Chicago Style Wrestling - October 15, 2011
A Taste Of Gold - Guerin Prep in River Grove, IL
Thanks to the announce team of Steve Kenton, Mark Riehl, and Stan Pain for submitting these results to us.
The show began with the promising young tag team of Matt Knicks and Kenny Sutra being dealt quite possibly a fatal blow against their opponents, " The New Age Samoan " Matu and his partner Craig Mitchell. This loss, we are sure, surprised Sutra and Knicks, who have been on a slow climb moving up the ranks in the tag team division. Not taking anything away from their adversaries, whose careers are beginning to leave an impression on the Chicago Style audience, but Craig Mitchell has had difficulty in acclimating himself into any tag team he's been in and it's usually because of his selfish nature. Combine that with a communication barrier with the man-beast from the South Pacific, and it figured to be a difficult but attainable victory for Sutra and Knicks. Could they be possibly thinking of letting go of their tag team aspirations? Let's hope not, but one thing is for sure, whatever nuances Mitchell may have had in past dealings with various tag team partners, he found a way to get past them and displayed none of his selfish traits. In addition, the communication between the two men seemed to be on an even keel as they showed no problems and Sonnella, Matu's valet at ringside (and possibly his main squeeze?) was very instrumental in this communication process. Matu & Craig Mitchell beat Matt Knicks and Kenny Sutra...
When you think of Foxxy's Pit, what's the first thing that comes to your mind? All " heck " breaking loose, that's what! On this night, Ryland Foxx introduced Steve and Collin Cambridge to the crowd and expounded on their virtues, coming off of their victory at the last show over Carlos Rivera and Kraven. The crowd was stunned, however, when out of nowhere, who decides to show up in CSW but the legend of the Windy City himself, Psycho! Psycho joined in praising these young men and expressed confidence in the future of this brother tag team. Raining in on their parade, to be sure, was Kraven, who was none too thrilled with the result from the last show and he issued a challenge, saying " I've got somebody. " With Chris Sader on the other side of town promoting the release of Sadermania at the Chicago International Film Festival, and everyone else booked in matches already, the Cambridge Brothers and their new " insurance policy " felt that Kraven was bluffing and accepted his challenge.
In the next match of the evening, Carlos Rivera had the upperhand for a good portion of his match against another area mainstay, Scott Spade. One recurring factor that was repeated throughout the match was that as much as Rivera delivered, Spade was able to counter him at specific junctures before finally ending the match after reversing the momentum late in the match and executing a piledriver for the win. Scott Spade beat Carlos Rivera...
Next, we began the evening's trifecta of title matches with Ryland Foxx leading his charge, Ace Martino, against the CSW Metra Division Champion Mr. 450 Hammett in a fast paced encounter. It appeared at times that the beloved 450 was on the verge of losing the title but he centered his concentration on Martino's trapezius muscles and his neck. Ace was starting to show signs of wear and tear before Nick Brubaker ran out like a mad man and was looking for the championship belt at ringside. He was like a man posessed! He tried to help his stablemate Martino but failed in his interference. 450 soundly beat Martino but was brutally attacked after the match with Brubaker pronouncing that he will be taking the Metra Division Title. With a little bit of tweeking to his game plan, Ace Martino may be the one to take that belt, though he'll have to get himself back in contention. He has the necessary tools. Metra Division Champion Mr. 450 Hammett beat Ace Martino to retain the title...
The CSW Commissioner, C-Red came out and told the CSW Champion Willie Richardson that due to his scheduled opponent not being able to make it from Mexico (El Grande Pistolero) that he could have the night off. This prompted the arrogant young upstart, Matt Marquee, to come out and issue an immediate challenge, citing his performance against the champion at the last show. We weren't done. " The Strangler " Diego Corleone came out demanding a title shot and C-Red obliged both challengers and put his friend in a precarious position once again, this time by having him defend the belt immediately in a three-way, one-fall to a finish match. The man knows the champion very well, we all know this, but he aims to preach his greatness to us by having Willie constantly displaying his prowess and dominance. The two men attempted to wrest the title away, but the champ dominated thoroughly and caught Marquee with his finishing maneuver ( that Austin Roberts wants banned), The Pounce, and pinned him. CSW Heavyweight Champion Willie " Da Bomb " Richardson beat Matt Marquee and Diego Corleone in a three-way match to retain his title. As of October 15th of 2011, he has been champion for 330 days...
