Last Saturday night (Oct. 19th) at the Hickory Grove Banquet Center in Rochelle, IL, NAPW (North American Pro Wrestling) made its second appearance in downtown Rochelle. This was a benefit for the Rochelle Fire Dept. Some of the firefighters and their families were in attendance. Nice to see Eric from Hickey's and his posse return to view NAPW action. A young man that sat behind me named Dave was the NAPW fan of the night. Attendance was around 100 fans. A little down from the last show but the action was up.
Sutton Williamson was the Master of Ceremony or our lovable ring announcer. Getch and A.J. Lewis were announced as the referees for the evening. Tickets were $10 and fans over 21 could enjoy an adult beverage at the bar.
1. Pretty Boy Floyd pinned Joey Britain.
This wasn't the best opening match but it was alright. Britain's manager was in the ring just as much as he was. The flashy style of Floyd saved this match. An impressive sun-set flip off the top rope won the match for Floyd.
2. Machine over Jay Kross.
This was the Battle of the Bulls. Two big, beefy Hulks locking up. It was an enjoyable match. Nothing fancy but a lot of chops, punches and thunderous slams. Machine used the tights during a roll-up to win.
3. Texas Pete defeated Dave Rydell.
Rydell was a newcomer to NAPW but a regular in the Wisconsin area. His high flying style threw off Texas Pete from Eugene, OR. This match had back-n-forth action. A huge pop was when Rydell leaped off the top rope onto the arena floor nailing Pete. The match concluded when Pete used a reversal to the old Rude Awakening.
4. Mike Anthony wins with a sleeper hold over Jack Carpenter.
The best match of the first half of the show. The match opened with good classic mat action. The veteran Anthony controlled most of the bout but the crafty Carpenter almost won it a few times. The classic sleeper hold gave the former WCPW Champion the big win.
-15 Minute Intermission
5. Grin over Pauly Thomaselli in a Tournament Round Match.
* The returning Pauly Thomaselli replaced an injured Joey Rose. The winner gets a shot at the vacant title on December 14th. This by far was the match of the night. Grin scored the "W" with an F-5 with his opponent landing on Grin's knees.
6. Anthony Antonelli defeated Ruff Crossing in a Tournament Round Match.
The winner of this match will face Grin on Dec. 14th. There was a lot of action in this bout. The Italian star Antonelli was hurt going into this match but managed to score a huge upset.
7. Justice Jones & Aaron Xavier won the main event against Melanie Cruise & "Miss Natural" Heather Patera
This was a fun match for the fans. A classic guys vs gals. "Miss Natural" is the real-life daughter of Olympian Ken Patera. The skunk-faced Xavier used a foreign object to knock out Ms. Patera and score the pinfall. The fans cheered loudly after the match when both girls delivered a double power bomb to the men.
NAPW returns to Rochelle, IL on December 14th.
