Diamond Jim's in East Dundee, IL played host to a great evening of CLPW action. Eight talented tag teams competed in an elimination tournament to crown new CLPW Tag Team Champions as the titles were vacated on April 24th. Beautiful weather provided a great atmosphere for this outdoor event. This was a night of upsets and surprises.
CLPW ring announcer Mike Vest along with three of the lovely ringside gals.......Lola, Crystal & Dallas made their way to ringside. Mr. Vest lead the crowd into the playing of our National Anthem. The crowd roared with excitement as Mike Vest announced the kick-off to the tournament.
**********************ROUND 1***********************
1. Jarod Priest and CLPW Light HeavyWeight Champion J.T. Simmons vs Victorious Secrets (Mason Conrad and Cameron Salem) (20 minute time limit for all 1st round matches).
Victorious Secrets, with their unusual ring-style, caught the CLPW veterans early on off their game. Jarod attempted to work over the crowd until the Billy and Chuck(Former WWE Champions) style head games of VS through off Priest. The newcomers of VS controlled the early portion until the CLPW veterans staged a comeback. Jarod Priest dumped Mason Conrad's head hard onto the canvas. Simmons made a blind tag to his partner and scored the winning pin. Priest gives his partner a dirty look as Simmons hollers, "We won! All that matters!"
Winners: Jarod Priest and J.T. Simmons
2. The Soul Touchaz(Acid Jazz & Willie"Da Bomb" Richardson) vs CLPW Pro-X Champion "Irish" Andy Anderson and Sean Mulligan
This was the most physical of the opening round matches. The Soul Touchaz may be new to CLPW but not new to the Chicago indy scene. They were the heavy favorites conducted by an opinion poll. Not a lot of high-flying moves was displayed but the Irishmen held their own. The first time pairing of the lads from Ireland might have lead to their downfall as a missed call by Sean Mulligan cost his team the match. He was hit by a vicious pounce by Richardson. Mulligan blamed the loss to too many whiskeys before the match.
Winners: The Soul Touchaz
3. The Marx Foundation(Bryce Benjamin and Joey Marx) vs The "450" Invasion ("Mr. 450" Hammett and "The Shinning Star" Billy Starr)
Both teams made their CLPW debut as they treated the crowd to one of the best matches of the night. The crowd was behind the "450" Invasion as chants of "450" and "Invasion" echoed throughout the outdoor beer garden of Diamond Jim's. Frequent tags and high-risk moves from both teams delighted the crowd. Joey Marx looked like a bird as he flew off the ropes only to miss Billy Starr. A belly-to-belly type suplex into a pinning combination gave the Invasion the chance to head to the next round.
Winner: The "450" Invasion
4. Jayson Kross and Texas Pete vs The Galactic Grappler and Marco Polo.
This match paired CLPW regulars against each other. The size and strength of Jayson Kross was too much for Double G as he was tossed around like a Star Wars figure. The team of Grappler and Polo did control the match for a while but their game plan was off at times. Their attention span wasn't always there. Double G and Polo received a close encounter when Texas Pete pinned Polo after all 4 men were duking it out in the ring. The referee was losing control at times.
Winners: Jayson Kross and Texas Pete
************************Round 2********************
1. Simmons/Priest vs The "450" Invasion (20 minute time limit for all 2nd round matches)
The CLPW veterans of Priest/Simmons were heavy favorites. The crowd once again backed The "450" Invasion. A failed double team attack by the veteran team lead to a series of kicks and moves similar to the Motor City Machine Guns of TNA fame by the Invasion. Billy would soon be no match for Priest's size and strength. A tough 2nd round for Starr as the punishment continued. An eventual tag brought "Mr. 450" Hammett back into swings nailing both members of Simmons/Priest. Simmons accidentally knocked out his own partner while attempting to hit Hammett with the CLPW Light HeavyWeight championship. A double-team move with Billy giving Simmons a face-drop while Hammett delivers a thunderous crescent kick spelled defeat to the CLPW veterans. Simmons walked out yelling at Priest that he had only one job to do.
Winners: The "450" Invasion
2. The Soul Touchaz vs Texas Pete and Jayson Kross
Ring Announcer Mike Vest was getting down to the Cars hit "Shake it Up". Pete was dancing for all and challenged the Soul Touchaz to a dance off. Willie accepted only to clothesline Pete from behind. "Da Bomb" showed he still had it with an impressive second row elbow drop onto Pete's chest. The veteran made a huge error in pulling Pete up before a three count. Pete wound up catching Acid Jazz in a classic form of the DDT before tagging to Kross. Jayson was able to get physical and match strength with Richardson. A slingshot move would put the Soul Touchaz on top of each other allowing Pete/Kross to pile on for the huge upset win. This was the biggest upset of the night.
Winners: Texas Pete and Jayson Kross
************************THE FINALS******************
1. The "450" Invasion vs Jayson Kross and Texas Pete (No Time Limit)
The crowd was split between these two fan favorite teams. It was a classic back and forth effort by both teams. Hammett looked unhappy early on as Billy Starr missed a frog splash on Kross. Pete would take his share of punishment later on in the match. He'd get hit by a beautiful swan ton bomb by Starr. "Mr. 450" honored the late Eddie Guerrero with his version of the 3 amigos. Kross a couple of times would get nailed on the apron. Pete had a heart bigger than Texas by kicking out a lot of pin attempts and tagging Jayson. Jayson nailed Hammett off the apron and delivered a sharpshooter to Starr. Pete held Hammett back as Starr was forced to tap out.
Winners: New CLPW Tag Team Champions Jayson Kross and Texas Pete.
