Thank You to the 500+ fans who came out and rocked the Irish American Center for Chicago Style Wrestling's kickoff show!! I was at the show. I was in the balcony. I can say with absolute certainty that the "over 500+ fans for the show" number is dubious, at best. The Center's website says they can seat 658. The lower level was mostly full but the balcony was about half-empty. Maybe everybody else who bought tickets was at the bar, but I doubt it. I counted about 240 heads before the bell, so maybe close to 260-75. I won't argue 300 people. But 500 in the building? That's pushing it. I didn't count the CPD officers in the building, who were packing heat. Seriously. Sader was advertised but not there, and no explanation for his abscence. Show overall was fine, nothing earth-shattering. Lots of kids, with at least 2 John Cena shirts. The spotlight went off a few times because kids next to me in the balcony were knocking the plug out of the outlet. An accident. This was actually the first time I saw Ali live, and that guy has that "It" factor you can't teach. Definite star, who mocked the baseball team and threatened to raise gas prices. He tore it up with Boz, who was the most over guy here. Finish was a Boz superkick on Ali, who came off the top rope. MOTN. Rudo tried to give a farewell speech at the end of his match, but the crowd spent more effort booing Austin and Milo. What was with the Syndicate's head-bobbing music, anyway? 450 vs. Jaz was alright, with a couple good moves. 450 backed off a tie-up and said "I don't like black people." That got some heat, but not that much. Grappler didn't get much of a reaction for his gimmick. He won with his feet on the ropes. Mulligan came in with his Irish flag and a flask of some kind. Not as over as you would think. Intermission was a 9-piece band of kids setting up in the ring and playing three songs. The girl on the guitar did OK. The kid singing "Rock 'N Roll All Night"? Not so much. More thoughts later.
