This particular installment of the Chicago Style Wrestling promotion took place at Guerin College Preparatory School in River Grove, Illinois. It is located at 8001 W. Belmont Avenue, which is basically along the border of the City of Chicago on its northwest side.
The show began promptly at 7:15 PM with a number of dignitaries present. Attending the show were such notables as Rick Walsh of the VWAA, the lovely and talented Dymond, Ryan Phoenix of IWA Mid-South fame, the man who single handedly saved Luther High School North Alex Thorn, in addition to Steve Rogers (hi Cap!), the Shoto Khan Tiger, the Ghost and myself, none other than me, Mr. Happy of the Hardcore Hotline, and the beautiful star of WWE's Tough Enough Ivelise.
Your ring announcer was Mark Reel and your commentators for the exclusive DVD release were the Hardcore Hotline's Stan Pain and " The Articulator " Steve Kenton. There were two referees for this show: the ever popular Steve Hammond and Alex Olson.
Let's begin! Our first match was a Dark Match that saw the young team of Ken Sutra and Matt Knicks beat Craig Mitchell and the debuting Scott Spade from the POWW promotion. Spade and Mitchell were tenacious and almost finished off the youngsters, who are only into their second year each in the business, though you wouldn't know it. Spade was the veteran in this match and laid the postmatch beat down along with Mitchell after Sutra and Knicks barely came away with the win.
The interview segment, Foxxy's Pit, starring Ryland Foxx, saw him get in the face and initiate physical contact with the CSW Champion Willie " Da Bomb " Richardson, with all " heck " breaking loose, until the Commissioner of CSW, C-Red, came out to not only restore order, but to set forth some matches to take place later in the show. To the audience's surprise, he put his own friend of many years, the champion Willie, in a Handicap Match (Non-Title, of course) for later in the evening.
Our next encounter saw Ryland Foxx manage a man with literally 0% body fat, Ace Martino, into defeating one-half of the team If Looks Could Kill, Greg Glover.
The next match saw the debut of a brother tag team, Colen and Steve Cambridge. Will they be remembered in time like the famous duos of Ole and Gene (and yes, Lars) Anderson? Rick and Scott Steiner? Booker and Steve Huffman? Or will they be relegated to the likes of Scott and Sam Reynolds, Keith and Kent Cole, or Bill and Randy Mulkey? Time will tell....
On this night, they had to face the man who barks like a dog in honor of every Marine out there (oo-rah!) Carlos Rivera and the man who has been around the scene since the mid-1990's, and was trained in the WCW's Power Plant, the humungous Kraven. The Cambridge Brothers took a severe beating but were able to beat their opponents. Somehow...
In a match to determine a qualification for entry into the Taste Of Gold match to take place next month, Austin Roberts beat the other half of If Looks Could Kill, Brian Nelson, and while Nelson surely held his own, he did suffer a brutal beating. Roberts disheartened the audience, as everyone hoped for Nelson to win the match and qualify for the modified Ladder match next month. Modified, because hanging from the ceiling will be a contract for the recipient to be able to issue a transaction and gain a championship match against any champion of his choosing at any time of his choosing. Disheartened, because the people were hoping that Nelson would go on to win next months match, which would have enabled him to gain a tag team title match for he and Glover. These people want them in the title picture and Roberts made it clear that it is not happening.
With Roberts winning, he joins the 4 others who qualified by virtue of their won-loss record: Marshe Rockett, Acid Jazz, and Nick Brubaker.
The night then took a strange turn, as the Chicago Street Fight between Remy Raines and his former partner, T.J. Steele was to take place, but the team of Matt Knicks and Kenny Sutra came out and confronted Steele as he was gloating. They were irate over some sort of attack that ended up with Raines in the hospital and - to the joy of the crowd - they began an attack on the arrogant T.J. Steele. Steele had been bragging so much over hotlines, message boards, radio and television spots that he was putting his career on the line in this match, but as it turned out he would live to see another day, as he was able to fight Sutra and Knicks off, mostly due to them being expended from their earlier match where they had a tough time. Knicks was put through a table that Ryland Foxx, Steele's manager, had brought in.
The CSW Tag Team Championships were on the line next, as the champions, Hunter Paine and Marco Anthony took on Team B.S. that's Boz and Simmons, because anything else... well, it's B.S!
What a brutal encounter! The huge and ripped to shreds Doug Simmons kept going toe to toe with that big mean nasty giant of a behemoth, Hunter Paine, with the shrewd technique of Marco Anthony setting up various positions where the strengths of Paine were able to put some dents into the challenger's offense. As usual, Steve Boz put on a wrestling clinic and used scientific manuevering not seen in any of the two television promotions, yet smartly saving the high risk maneuvers for the precise moment where their impact can be felt. With the referee Steve Hammond knocked out, the crowd was ecstatic in seeing Doug Simmons, add another championship to his biography (he was the first CSW Champ) when he and Steve Boz scored the victory and paraded around with the belts!
Oh, but it wasn't to be. You see, with Hammond knocked out, the other referee, Alex Olsen, ran out and counted the pin on the champions just as Mr. Hammond was recovering and Hammond refused to allow Olsen's decision to stand. To settle the confusion, the CSW Commissioner, C-Red came out and, to his dismay, announced that he was honoring the first referee's decision to stand, thus returning the belts to Paine and Anthony. He did, however, sanction a rematch for the next show.
Next came the Handicap Match where the CSW Champion, Willie " Da Bomb " Richardson had to take on both Matt Marquee and the New Age Samoan, Matu. To make matters worse, Matu was accompanied by his lovely Sonella - and the dastardly Ryland Foxx! However, to say this was your standard handicap match is grossly incorrect. For the first few minutes, Marquee stunned the audience into silence as he went toe to toe with the CSW Champ in a way that few veterans have. Richardson, since winning the title, has wins over numerous people, and this performance by the young Marquee must surely put him in consideration for future title contention. Manu, as usual, brutalized the champion, but he also displayed something that he had to, for certain, learn in his native South Pacific Islands, in the form of crisp Muay Thai Kickboxing techniques. In the end, the champion prevailed, and to add insult to injury... well, he grabbed Ryland Foxx and brutalized him also. It should be noted that the alluring Faith accompanied Willie to the ring....
The beating that Foxx was taking from Richardson prompted an angry Austin Roberts to come out and in what is unusual for Roberts, he actually was tentative and was asking, sternly, for Richardson to let Foxx go and to not execute the Pounce on him. Richardson promptly executed the maneuver, further incensing Roberts, who threatened to have the move (the Pounce ) banned from being used.
In the Main Event of the evening, a 3-Way Match, with Triple Threat Rules in effect (meaning one fall to a finish with three competitors), the Metra Division Champion Mr. 450 Hammett took on Nick Brubaker and Acid Jazz. This match had everything you can imagine being executed, with all three men trying to get any advantage that they could but with a pace so fast, no one could. Brubaker displayed his crisp moves and Jazz had his offensive maneuvering bringing him close to a win, but the champion continued his high flying execution and was able to score the win and retain his title. In a show of sportsmanship, Jazz congratulated 450 on the win as a swarm of children overtook the ring in celebration.
The next show is October 15th, 2011, with a special guest - Brutus Beefcake scheduled to join them at Taste Of Gold 2011.
