Pro Wrestling Blitz's "Unfinished Business 2" was held Saturday January 2nd at the VFW in Joliet, IL, headlined by two former ECW World Heavyweight Champions going head to head in Steve Corino vs. Jerry Lynn.
Match 1: Tokyo Twins (w/Go-Go Okinowa) d. Sexy and Smooth
The Heroes of All of Asia Mi and Yu controlled the first few minutes of the opener by keeping "The Canadian Sex Icon" Ryan Slade in their corner. AJ Smooth unsuccessfully got involved when Yu bodyslammed Go-Go on top of him. Sexy & Smooth turned the match around when Yu had Smooth in a chinlock, but Slade broke it up with a running knee as the ref's attention was on Mi. Mi didn't do his partner any favors by trying to get in the ring, as AJ and Ryan kept switching out without tagging behind the ref's back. They did a good job of keeping Yu in their corner until the Twin was able to nail a defensive enzeguri and tag out. Mi cleaned house until Slade hit Yu with a DDT after all 4 were in the ring. Slade disgustingly pie faced Go-Go when she made her way back into the ring, to which Mi retaliated by hitting him with a top rope double ax handle using Okinowa's Hello Kitty head. Yu followed with a top rope ax handle of his own, then Go-Go came off the 2nd rope with a flying tackle! Surprise erupted among the Tokyos when Slade kicked out. During the confusion, Smooth brought in a steel chair. Mi wrestled it away from him, but when he wound up to destroy AJ, Slade grabbed the chair from behind so Mi had it stopped over his head. In a very clever but dangerous move by Mi, since he couldn't bring the chair forward to hit AJ, he brought it down over his own head so his neck was trapped in the chair. Mi began screaming at the ref to get him out, resulting in a disqualification victory for the Tokyo Twins at the 9:50 mark.
Match 2: American History Next d. Monster Ballad
"Metalhead" Steve Stone had a tough time with Tommy and Johnny Motley during the first couple minutes of the match until he went to eyes to allow him to get Hardcore Craig tagged in. Johnny came back by ducking a Steve Stone clothesline and hitting a couple dropkicks before tagging Tommy back in. Craig tagged back in, but Tommy was able to hit a twisting ace crusher out of the corner. AHN tried to regroup on the outside but Tommy back body dropped his brother over the top rope, crashing into Steve and Craig. Craig rolled back into the ring but was greeted with a top rope elbow from Tommy and a front flipping senton from Johnny for a 2-count. Tommy hit the ropes but Stone caught him with a knee, and although Tommy nailed Stone as a receipt, Hardcore floored him with a lariat. Craig held Tommy down in a headlock until he was able to escape using a jawbreaker and then make the tag to his brother. This tag seemed to really revive Monster Ballad as they out quicked AHN with dropkicks, a frankensteiner, a double Japanese armdrag and the Guitar Hero double elbow drop for 2. Johnny went for a wheelbarrow on Stone, but Hardcore cut him off and AHN nailed him with an elevated clothesline. With Johnny out of the picture, AHN flatted Tommy with an assisted powerbomb for the pinfall at 10:08.
Match 3: Hunter Matthews d. "Ice Daddy" Navy Blue
Navy Blue comes to Pro Wrestling Blitz with a great look and a lot of size and muscle. Hunter tried to show the big man up by slapping him across the face, but he tripped on the outside while trying to run away when he realized the slap wasn't a good idea. However, as Ice Daddy stepped over the top rope to get back into the ring, Matthews kicked the top rope, crotching Blue, then came off the 2nd tope with a back elbow smash to send a trapped Navy back to the floor. Hunter then followed up with an elbow drop from the apron to the floor. He controlled the match until he pulled his strap down while standing on the second rope, only to jump face first into Navy's boots when attempting the big fist drop. Blue got a close 2-count with an electric chair drop. The end came when Ice Daddy went for a charge in the corner, but the cagey Matthews dodged the blow and hooked his larger opponent with a school boy with his feet on the ropes for extra leverage for the 3-count in 7:58.
Match 4: Zach Thompson d. "The New Age Rebel" Tristian P.S. Hayes to retain the King of the Cruiserweights Championship.
This was a rare situation in Blitz where two villains went head to head. Zach didn't seem to take the match seriously at first, apparently too busy with mugging for a group of ladies in the front row. Hayes went to sneak up on him, but Thompson turned around just in time. As they were getting ready to start, the challenger took the belt to show the crowd, and was attacked from behind by the champ. An Irish whip reversal and a clothesline later, the veteran Hayes was in command. He got a 2 count with a moonsault, but when he went for a 2nd one, Zach rolled out of the way. Even though Tristian landed on his feet, he appeared to jar his right knee. The challenger got the champ back down, but missed a second rope back splash. Thompson capitalized with a super kick and the fisherman's Michinoku Driver for the pin at the 6:37 mark.
K.L. Snow interview with Brandon Blaze
K.L. Snow asked Brandon about the beating he laid on Tony Rican last show. Blaze had no excuses or remorse and was happy he did it. Since Tony wasn't there, Blaze challenged any heavyweight or cruiserweight in the back. Tony Rican then showed up on the video screen, channeling Bruno Sammartino saying even if the doctors don't clear his return, he will be there next show because he can always feed off the fans. Egotistico Fanstantico, the heavyweight who moves like a cruiserweight, then came to answer Brandon's challenge!
