Pro Wrestling Blitz's Tribute was held Saturday, September 3rd, 2011 at the VFW Hall in Joliet, IL in front of a loud sellout crowd and saw a change in attitude in one of the champions, plus Blitz's own Tony Scarpone taking on former 6-time world heavyweight champion Kevin Nash.
Match 1 (Triple Threat): Gringo Loco vs. Heroes del Amor vs. Gilbert Lewis
Gringo Loco and Heroes started with some crisp & fast lucha action until Gilbert got involved and got an electric wave dance going between the three. This didn't last long as Loco and Heroes tossed him to the floor and continued trying to one-up each other. Heroes hit a tope con hilo on Gilbert and Gringo after Gringo had been discarded to the floor. Back in the ring, Lewis finally slowed down Heroes with the Square Root, but Gringo Logo capitalized with a school boy with his hand on the 2nd rope to get the win in 5:50.
New Blitz Champion "Canadian Sex Icon" Ryan Slade came out for scheduled interview time along with members of his entourage, The Elite: Matty Starr, Zach Thompson, and Ashton Vuitton. Ryan Slade wasted no time in laying down an open challenge, claiming no one had accepted the same offer earlier in the day. Joliet's own "Waterboy" Mike Horning came out and said since no one's accepted Slade's challenge and since he didn't hear of any such challenge, he'll accept. Blitz benefactor Aira Bella Donna came out and said the match would happen tonight in the main event and it would be for the Blitz Championship.
After Bella Donna, Horning, and Slade returned to the back, Matty Starr took the mic, saying he's going to win again tonight like he has in recent months and to bring out his opponent now, leading to...
Match 2: "Walking Aphrodesiac" Matty Starr (w/Zach Thompson and Ashton Vuitton) vs. Hardcore Craig
Starr clearly didn't know who he was calling out because he didn't seem as confident when Craig came through the curtain. At the bell, however, Starr stood up to Craig, poking his finger at him and even shoving the veteran, who pushed right back sending Matty to the mat. Starr escaped to the floor but stumbled over the steel steps, appeared to have seriously damaged a knee. For the next few minutes, Craig laid a heavy handed beating on the youngster. Craig when for a bodyslam, but Starr floated over it, shoved Craig into the buckle and hit a kitchen sink knee to the sternum. Starr continued to work over Hardcore's sternom and also would distract the ref to allow Vuitton and Thompson to get some illegal choking in. Craig caught Starr while going for a cross body, but he couldn't hold his weight because of the pounding he'd received to his chest cavity. Hardcore caught Starr with an inverted atomic drop while he was going for a leapfrog, and followed with a release northern lights suplex into the corner. Craig got some close 2-counts with a Michinoku Driver and an Air Raid Crash. The crowd was way into these close 2-counts. Starr went below the belt and hit a dropkick which sent Craig into the corner. Starr charged and hit a rolling cannonball, then a quebrada for another two count. Craig reversed an irish whip to the corner and followed Matty in, who tried to push his way backward over Craig but got caught in a Hardcore Hangover for the pin in 17:20. The crowd was deafening here as the ring announcer could barely be heard.
Match 3: Dysfunction and "The Messiah of the Spinebuster" Machine vs. "Beer City Bruiser" Brandon Blaze and No Limits Champion "Simply Amazing" Justin Dredd.
Blaze and Dredd went to opposite corners to get a good look at the crowd before the bell but were viciously attacked. Dys and Machine showed a lot of tag team chemistry here, keeping Blaze in their corner and wearing him down with blind tags and combinations. Blaze started to throw some chops at Machine but was immediately hit with a double handed choke bomb for two. After about four minutes, the No Limits champ was tagged in and hit a top rope cross body on Machine and an enzeguri on Dysfunction. Soon after, Dys went for a dive off the 2nd rope but got caught in Justin's jumping ace crusher. Machine tried to grab Dredd for the double handed choke bomb, but the champ dropkicked out of that for a 2-count when Dys broke up the pin. Machine hit the Beer City Bruiser with his spinebuster, but somehow Blaze managed to kick out. Machine charged Blaze in the corner but missed. Brandon nailed Machine with a lungblower to the chest, staggering the big man into a traditional lungblower by Dredd for the pin in 6:46. Then, for apparently no particular reason at all, Justin hit Brandon upside the head with the No Limits belt and proceeded to bloody him further with Dysfunction's pipe! An explanation for this is needed for sure.