Next came the afforementioned tag team match where the Cambridge Brothers, Steve and Collin took on Kraven and his " mystery partner " who turned out to be none other than... Brutus " The Barber " Beefcake! There sure is a lot of talk regarding some of the superstars of the past and how they " look " or " work " in the present day, but Brutus not only hasn't lost a step, he went toe-to-toe with the young brother tag team. Brutus and Kraven caught the brothers in the middle of the ring, each guy in a sleeper hold, and put them both to sleep and gaining the victory. Of course, what would a Brutus " The Barber " Beefcake match be without a haircut at the end? The crowd was treated to a double affront to hair cuts as both Steve and Collin got the snip-snip and buzzzzz treatment! To add insult to injury, the man who accompanied them, the legendary Psycho berated them afterwards! Kraven and Brutus Beefcake beat Steve and Collin Cambridge...
After a brief intermission it was time for a Loser-Must-Retire Match between the two former partners of Remy Raines and T.J. Steel. This was one of the best matches in either men's careers and as the brutal match went on, seeing swift kicks and suplexes and planchas galore, the people witnessing this had a feeling of melancholy because everyone in attendance knew that it would be the last time in the ring as a wrestler for one of these superb athletes. It was Remy Raines who defeated his former protege and tag team partner, T.J. Steele to win the match and cut short the career of young T.J. Against the wishes of his manager, Ryland Foxx, Steele proceeded to do exactly what the ringside commentator alluded to when he said earlier that there comes a point in a man's life when he's got to stand up for what he believes in and do the right thing, regardless of the circumstances at hand. T.J. Steele congratulated his former partner and the two then made amends in front of the teary-eyed audience. Remy Raines beat T.J. Steele in a career-ending match...
In the final title match of the evening, we saw a return match from our previous CSW show, where Hunter Paine and Marco Anthony defended the CSW Tag Team Championship against the team of Steve Boz and Doug Simmons. This time, however, the challengers had Psycho in their corner! The match saw both teams brutalize each other with Doug Simmons constantly charging Hunter again. Marco Anthony did well for much of the match before his body took a turn for the worst after a succession of moves from Steve Boz. Simmons was hurt at ringside and had crawled to the back in his dizziness. Paramedics tried to keep him in back but he fought them off, but before he made it back to the ring, his partner, the B-O-Z had positioned Marco Anthony towards the ring apron for Psycho to hit Anthony with a club. What happened instead was something nobody expected, as Psycho through the club over Boz holding Anthony and sent it straight into the hands of Hunter Paine, who whacked Boz in the head with it, leading to the pin. Psycho had turned on Boz and Simmons, and before Doug was able to make it back in, Boz suffered the pin and the match was over. CSW Tag Team Champions Hunter Paine and Marco Anthony beat Steve Boz and Doug Simmons...
In the Main Event of the evening, the contract was hung high above the ring. This was the Taste Of Gold match, where the object was to climb a ladder and take the contract, a contract that enables the holder to redeem it in exchange for a championship match against the title of his choosing at the time of his choosing! The high flying Soul Touchaz of Acid Jazz and Marshe Rockett were able to use their tag team techniques against the onslaught of Nick Brubaker and the man they were betting on in Las Vegas, Austin Roberts. This match took a heavy toll on these men that for certain had shortened these men's careers, as they battered and bruised each other and rammed a set of ladders into each other. The individuals that they are saw Roberts and Brubaker go at it eventually, but no one will ever forget Rockett and Jazz at one point racing up the same ladder on opposite sides and both try to grab that contract only to fight each other off. Even Austin's manager, Ryland Foxx, got in the ring and started to climb the deformed (by then) ladder, to no avail. It was a proud moment for the winner, Marshe Rockett, as he was the man who eventually was able to climb that ladder uninhibited, as everyone else was laid out, and grab that contract! Austin Roberts took exception to this but the fact remains, we will now be keeping a close eye on Marshe Rockett as he will now be able to hand in that contract at any given time and challenge any of the CSW champions!
Some notables in attendance were area stars Rick Walsh, Milo Cash, Paul Christy, Demeter, Shoto Khan Mask, Alex Thorn, and Ivellise from the USA Network's Tough Enough program...