Match 5: Brandon Blaze d. Egotistico Fantastico
This was a fast-paced match until Brandon went for Ego's mask. Ego put that to a stop with an amazing display of athleticism when Brandon was sitting on the top rope and Ego leaped from the mat to hit a frankensteiner. After not knocking each other down with a series beefy clotheslines, Ego folded up Blaze with a powerbomb and probably would've had the win had Ashton Vuitton not pulled the ref out of the ring. With the referee distracted by Ashton, Blaze wrapped a chain around his fist, but missed the big haymaker. Ego went for a back suplex, but Brandon seized the second opportunity to clock his masked opponent with chain and get the pin in 10:50.
After the match, Vuitton wanted revenge for losing to Ego last show. He and Blaze teamed to wrap an extension cord around Ego's neck and hung him over the top rope. The Tokyo Twins came out to make the save before any permanent damage was done.
Match 6: "Pocket Rocket" Eric Marx d. "Waterboy" Mike Horning and Fusion in a 3-way match.
Before the match, Eric Marx took the mic and said he didn't come all the way from Morris, IL to lose to a wannabe luchadore or a hometown pretty boy. He added that his new year's resolution was to be a winner in Pro Wrestling Blitz.
The two fan favorites started by double teaming on the Pocket Rocket until they had to start going at it themselves. After Fusion hit a high back body drop on Horning, Marx Pearl Harbored him and took charge in the match. Since this was a 3-way match, several pinfalls were broken up by the third man. A nice series saw Waterboy have Fusion in a waistlock, Marx roundhouse kicked Fusion in the head, Mike hit a German suplex on Fusion for 2 because Eric broke it up with a top rope splash for 2. Fusion then nailed Marx with a DDT on the apron. Fusion got back in the ring and battled with Horning, who was sitting on the top turnbuckle. The hometown boy got the better of the exchange and hit a tornado DDT. Pocket Rocket came to just in time to shove Horning off and get the pinfall himself at 9:16.
Match 7: "Roughneck" Jay Ryan d. "Infamous" AM Vision
These former tag team partners now bitter enemies were going at it before the lights came back on after Vision's entrance. The action spilled out onto the floor as AM hit a suicide dive on point. Back in the ring, Vision attempted a second rope cross body block, but Jay caught him with a beautiful northern lights bomb. The Infamous one exploded later with the Infamy (corner splash into a DDT) for a 2-count. The Joliet native had the crowd behind him during a series of pinning German suplexes, chanting "one more time!," only AM released the final one, turning Ryan inside out. The Roughneck was able to hit a big towerhacker bomb for 2, but they both ended up back on the floor after an errant tackle. On the outside, Jay Ryan splattered Vision with a back body drop. Like Rocky and Apollo struggling to get to their feet, Jay stumbled under the bottom rope to get the countout victory at the 14:52 mark.
Afterward, Roughneck killed Vision with a hugh lariat. He grabbed a mic and claimed he just showed why Joliet belongs to him. After he left, Vision got a mic, saying the feud isn't over and it'll take more than a countout win to keep him away from his rival.
Main Event: Jerry Lynn d. "The King of Old School" / "Mr. Wrestling" Steve Corino
Corino looked very determined to get a win and balance his losing record again Lynn. Lynn almost won the match in the opening minute on a sunset flip out of the corner. As sort of a tribute to their backgrounds, Mr. Wrestling was the first to strike with a weapon, blasting Jerry over the head with a metal pizza pan. Lynn responded by working over Corino's right arm, bending it over the ropes and slamming it into the mat. Jerry got a 2-count on a top rope frankensteiner when The King of Old School took too much time yelling at some ladies in the front row. Shortly after that, the former world champions brought out the big guns, with Corino hitting a superkick and Lynn getting an inverted DDT after floating over a bodyslam attempt. After Steve kicked out of a crucifix backslide, everyone thought the match had ended on an O'Conner roll by Jerry, but the ref confirmed it was only a 2-count. Making their way back to their feet, the veterans traded blows until Corino whipped Jerry in, ducked his head for a back body drop, but Lynn caught him with a traditional backslide for the win in 12:02.
Shortly thereafter, Corino and Lynn had a stand off when Steve Stone and Hardcore Craig ran in to attack the victor. Mr. Wrestling started to walk away, apparently not wanting anything to do with the attack. Stone goaded Corino back in the ring to attack the man who just bested him while American History Next held him. The King of Old School looked like he was going to get some revenge but instead he blasted Steve Stone! Before the crowd knew it, Corino and Lynn were on the same side, fighting off Stone and Craig until AHN retreated, their plot foiled. Not realizing it at the time, Corino and Lynn back into each other and clenched their first when they realized who was behind them. Amidst chants of "ECW," "Thank You," "One More Time" and "Please Come Back," the Blitz crowd witnessed long time blood rivals shake hands in the middle of the ring.
