The monthly Rookie Gauntlet match (see Part I for results) was the last match before the intermission break. The second half heated up the community center.
7. #1 Cameron Jacobs vs Hardcore Craig
"The Classic Heel" earned the right to challenge Craig to a match by winning the gauntlet match. Jacobs worked the crowd over by constantly proclaiming that he's #1. Shouts of #2 by the fans roared throughout the community center.
The Hardcore star opened the bout with a series of arm locks. Craig took a spill to the arena floor. The weaselly Jacobs attempted a piledriver on the floor only to receive a shattering back-drop. They brawled around the ringside area. The action quickly went back in the ring only to spill out again onto the venue floor. The pain on Jacobs face appeared when he was tossed back first onto the barricade. Jacobs used an illegal groin shot to shift the momentum when his opponent entered the ring. Craig countered with a spear. A slug fest by both men drew the praises from the crowd. Craig used a fireman's carry slam for a near pinfall. The end for Jacobs was when he suffered an F5.
Winner: Hardcore Craig
* #1 Cameron Jacobs sporting a bloody mouth still proclaimed he was #1 while leaving the ringside area. Hats off to "The Classic Heel" for his effort against a respected veteran in Hardcore Craig.
8. Derek St. Holmes, ESQ. vs "The Strangler" Diego Corleone in a #1 Contenders Match
The ex-NAPW Champion Corleone was sporting a new haircut. Corleone lost his title last month to Pauly Thomaselli in a best 2-out-of-4 triple threat match. Holmes was the third man in that match.
After a brief lock-up, Holmes nailed an elbow to his opponent's jaw. Punches were exchanged. "The Strangler" ate turnbuckle padding as he was rammed face first. This bout saw some quick covers by both adversaries early on. Derek delivered a hard suplex to Corleone. As the match progressed, each man attempted to wear down their opponent with mat wrestling holds. A slug fest spilled to the floor briefly. Back in the ring, Holmes successfully applied a bear hug that wore his opponent down for a while. "The Strangler" managed to score big with a classic DDT. A foot on the rope saved Holmes. The ex-champion attempted a cross body press only to be reversed for the pin.
Winner: Derek St. Holmes, ESQ
9. The Midnight Express Reboot (Ravishing Ryan Kross and Loverboy Jeff Luxon) vs Tweek Phoenix and Anthony Antonelli
The Reboot suffered their first defeat last month at the hands of "Classic" Colt Cabana and Tweek Phoenix. The MER attacked their opponents after the match and young Antonelli came in with a steel chair for the save. The grudge match was made for this past show. The young Italian rookie in Antonelli continues to become one of the most popular wrestlers in NAPW.
Ravishing Kross and Antonelli begin the match for their respected teams. The powerful Kross shoves the rookie backwards. Both men attempt a test of strength with the massive Kross dominating early on. The youngster makes an impressive comeback. While they were locked up, Antonelli managed to climb his opponent's shoulders and then maneuver himself onto the top rope. The Italian sensation delivered a high cross body that almost ended the match. The Loverboy tagged in but had no luck against Antonelli. The crowd was cheering on the young rookie. Tweek and Anthony started making fast tags and putting a hurt on Luxon. The Reboot was dominating early on like they have in past matches. A Phoenix dropkick almost sends Luxon to the arena floor.
The tide changed to the heel team of the Midnight Express when Antonelli was caught in a powerbomb by Kross. Anthony was in major trouble for over five minutes. Reboot came close several times to end the match. Luxon used an abdominal stretch to almost near perfection. The rookie made the crucial tag sending in a wired Tweek. Eventually all four men were battling in the ring. The match would conclude when Antonelli suffered a low blow and was placed in a revers piledriver by Kross.
Winners: The Midnight Express Reboot
10. The Main Event: The NAPW Champion "The Impact Hater" Pauly Thomaselli vs Justice Jones
The term "main event" was exactly what this match was about. the crowd totally popped for this title bout. Both men opened the contest with big boots to the face, nasty knife chops and a series of stiff blows. Pauly delivered a rough suplex. Jones almost scored a victory early on. Jones then wore the champion down with a half surfboard stretch. Pauly was then placed in a choke hold that almost put him out. I, along with every other fan, was on the edge of my seat. After Pauly escaped the choke hold, a series of chop fests began. Both men were deep red. Thomaselli stunned both Jones and the crowd by catching Justice with a Pele kick. A flip on Jones almost ended the match. Justice managed to reverse a powerbomb. The conclusion came when the champ landed a reverse fisherman's suplex and nailed a 450 top-rope splash.
Winner: The NAPW Champion "The Impact Hater" Pauly Thomaselli
* Both men showed a sign of respect by shaking hands after the match. They respectfully received a major pop for a classic battle. I was privileged to talk to both men after wards and each one was sporting welts. This was indy wrestling at its best.
-NAPW returns for a double shot weekend in May. Friday, May 11th in Whiting, IN and Saturday, May 12th in Elburn, IL. Former TNA/ROH star Homicide will compete at both shows as well as sign autographs and pose for pictures. Check the upcoming show section of the CPW website for more info and matches or go to www.naprowrestling.com.
-Hats off to the entire NAPW roster for a great show. February and March were tough months but April saw a nice surge in both attendance and quality wrestling.
-The rookies continue to bust their butts to put on a great match. Glorioso was impressive in his first outing in Elburn. Would like to see DOJ (Department of Justice) step it up a notch.
-Hope to post interviews in the next few weeks with message board member xtmkeeper and "The All American/Massive Mountain" Michael Mack.
