentleman's Club. The final minutes of the match saw Sydal earn a crazy close 2.9999 count nearfall on Sterling after a hurricarana - it was so close to a pin that referee Steve Biley couldn't stop the momentum of his hand coming down for the three, but after a dramatic pause, he rightly indicated that Sterling kicked out at two. This led to Octane bringing a chair in the ring while Countryman distracted Biley, only for Sterling of all people to stop Octane from using the chair. After a quick series of moves, Sydal managed to schoolboy Sterling and win the titles for his team. The crowd exploded for the High Flyers winning the titles! With the win, Sydal and Thompson also advanced to separate sides of the second round bracket of the tournament
Directly following the match, Sterling actually shook the hands of both Sydal and Thompson while Octane encouraged him to attack them. This lead to Octane and Sterling having a staredown and even begin shoving one another, only for Countryman to interven and plead "You're getting to let one loss break up the Gentleman's Club after almost two years?" Countryman managed to get his team back on the same page and then directed his anger toward referee Steve Biley. He told his men that "if you want to be angry at someone, take it out on him!" This lead to Sterling and Octane brutally assaulting Biley, who was beaten so badly that he could not officiate any other matches that night and is still recovering from his injuries.
3. First Round King of Des Moines tournament match - Fatal Four Way elimination match with two men advancing - A.J. Smooth and Tony Sly advanced to the second round after defeating Maddog McDowell and "The Right Price" Aaron Masterson. McDowell finished a series of moves on Masterson and eliminated him with a Rabies Shot, followed by A.J. Smooth quickly hitting a Codebreaker-type move and pinning McDowell in an upset.
4. 3XW Heavyweight title match - "The Rebel" Jeremy Wyatt defeated three-time champion "Delicious" Devin Carter to win the Heavyweight title for the first time, beating him fair-and-square by reversing a Tasty Treat into a Kansas Tumbleweed and earning the pin in the middle of the ring. For all the underhanded and awful things Wyatt has done in 3XW over the past year, he flat out earned his win tonight.
5. Second Round King of Des Moines tournament Triple Threat match - Casanova, who received a first-round bye courtesy of Commissioner Todd Countryman, defeated A.J. Smooth and Mike Sydal after putting Sydal to sleep with his dreaded Sleeperhold. It should be noted that Casanova and Sydal both debuted excellent new wrestling tights tonight.
6. Second Round King of Des Moines tournament Triple Threat match - Jimmy Rockwell beat "The Unbreakable" Zach Thompson and "Torturous" Tony Sly after pinning Sly following a very well-executed sitout gourdbuster (face first suplex). After the match, Thompson shook hands with Rockwell. An interesting result considering Rockwell beat Sly with the same move in July's Six Man Scramble match. Since his loss to Sly in November, Rockwell has now pinned Sly four times in recent months in a variety of matches.
7. 3XW Pure Wrestling title match - "The Viking Warrior" Kraig Keesaman defeated three-time champion Tyler Cook by crushing him with the Nordic Spike after Cook missed a corkscrew senton off the top rope. This is Keesaman's first title win. He has now been undefeated since August 2008.
8. Finals of the King of Des Moines tournament and a 3XW Cruiserweight title match - "The Rockwell" Jimmy Rockwell beat Casanova following an amazing flipping stunner off the top rope on a standing Casanova. With the victory, not only is Rockwell the first King of Des Moines but also guarantees he will be 3XW Cruiwerweight champion for 14 months. Casanova still holds the Cruiserweight title record, having held the title for 15 months before Rockwell won the title in July 2008. Will Rockwell be able to hold on to tie, much less break Casanova's seemingly unreachable record? The next two months are critical for Rockwell as Cruiserweight champion.
An awesome, awesome night of action that will be a must-buy DVD when it's released.
