CLPW made its debut last night in Union, IL at the American Legion Post 482. It was a reasonable-sized venue with good parking, full bar & good food. The low ceiling did pose some concerns but nothing that wrestlers haven't seen from other venues.
The show starts with Nick H thanking the crowd and the new owners of the ALP 482. Ring announcer Mike Vest comes out with the beautiful Charm at his side. It's been a while since the CLPW Village have seen Ms. Charm at ringside so it was great having her back.
1. Doug Simmons vs Matt Nics
This was a good opening match with two youngsters making their CLPW debut. This match had high flying action with the larger Simmons out-classing Nics. Simmons delivered an impressive version of the classic "Rocker Drop". The end came for Nics when he leaped off the ropes only to be caught by Simmons into a power bomb/pinning combination.
Winner: Doug Simmons
2. Doug Simmons vs Thunderfoot w/Ryland Foxx
Doug Simmons remained in the ring after his impressive win over Matt Nics. Ryland Foxx came out asking Simmons for a match against his star....Thunderfoot. The Pale Warrior jumped Simmons from behind as the match began. After a brief action on the floor, Simmons was caught by Thunderfoot into a thundering DDT. A missed clothesline by Simmons lead to a spinning kick to the chest. Foxx distracted the referee long enough for Thunderfoot to have his tomahawk come into play for the pin-fall.
Winner: Thunderfoot
*Ryland Foxx and Nick H began a war of words afterwords. Nick, on the mic, hollers, "I am the owner! I'm the boss not you! What comes around goes around. I found the meanest man in indy sports."
Thunderfoot is then attacked by a fan at ringside who turns out to be "The Machine". Nick H suspends both Ryland Foxx and Thunderfoot for a month. A nice pop by the CLPW Village goes out to the Machine.
3. Tony Rican vs "The Strangler" Diego Corleone (Return bout from April 24th)
"The strangler" comes out to ringside yelling at the ladies and children. One small girl almost cries. Chants of "Who's the man?" by Corleone is echoed through the venue. Rican catches Corleone with a high dropkick. The speed of Rican was too much until his opponent catches him with the classic eye rake. "The Strangler" takes control until the Latin star reverses a figure four. Rican shows his version of the Code Breaker and then gets caught by a nasty boot to the face. The action spilled to the floor as Rican was thrown into the post. "The Strangler" showed why he got his name by choking Rican out around the ring with a rope. Corleone tosses his opponent back into the ring to set up a swinging neckbreaker onto his knee. This move earned Corleone the pin-fall.
Winner: "The Strangler" Diego Corleone
*CLPW newcomer Billy Whack is introduced along with Johnny Michael Armonni as the new voices of CLPW. They provided the commentary while On The Mat taped the show.
4. "Classic" Chris Hamilton vs The CLPW Light HeavyWeight Champion J.T. Simmons (Non Title/Grudge Match)
This match was indeed a grudge match and one of the more physical matches on the card. Simmons attacked Hamilton at ringside and tossed him into a row of chairs. Simmons pulls his opponent back in the ring only to nail him with the DDT. Hamilton gets choked over the middle rope. The "Classic" one stages a rally with a fireman's carry into a Samoan drop. A low blow behind the official's back swings the tide into the favor of Simmons. It all came to a quick halt for Simmons when he missed a shoulder tackle in the corner. Hamilton scooped up Simmons into a "classic" power bomb shades of the late great WWE HOFer Junkyard Dog. The bell rings three seconds later for a victorious Hamilton.
Winner: "Classic" Chris Hamilton
*Hamilton challenged Simmons to a re-match for the next show on July 24th to a title match.
5. The CLPW Heavy Weight Champion, "He's All That" Steve Boz vs "Silent Intensity" Austin Roberts
As always, The B-O-Z comes out to electrify the CLPW Village. This match was a war. A missed turnbuckle splash gave Roberts an early advantage. Roberts hit Boz with an impressive double arm suplex. The challenger avoided a possible match ending superkick. The action once again hit the floor as both men went around the American Legion Post. The crowd went wild as tables and even a trash can was used. Both men lost track of the count as referee Chris Mathews reached ten.
Winner: A Double Count Out(Boz retains CLPW Title)
*************15-Minute Intermission Break***************
6. Mia Martinez vs December (Ladies Action)
This was also a return bout from April 24th. Poor December was ambushed early on and received several stomps to her gut. Mia risked disqualification on several counts with an illegal choke.
Ms. Martinez hit her version of Brother Ray's Bubba Bomb. December caught a break when Mia took too long climbing the ropes and checking out the low ceiling. December rolled out of a flying splash. Just when it looked like December was back in the match, she missed a monkey flip in the corner causing her to get pinned by Martinez.
Winner: Mia Martinez
* Billy Whack entered the ring and announced himself as the former owner of the LWF (Lunatic Wrestling Federation). He claimed Nick H told him that he could do what ever he wanted. He pulled out an old championship belt out of his bag bragging that it cost him $2000. Since CLPW does not have a Womens Champion, Mr. Whack handed Mia Martinez the title making her the new CLPW/LWF Womens Champion.
Nick H came out to express his unhappiness about Billy Whack making up his own title. The lovely December challenged Mia to a submission match for the July 24th show. No word yet if this new title would be on the line.
7. Jarod Priest vs Justice Jones (Winner Takes All)
These two men on April 24th tied in a battle royal where the winner received a shot at any CLPW title that they chose. Nick H came out before the match to thank referee Chris Mathews for a good job of officiating that evening. A big applause came for the return of CLPW Senior Official Matt Burns. It was great to see Mr. Burns back in action.
This was a Battle of the Bulls. The match started with some impressive take downs and hard Ric Flair chops. A missed drop kick by Jones lead to a huge elbow drop by Priest. The match went outside as even fans got involved. Justice Jones held his opponent so two young fans at ringside could deliver chops. The final two minutes several pin attempts and good mat wrestling. Priest came close to winning with a backslide. The final seconds saw Jones lay his arm across Priest's chest but time ran out.
Winner: A Double Count Out (A return match has been set for July 24th with no time limit or disqualification)
It was a great show and the fans seemed happy. CLPW returns to Union, IL on July 24th with:
-The CLPW Tag Team Champions Jayson Kross and Texas Pete vs The "450" Invasion ("Mr. 450" Hammett & Billy Starr)
