On Saturday May 19, 2012 Pro Wrestling Phoenix held its 7th Anniversary Spectacular, celebrating 7 years of PWP in the Omaha metro area. Excited fans once again filled the Council Bluffs National Guard Armory to its limit! What follows is a detailed report of the event's happenings!
1.) “Simply Ravishing” Ryan Slade defeated Sean Cruz & "The Omaha Chainsaw" SM King in an Anytime Anywhere Contract Ladder Match. The contract was suspended high above the ring and the first one to reach it can cash it in anytime! All three of these young athletes were hungry to win this match, and many, many attempts were made to reach for the contract. These matches are always dangerous and all three men took some serious damage, including SM King nailing Slade with a Chainsaw Bomb and Cruz hitting a Cutter off the ladder onto King. Cruz climbed the ladder and Axel Greece got in the ring to stop him, which was enough of a distraction for Slade to Powerbomb Cruz off the top of the ladder, climb up, and grab the contact!
It was announced that due to a family emergency, Branden Juarez was unable to make it to the event that evening, and that the main event would be a one on one match between PWP Heavyweight Champion “Showtime” Bradley Charles & Matty Star.
2.) “The Passion” Zac James defeated Paul Daniels. James came out complaining about having to wrestle Paul Daniels, saying he is a long time member of PWP and should be at the top of the card. He pointed out that he is the only wrestler who has wrestled on EVERY PWP Anniversary event, AND that he has never lost a match at one. Daniels came out fighting, and the two men went back and forth. James nailed a Sliced Bread #2 but somehow Paul kicked out! James was finally able to hit the Platte River Plunge, and once again avoided being on the losing end by getting the pinfall victory. After the match, Cheap & Dirty stable mate Preston Maxwell came out and congratulated Zac James, then put his focus on opponent Hype Gotti. He said Hype is washed up and broken down, and he will end him later in the evening.
3.) Leslie Ray defeated Joey Daniels. Ray returned to PWP for the first time in several years and got a warm welcome back. Joey Daniels confronted his former Super Friends stable mate in the middle of the ring and the match was underway. Joey fought hard and nailed a few impressive lung blowers, but when he attempted his Eye Of The Hurricane maneuver, Ray was able to reverse it and hit a Sit Out Choke Slam to win the match.
4.) David Clark defeated Shawn Nautilus. These guys went at it HARD, trading powerful blows and dangerous chops. Trying his best, Clark still had a tough time knocking the big man off his feet. After a flurry of offense, Clark hit an Exploder Suplex that kept Nautilus down JUST long enough for a 3 count! After the match Clark celebrated as Nautilus looked on angrily.
5.) “The Beautiful Bodies” Brian Gott & Derek Cornell defeated “The Heartland Foundation” Vic Victory & Darren “Thunder” Russell to win the Pro Wrestling Phoenix Tag Team Championship. These two teams are beloved by the PWP fans, and had a fantastic match! The Heartland Foundation worked as a team better than ever against the former champs, and were able to gain control for a majority of the match. Things broke down however, and when Gott was setting Victory up for the Bodies familiar double team maneuver, Russell took out Gott’s leg, but in the process allowed Gott to slam Vic to the mat! The Bodies then were able to get the upper hand on Russell, hit their double team finisher and win the titles for the 2nd time in their careers! After the match, all four men shook hands, but after the Bodies made their way to the back, Victory shocked EVERYONE when he nailed Russell with a devastating Super Kick! He then screamed at him, “We had a plan! You screwed it up! Those were my titles!” then as Russell was pulling himself to his feet in the corner, Victory delivered another Super Kick straight to the temple of Russell, smashing his head between Victory’s foot and the turnbuckle. Chris Havius, who was at ringside, had enough of seeing his friend turn his back on another, got onto the ring apron, as Victory warned him to stay out of it and shoved him. Havius attempted to get in the ring, but Victory delivered a 3rd brutal Super Kick to Havius’ head. He then got a chair, set it up, shoved Russell’s head into it, and double stomped him off the top rope. He offered no explanation to the fans, and left the ring. Russell came to, as Havius helped him up and both men went to the back presumably looking for answers. We have tried contacting Victory since this incident with no luck.
6.) “The American Bulldogs” Jon West & Mad Dog McDowell defeated “The Heroes For Hire” Jimmy Rockwell & Zach Thompson. The Heroes were their usual selves, joking around and making fun of The Bulldogs and the crowd, but showed their mean streak, and cornered Jon West early in the match. Mad Dog was finally able to get tagged in, and the Bulldogs once again hit their Fall Away Slam/ Moonsault Combination to get the win!
7.) Hype Gotti defeated Preston Maxwell. Gotti has been back here and there since retiring a few years ago. It was plain to see that he has the itch again. And he went all out with Preston Maxwell on this evening. These two men threw everything they had at each other. Highlights include suicide dives, german suplexs, exploders, piledrivers, jumping DDT’s and much more. Maxwell, for all his trash talking earlier, couldn’t get the job done, and after Hype’s signature Gory Bomb, he was able to get the 1,2,3 and the victory. After the match, he explained to the crowd that while he was away, nothing felt as good as getting in that ring and entertaining does. He said he’s got one more run, and he was putting his name in the hat for the Phoenix Challenge in July. The winner of that match gets a shot at the PWP Heavyweight Champion in August.
8.) Matty Star defeated “Showtime” Bradley Charles in a No Disqualification Match to win the Pro Wrestling Phoenix Heavyweight Championship. Matty came out as serious as can be, and stared SBC down during his entire entrance. As soon as the bell rang, they went at it, exchanging blows. SBC bailed out, and disappointingly, let the count run out and lost the match by Count Out. Star got on the mic and said that there was no way he was letting the fans go hope disappointed and asked for the match to be restarted under no disqualification rules. SBC refused, until Matty offered up something of his own: if he lost, he would never wrestle in PWP again! The match restarted and these guys took each other to the limit! Star went all over the armory throwing SBC into the wall, slamming his head on the ring and on chairs and nailed a beautiful Asai Moonsault! These two men proved why Pro Wrestling Phoenix is the best professional wrestling in the area! Charles got the advantage, and had Matty up for his “Long Kiss Good Knight” maneuver, but then set him down and went to grab chair to inflict even more damage! His plan backfired however, and Star was able to nail a Super Kick and become a 2 time PWP Heavyweight Champion! This marked only “Showtime” Bradley Charles second loss ever in PWP.
Unfortunately, however, his reign was to be short lived, as Ryan Slade along with his manager Axel Greece came down to the ring and cracked Matty with the Canadian Flag! Slade grabbed the mic and announced he was cashing in his Anytime Anywhere Contract!
9.) “Simply Ravishing” Ryan Slade w/ “Manager Supreme” Axel Greece defeated Matty Star to win the Pro Wrestling Phoenix Heavyweight Championship! In what seemed like a replay of February, Slade brutally powerbombed Star, and made the cover, but Star kicked out at 2 and 7/8th’s much to the fans delight! For the next few minutes these two exchanges moves and Matty was able to nail his Top Rope Falcon Arrow! Greece distracted the referee however and it was enough for Slade to grab the title belt and nail Star with it, to get the victory and become the new champ!
