CHIKARA Pro Wrestling made their return to Illinois and their debut in Chicago on 6/24/11 with "The Case of the Bulletproof Waldo" at Logan Square Auditorium. A jam-packed, very appreciative crowd of over 200, with many standing, came out.
There were nearly 150 in line when doors opened, with Dr. Keith coming out to provide updates here and there.
Can't complain about the setup, with fans on the stage and the balcony cut off, but you could still here the announcers doing their thing.
PJ Drummond was booed, the most shameful event of the evening. GALLI talent did not make it, as did Ares.
Thanks to @chikarapro on Twitter for refreshing memory:
1) Batari d. Throwback & Matt Classic when after some confusion, Kodama hit a flying neckbreaker on Classic.
2) Ophidian d. Isaias Velasquez via Death Grip submission.
3) FIST (Johnny Gargano/Chuck Taylor) d. Colony (Green Ant/Soldier Ant) with fury of moves/stomps on Soldier Ant.
4) Young Lions Cup champion Frightmare d. Hieracon in non-title match with bridge pin.
5) Sara Del Ray (BDK) d. Icarus via clean pin in 12 Large Summit match.
Intermission. Pretty much every talent out and Quack signs autographs.
6) Claudio Castagnoli d. Hallowicked with foot on ropes pin in 12 Large Summit match.
7) UltraMantis Black d. Fire Ant via Praying Mantis Bomb in 12 Large Summit match.
8) Eddie Kingston d. Colt Cabana via spinning back fist.
9) Da Soul Touchaz (Acid Jazz, Marshe Rocket, Willie Richardson) d. BDK (Tim Donst, Tursas, Jakob Hammermeier) when Willie, with help from the returning C-Red, hit a top rope leg drop on Jakob.
Crowd chanted "Chicago" to give props to the Touchaz and "please come back." Quack was non-commital on a return as I left, saying "We'll try," but after a supportive and wonderful crowd like that, they HAVE to.
If wrestling is a boatload of fun, this show was a Navy aircraft carrier. Wonderful fun times.
The ring announcer sang some song on guitar to open the show, with no mic for some reason.