Match 4: "The Insurance Policy" Tony Scarpone vs. "Big Sexy" Kevin Nash
Before the match, Nash had some comments for CM Punk before blaming Scarpone for his bag containing his gear not showing up to the building. Fortunately, he said, he has to wear his knee brace at all times so he was able to wrestle. Scarpone got fed up with the accusations and Pearl Harbored Big Kev. Tony's blows were putting the WWE star to the mat, but it wasn't long before Nash was driving the knees into Scarpone in the corner, followed by the elbows. The Insurance Policy battled back and wore the bigger man down with a headlock. The ref dropped the arm twice but Nash held on before it dropped a 3rd time. Scarpone went to the 2nd rope and hit a double ax handle for 2. The Joliet faithful, who at the start were only cheering for Nash, were now split in their chants. Tony went for a second double ax handle but got caught with a chokeslam for the pin at the 4:27 mark.
A video then played showing that Al Snow would be back in Joliet for Blitz's next show October 1st.
Match 5: Zach Thompson vs. "Latin Lover" Tony Rican
Rican schooled Thompson for the first couple minutes of the match until Thompson went to the eyes and hit a shoulder breaker for two. Rican had started to mount a comeback when Thompson grabbed him and belly to belly suplexed him over the top rope to the floor! The Latin Lover either showed amazing healing power here or the adreneline pushed him through, but he again mounted a comeback, capped off with his inverted DDT for the win in 8:11.
Match 6: "Ironman" Mark Sterling and Silas Young vs. Mike Sydal and The White Russian
The 279lbs White Russian made it look easy for the 1st four minutes, bouncing Sterling and Young across the ring and tossing Young backwards with a Warrior press. Silas asked for Sydal to be tagged in, to which the White Russian obliged. For a bit, Young and Sterling's plan didn't work as Sydal held his own until Sydal was leveraged face first into the corner while Silas charged at him with a boot on the apron while Sterling had the ref's attention. Sterling and Young worked over Sydal's back with a Boston Crab while Silas pushed Sterling back to add pressure to the hold. Sydal was able to make the tag when he slid through Sterling's legs, allowing the White Russian to come in and hit a double clothesline and a Roadwarrior Animal-style double suplex. White Russian launched Sydal like a rocket onto both opponents for 2. White Russian and Young spilled to the floor as Sydal missed a standing moonsault. Sterling grabbed him with a schoolboy and a handful of tights to steal the win in 17:37.
Match 7: "Rockstar" Jimmy Rockwell vs. "The Urban American Dream" Willie "Da Bomb" Richardson
Rockwell went to the eyes right off the bat, but when he charged at Willie he bounced right off of him. Willie didn't even hit him as he was busy favoring the eye. Da Bomb hit an exploder calf kick, showing great agility for the big man. Rockstar was able to get a face-to-face stunner, but Richardson answered with an inverted atomic drop and the Pounce for the win in 2:50.
Main Event (Blitz Championship Match): "Waterboy" Mike Horning vs. Blitz Champion "Canadian Sex Icon" Ryan Slade (w/Ashton Vuitton)
Ashton's first attempt at interfering was thwarted and the challenger ran roughshod over the champ for the first minute of the match. Horning targeted the arm, hitting a tornado single arm DDT. While the ref was checking on Slade, the Waterboy hit the ropes but spilled to the outside as Vuitton had the ropes pulled down. Slade ran into Horning's boot twice in the corner, then the Joliet native got a 2-count with a dropkick. Horning missed his 2nd rope moonsault but Slade only could get two. Horning called for a Death Valley Driver, but put Slade down when Ashton got up on the apron. Horning saw Slade coming with a clothesline, ducked it, went for the Death Valley Driver again but the Canadian Sex Icon landed on his feet. Slade went for the Ry-plex Mach 2 but Horning sandbagged him and got a 2-count with a sunset flip. Waterboy went for a German Suplex but the champ reversed with a standing switch and got a Rude Awakening for two. Horning came back and had Slade down again to where the ref needed to check if he could continue. Horning hit the ropes and again Vuitton snuck up on him, this time with a double sledge, giving Slade the opportunity to hit the Ry-plex Mach 2 to retain the championship at the 7:50 mark.
Match 1 (Triple Threat): Gringo Loco vs. Heroes del Amor vs. Gilbert Lewis
Gringo Loco and Heroes started with some crisp & fast lucha action until Gilbert got involved and got an electric wave dance going between the three.
