Saturday, April 28, 2012, Blitz held "Highstakes" at the Joliet Rec Center in Joliet, IL. A near sell out of almost 600 fans jammed the Rec Center for a fun evening of Blitz action. Many wonderful fans including the lovely cookie lady, John and his son Nick and the great Cru-Cut Bryan with his bind full of 500 Matt Hardy action figures made appearances. There was tasty pizza to nibble on as well. Former WWE/TNA Superstar Matt Hardy was the special guest. He signed autographs before & after the show as well as posed photos in the ring during intermission. He's still a hit with the teenage girls. Glad to see Matt back in ring shape.
This was the Poisonous Anchovie's second Blitz show. It is a fun company with a loyal fan base. Everyone made me feel at home. Always awesome to see Rican. I was also glad to finally meet both Tobihope and Tony Scarpone. On to the results!
Pre-show Match
A) Zach Thompson vs Mike Horning
This bout was for those fans who ordered tickets on-line. A very good pre-show match. Horning opened the bout with an arm-bar followed by a nice side headlock. Thompson reversed the headlock but suffered a hard chest chop by Horning. The crowd showed their approval of the effort of both men with loud applause's. Mike missed a splash in the corner and received a big boot. Zach began working over his opponent. Punches were traded back-n-forth with Thompson scoring a near roll-up victory. The match really picked up with Horning nailing Thompson with a thunderous clothesline and nailing a beautiful Northern Lights Suplex. Zach followed with a leg drop off the ropes. The ending came when Horning scored with a spinning tornado DDT like maneuver off the ropes.
Winner: Mike Horning
1. The No Limits Champion "Rock star" Jimmy Rockwell vs Justin Reno
Rockwell already scored points in my book by coming out to Quiet Riot's "Metal Health". This was a solid opening match. Reno used a headlock to control the title holder and pulled the ropes down sending the champion to the floor. These two went at it for close to six minutes. Rockwell's manager caused a distraction enabling Reno to get rolled-up for a pin. Rockwell did hold the tights for good measure.
Winner: "Rock star" Jimmy Rockwell.
2. Kenneth G. Lewis vs Mike Horning
Lewis announced that he was now aligned with Billy Whack. Horning pulled the white shirt of Lewis over his head so he could get some shots in. It was the Mike Horning show early on. Lewis was dropped chest first onto the top ropes. Whack attempted a couple of times to trip Horning. Lewis was able to injure the left arm of Horning and work over the body part. Even Whack would pull on the arm while Lewis distracted the official. Horning fought back with one arm and almost scored a near fall. Lewis got frustrated and kicked Horning in the groin causing a DQ. Another solid match.
Winner: Mike Horning
3. Pauly Thomaselli & Ratt J. Flywheel vs Mike Anthony and Buddy Robets, Jr.
On paper, this match looked good. Pauly is just awesome. Always been a fan of Anthony. The veteran can still go. The brute strength of Thomaselli and Flywheel took over early on. They attacked their opponents and did a number on the younger Roberts. A few guys from the locker room including Brandon Blaze and Hardcore Craig spilled in the ring to attack Thomaselli and Flywheel. A DQ was called. Only disappointing match of the night.
Winners: Pauly Thomaselli and Ratt J. Flywheel
4. "The Warrior" Barry Ryte vs Matt Hardy
This was twenty minutes of awesome wrestling. Both the merchandise tables and the food court was empty. Many teenagers roared as Matt Hardy made his Blitz debut. Ryte did a great job on the mic drawing heat. The fans were glued to this bout. My notes weren't the best because I was also into this match.
Ryte attempted to intimidate Hardy early on but was shoved backwards. They exchanged arm bar reversals. Hardy did nail his opponent with his side affect and his leg drop off the ropes. Ryte did dodge the Twist of Fate a couple of times. The ending was clever with Ryte using a rope to tie Hardy outside of the ring to a post. Count out victory for Barry.
After the match, Hardy grabbed a mic and mentioned how they are a like. "You beat cancer and you won't die like me". Hardy asked to continue the match for a decision. When Ryte refused, chants of "Loser" echoed the venue. Ryte even received the Twist of Fate gaining the biggest pop of the night.
Winner: "The Warrior" Barry Ryte
Intermission
Zach Thompson and Matty Starr vs Brandon Blaze and Hardcore Craig
This was the second best match of the night. Almost thirteen minutes of hard hitting action. The Blaze/Craig team displayed their power early on. Craig did an amazing forward flip onto the arena floor to nail both opponents. Blaze & Craig delivered double chops to their opponents chest. Blaze was back inside dominating his opponents. Matty sucker punched Blaze sending him off the apron. Blaze came back and nailed Thompson with a black hole slam. Craig tagged in and began cleaning house. They nailed the old Hart Foundation 'Hart Attack" on Thompson. Billy Whack came to ringside to distract the referee while Kenneth G. Lewis nailed Blaze with a chair. Craig chased off Whack/Lewis while Starr delivered a piledriver to Blaze.
Winners: Matty Starr and Zach Thompson
6. Robert "Ego" Anthony and Jack Kash vs "The Insurance Policy" Tony Scarpone and Ruff Crossing
"Ego" bolted to ringside with the Ultimate Warrior's classic entrance theme blasting all over the Joliet Rec Center. Anthony insulted the entire crowd. Nobody was good enough for him. He didn't have a partner for the evening. Jack Kash approached ringside and offered to be his partner. Even offered a nice check. Anthony accepted.
Ruff Crossing nails an atomic drop on Kash. Ruff scores a nice leg take-down on Kash followed by a monstrous Scarpone splash. The tide turned with Crossing receiving punishment. Anthony uses a chin lock and a great version of the surf board. Scarpone receives the huge tag and delivers a devastating powerbomb on Kash. Anthony ran through the crowd after the match to avoid Ruff Crossing and a ticked off Scarpone.
Winners: "The Insurance Policy" Tony Scarpone and Ruff Crossing
7. The Blitz Champion Ryan Slade vs Ashton Vuitton
The hated Canadian in Slade received "U.S.A." chants throughout the match. The title match opened with a test of strength. Slade attempted to stomp on the fingers but missed. This title match was almost fifteen minutes of solid action. The champion receives a nice leg sweep take down by the challenger. Many near falls occurred. Slade's manager was ejected by the official for interference. Fellow Canadians Zach Thompson and Matty Starr aided their comrade. Starr illegally hit Vuitton with a piledriver. Slade pins Vuitton and retains his championship.
Winner: Ryan Slade
