NAPW (North American Pro Wrestling) once again rocked Elburn, IL last Saturday night (Feb. 25th) at the Elburn Community Center. The fans were treated to another exciting evening of pro wrestling. The charming Cookie Lady was in attendance serving her moist pumpkin bread. The Poisonous Anchovie had the honor of sitting next to a wonderful gal named Samantha. She was the sister of one of the officials. She provided some insightful wrestling knowledge during the show.
New to the show was the sale of cupcakes. Very tasty. Hats off to the ladies that provided them. Unfortunately no pizza this time. The pizza that was being sold in the past was excellent. The main entree was hot dogs. The one that I had was so tasty that I'll skip my share for the next three or four shows.
NAPW ring announcer the Articulator Steve Kenton opened the show with the introduction of the three referees. Senior official Johnny Swift, Adam Ross & Orlando's own Seymour Butts. The wicked announcer for the DVD was Bobby "The Mean Brain" Okerlund. DC Video 108 was on hand to record the event for future DVD purchase. Past shows should be available soon for purchase. I had the privilege to see the cover jacket and it looked pretty sharp.
1. "The Difference" Joey Rose vs Texas Pete
Joey has improved his craft by starting off more as the aggressor. The bout opened with Joey delivering a hip toss, body slam and an impressive sidewalk slam. Pete kicked out of at least three covers early in the match. The Texas native from Eugene, Or bounced back with an elbow off the ropes and a huge clothesline. The match turned neutral when both men delivered a double clothesline to each other. An old fashion small package would be the difference for Joey Rose.
Winner: "The Difference" Joey Rose
2. "The Love Machine" Matt Longtime vs Derek St. Holmes, Esq.
The smooth dancing by "The Love Machine" put the fans into the groove for some action. Derek had to endure the chants of being called a chicken. Longtime opened the bout by yanking his opponents nose and slapping it similar to a Three Stooges episode. Matt became serious by placing his adversary in an arm bar to wear him down. A missed corner splash and take-down arm bar of his own put St. Holmes into the lead. Derek dished out a series of kicks and stomps. Longtime recovered to nail his opponent with an impressive shoulder block off the second rope. A thunderous super kick rocked the jaw of St. Holmes. The referee counted to three but failed to see the foot of St. Holmes on the rope. Longtime raised his hand in victory only to be told that the referee was re-starting the match. The crafty veteran in St. Holmes rolled up "the Love Machine" and illegally grabbed the tights.
Winner: Derek St. Holmes, Esq.
*The new NAPW Commissioner Rockin Randy Ricci was introduced to the crowd so he could announce the next match.
3. Ten Man Rookie Gauntlet. The winner gets a match with Colt "Boom Boom" Cabana and the next NAPW show in Elburn on March 17th. The rules were the same as last month. All ten participants surrounded the ring. The first two entrants would begin the match. Once a decision/fall has been reached, the loser must leave and the winner takes on the next opponent. The last man standing after all ten participants have competed wins the Gauntlet. Another outstanding match like last month with some fresh new faces
A) #1 Cameron Jacobs vs Aaron Xavior
Jacobs, who does an excellent job as being a classic heel, dominates early on in the bout. A slam by Xavier sends Jacobs to the floor. "The Classic Heel" counters with a sunset flip almost leading him to victory. Xavier bounces back with a dropkick and a roll-up pin for the "W".
B) Aaron Xavier vs The Super Tower
The big Super Tower took a shot block to his leg. The cagey Xavier worked over the leg throughout the contest. Tower made a big comeback to earn a victory to the next round.
C) The Super Tower vs Justice Jones
The dangerous Jones pounded justice early on to chop down the huge Tower. Tower's injured leg played a huge factor. Eventually the injured leg would be too much once the massive Jones slapped on his version of the Boston Crab.
D) Justice Jones vs Brandon Hatchet
The classic David vs Goliath. Poor Hatchet looked like a flea as his blows bounced off Jones. A thunderous suplex was the nail in the coffin for the debuting Hatchet.
E) Justice Jones vs DOJ (Department of Justice)
Another debut went down the drain as DOJ was unsuccessful against Jones. The match was very physical with both big men trading shots. The move of the night was a missile dropkick off the ropes by Jones followed with a corner splash.
F) Justice Jones vs The Sea Man
The masked Sea Man also made his debut this evening. Jones kept delivering his brand of justice with heavy punches. The Sea Man actually hung in the match and almost pulled off a huge upset. Jones barely scored the duke with a roll-up after his opponent missed a body splash.
G) Justice Jones vs Cobra Kai
Cobra Kai was the fourth and final rookie to make his debut. Jones pounded on him from the beginning. The big man then focused on Anthony Antonelli at ringside. Jones spat in the face of young Antonelli. The Italian favorite bounced on the apron and draped the throat of Jones off the ropes. A recovering Cobra Kai scored a lucky roll-up win.
*Jones would take his frustration out on Cobra Kai after the match by knocking him out with a thunderous slam.
H) Cobra Kai vs Anthony Antonelli
Antonelli climbs into the ring to pin an unconscious opponent.
*Congrats to Cobra Kai in his rookie debut by shattering the record for quickest loss set by the Big Red Tower at the last show. The match was about 10 seconds.
*March 17th is the next NAPW show in Elburn, IL. Hope the Big Green Tower doesn't show up. I'll demand a refund.
I) Anthony Antonelli vs Alex Bernadino
The two rookie partners put on a clinic. They both looked like veterans. So much action throughout this match. Alex's chest took a pounding with the vicious chops. Unfortunately the match ended in a double count out.
Winner: A Double Count Out
*Commissioner Rockin Randy asked both men to team up later to take on the hottest new tag team in the Midwest in the Midnight Express Reboot. The opponents for the Reboot was scheduled to be the Wildcats but they were a no show.
4. "Reckless" Jay Kross vs "Irish" Andy Anderson
Texas Pete escorted his buddy Anderson to ringside. Kross came out with a crutch while Joey Rose was in his corner. Jay Kross suffered an injury earlier in the week. Rose announced that he re-signed Kross to a 1-year extension. He also didn't want Kross to risk further injury so Joey Rose took Kross's place in the match.
Rose once again started as the aggressor with punches, a big kick and a suplex. The Irish native catches Joey in the corner with a clothesline. A series of stiff kicks to the gut keeps Joey grounded. The Irishman attempts a match ending splash off the ropes only for Rose to bring up his knees. Rose catches his second wind and goes in for the kill. The shocker of the night had Kross double-crossing Joey by nailing him in the back with the crutch. Anderson scored the pinfall.
Winner: "Irish" Andy Anderson
* After the match, Anderson turned on his partner Texas Pete. Anderson and Kross formed an alliance. They had a bitter feud in the old CLPW over the X-Division Title. Kross announced that he used Rose to gain his extension on his contract.
15-Minute Intermission
*****Once again I'm going to split this report into two parts. The Gauntlet match takes time to cover and I want to give each participant their fair coverage. The second half with the NAPW title match will be reported within the next day or two. Also stay tuned for a match involving the use of a cupcake. Yes, I said a cupcake.******
