Year Of The Phoenix VII was an amazing night in the Council Bluffs National Guard Armory! Here is what went down!
*** Vic Victory defeated “The Passion” Zac James via disqualification. All of “Cheap & Dirty” came out at the beginning of the night as they were all talking about how Shawn Nautilus was going to beat Matty Star to win the PWP Heavyweight Championship, and how Branden Juarez & Preston Maxwell were going to win the main event to win the PWP Tag Team Championship. Zac James then began running down Vic Victory, saying that his championships in PWP were a fluke. Victory & his partner Darren “Thunder” Russell came out and Victory said he’s not going to let him stand there and run his mouth and that he was going to pull double duty tonight. James sent Cheap & Dirty to the back, and Victory sent Russell to the back. James was able to nail Victory with the Platte River Plunge, but he took too long showboating and when he made the pin, Victory kicked out! James then argued with the ref, and Preston Maxwell ran in with a chair ready to attack Vic. The referee saw this and called for the bell. Zac took the chair from Preston, and Preston held Vic up. However, Russell ran back out, and Zac turned around and Russell Yakuza kicked the chair straight into his head! Maxwell collected James as Victory & Russell regrouped in the ring.
*** "The Grizzly Dogs" Buck Albright & Mad Dog McDowell defeated “Team Lariat” “Joe-Dozer” Joey Anderson & “1981’s Finest” Marcus Holiday. This was the debut of “Team Lariat” in PWP, and they showed a lot of potential with some interesting double team maneuvers, however the fan favorites Buck & Mad Dog were able to pull out the win in this contest with a Sidewalk Slam/Axehandle Smash double team maneuver.
*** Joey Daniels defeated Paul Daniels in a BROTHER VS BROTHER GRUDGE MATCH. After last month’s attempt at the Tag Team Titles, Joey was very upset at Paul’s refusal to compromise his integrity and cheat during the match. Joey was berating his brother throughout this match to get the point across. Paul refused to back down and looked to have the match won, however Joey was able to sneak one past the referee and put his feet on the ropes for added leverage and pinned Paul. He escaped the ring quickly as Paul showed his frustration.
*** Jeff O’Shea defeated SM King in a STREET FIGHT. This was a match fueled by hate, and it showed as these men fought all across the armory. O’Shea showed the PWP fans that he was ready for a fight, and both men fought very hard. In the end, O’Shea had a setup with a dead end sign bridged across two chairs in the corner, and after a bit of back and forth, O’Shea hit a huge double knees off the top on King, and then immediately followed up with a huge double stomp sending King straight through the setup and he followed up with the pin and got the win, getting himself a little retribution for all the previous unwarranted attacks on him.
*** “Simply Ravishing” Ryan Slade w/ “Manager Supreme” Axel Greece defeated Abu Colossus to become the #1 Contender to the PWP Heavyweight Championship. Slade went toe to toe with “The Big Hurt” and was able to hold his own. Abu nailed a HUGE Chokebomb on Slade in what the fans thought was going to be all she wrote but Slade was just barely able to get his shoulder off the mat, and Axel Greece took this opportunity to distract the referee. Colossus nailed Greece and sent him flying off the ring apron, and turned around right into Slade’s Fisherman Suplex. This got a two count, Abu was able to get up and went for a HUGE lariat, but Slade ducked, hit ANOTHER Fisherman’s suplex and was able to keep him down for the three count and get the win. Afterwards, Greece was livid after being struck by Colossus and demanded that Slade attack Abu. Slade repeatedly struck Abu in the knee with his Canadian flagpole, leaving him lying in the ring. Abu was able to hobble to the back but you could tell the damage had been done.
*** Matty Star defeated Shawn Nautilus to retain the PWP Heavyweight Championship. Star knew going into this match that he would have to deal with not only the tallest member of the PWP roster in Nautilus, but his “Cheap & Dirty” friends as well. Nautilus stayed in control for a lot of this match, showing the fans he has really come into his own since debuting in PWP less than a year ago. Late in the match, Nautilus nailed Matty Star with a huge choke slam, the same move he pinned Matty with in December, but Matty kicked out! Nautilus was furious and as threw a fit, outside the ring he grabbed a chair and headed back in with the worst intentions. As the referee tried to stop him, Branden Juarez came from the other side and nailed Star with his MDK finishing maneuver. The fans really thought it was over here but Star somehow found the tenacity and strength to kick out! He then was able to reverse another choke slam attempt and pin Shawn Nautilus with a front rolling cradle to retain the coveted title! Afterwards Matty celebrated with the fans, but Ryan Slade came out and eerily stared Star down, almost as if saying “be prepared”.
*** “Cheap & Dirty” Branden Juarez & Preston Maxwell defeated “Beautiful Bodies” Brian Gott & Derek Cornell, “Heroes For Hire” Jimmy Rockwell & Zach Thompson, and Vic Victory & Darren “Thunder” Russell to win the PWP Tag Team Championship. This is one of those matches that is really hard to describe, so much was going on and you could tell every man had glory on their minds as these competitors laid it all on the line. After a feeling out process, all hell broke loose as each man repeatedly attempted pins only to have them broken up by a member of an opposing team. Towards the end of the match, Darren “Thunder” Russell had Preston Maxwell in the center of the ring with his Gorilla Clutch maneuver locked in. Branden Juarez pulled the referee out of the ring, right as Maxwell tapped out! The referee did not see the tap however, and Juarez nailed the ref and knocked him out. This is when things got crazy. Zac James ran out and gave Juarez & Maxwell handcuffs which they used to chain Victory & Russell to the ring posts! Meanwhile the Bodies & Heroes For Hire were in the ring and Bodies nailed their finisher, but alas no referee was in the ring! Cheap & Dirty then entered the ring, attacked the bodies and after an MDK maneuver from Juarez, another ref ran out, counted the 3 and rang the bell. We had new tag team champions and they taunted Victory & Russell as they were still cuffed to the ring posts. As they left, Zac James taunted them with the keys to the cuffs and dropped them in the center of the ring, out of their reach. As the referees helped uncuff Victory & Russell they grabbed the mic, and made a challenge. They said they are sick of having to deal with ALL of “Cheap & Dirty” in every match they are in. They said its time to do things right, and the only way, is with a STEEL CAGE surrounding the ring!
