On Sunday afternoon, CHIKARA makes its long overdue return to Cleveland, Ohio thanks to our pals at AIW! That afternoon, we're bringing a loaded card of 8 matches to the West Park Party Center, and this is what we've got up our sleeve:
The Campeonatos de Parejas ("tag team championship") will be on the line in the main event of our Cleveland return engagement! The reigning Campeones, Claudio Castagnoli and Ares, just put their first successful defense in the record books back in May. Now, they will face Equinox and Helios for the richest prize in tag team wrestling. Will the explosive, high-flying offense of The Future Is Now be enough to unseat the Swiss tandem?
If you ask Eddie Kingston, he "made" Tim Donst in the summer of 2007, when he beat him within an inch of his life up in Wallingford, CT. He put Tim Donst on the map in the most brutal way possible. But a lot has changed for both of these men since that landmark match took place. Donst has aligned himself with the Bruderschaft under Claudio and Ares, and in Kingston's eyes, that's just drawn another bullseye on Donst. The reigning Young Lions Cup champion won't have to worry about losing his treasured trophy in Cleveland, but he might lose a whole lot more if he isn't ready to go to war with Kingston on June 27th!
Back in April, we had attempted to stage this match as part of the mighty "Jack of All Trios" weekend, but fate conspired against us. Now we're going to make good on it when we hit Cleveland in June, as "Lightning" Mike Quackenbush joins forces with Frightmare to take on the Bruderschaft's treacherous tandem of Lince Dorado and Pinkie "Pink Ant" Sanchez! These four combustible elements will collide on Sunday, June 27th!
Player Dos is a former Young Lions Cup champ, internationally famed for his incredible, high-flying offense. When we hit Cleveland in June, Dos will have his work cut out for him, as he must face the tallest, heaviest man on our roster in the Finnish super-heavyweight Tursas! Thus far, no man has been able to knock Tursas cleanly off his feet, let alone attempt to pin him, so Player Dos will have to unleash an entire arsenal of aerial moves if he wants to be the first to take one over the intimidating viking warrior.
A first time singles confrontation highlights our return to Cleveland, as the ever-popular Player Uno squares off with Johnny Gargano. Uno was sidelined with an injury just prior to King of Trios 2010, but has made a complete recovery and is back in fighting form. He'll need to be on top of his game as Gargano, who has popped up sporadically in CHIKARA's storied past, is looking to make a name for himself at the expense of the masked Canuck.
Two fan-favorite trios will face off when CHIKARA returns to Cleveland in June. Blowin' in from the Windy City come the charismatic Soul Touchaz, led by C.Red, who have won over the CHIKARA faithful in the past few years, thanks in large part to unforgettable appearances at the annual King of Trios tournament. Our most beloved threesome, The Colony, will stand opposite them, looking to reassert their dominance, after coming so close to capturing the King of Trios crown back in April. This first-time meeting of Da Soul Touchaz and The Colony promises to be an action-packed affair!
