North American Pro Wrestling returned to the Hickory Grove Banquet Center in Rochelle, IL last Saturday evening (Dec. 14th) for an exciting evening of pro wrestling. Representatives from Toys For Tots were in attendance. Many fans including yours truly donated unwrapped toys that will be donated to needy kids living within the county. With the weather being crummy and having snow hit in the morning time, a little over a hundred fans came out to warm up to NAPW action. A special shout out to:
-Marg and her son Anthony. They've attended all three NAPW shows in Rochelle and they are super fans.
-Eric from Hickey's in DeKalb and his posse. A rowdy bunch to liven any wrestling show.
-The DeKalb Walgreens Clan. Most of these guys were attending their first NAPW show and they had a blast.
Ring announcer "Fast Talk" Marty Fairlane opened the show with a holiday greeting to the crowd. Introduced was tonight's official A.J. Lewis. A special hats off to Lewis for being under the weather and still providing quality service as the lone official.
1. Jack Carpenter vs Dave Rydell
An impressive opening bout saw two up-n-comers. Carpenter sucker punched Rydell off the bat. A missed splash in the corner gave Rydell an opening to nail his opponent with a clothesline. Fast action to get the crowd motivated. A crescent kick by Carpenter laid out his adversary. Jack controlled the second half of the contest. Carpenter developed a cut near the left eye that slowed his momentum. An outstanding Tornado DDT and a suplex into a pinning position gave Rydell a huge win.
Winner: Dave Rydell
2. "Holy Man" William Jacobs vs EL Magnifico
Two rookies made their NAPW debut. The fans supported the luche libre wrestler with "Ole" chants. Jacobs made his entrance sporting a bible and attempting to preach his authority to the booing fans. The match started off good when Jacobs was flipped over the top rope onto the arena floor. El Magnifico nailed his opponent with an impressive dive from the ring. The match quickly went down hill when El Magnifico attempted a move from the top rope and slipped. Jacobs screamed "give me Strength" to the heavens as he nailed a DDT type slam. After the victory, Jacobs smashed a pinata over his fallen victim's head spilling candy all over the arena floor. The kids did enjoy that part of the match. Both rookies did show their flaws but will improve in time.
Winner: "The Holy Man" William Jacobs
3. To Crown New NAPW Tag Champions: Aaron Xavier and Justice Jones vs The Midnight Express Reboot (Ravishing Ryan Kross & "Pretty Boy" Jeff Luxon)
The top heel duo of Jones and Xavier were to meet the returning Midnight Express Reboot. The Reboot had a successful tour in Japan winning the Lions Cup. The title match began with Luxon scoring a quick two count on Xavier off a roll-up. Luxon controlled the action early on. Things got interesting when the two bulls from each of their respective tag team locked up. Kross was able to control Jones with a side headlock. The advantage quickly reversed to Jones & Xavier. Luxon was beat down during the second half but managed to make the crucial tag. Kross lifted Xavier up for about 45 seconds to deliver a thunderous suplex. Luxon rolled up Xavier only to receive a monstrous boot to the skull by Justice Jones. Xavier scored the pin winning the straps.
Winners: New Tag Team Champions Justice Jones and Aaron Xavier
* The new champs stole the Lion Cup belonging to the MER. When the re-match does happen, I'd personally love to see it under the rules of the old Texas Tornado match.
Intermission
4. D.O.J. (Department of Justice) & Sutton Impact vs Joey Rose in a Handicapped Match
Loud explosion by the fans as the local hero Joey Rose made his way to ringside to battle two adversaries. Joey controlled the match over Sutton early on. DOJ entered displaying more aggression then he has in the past. The partners did a great job of doubling on Rose throughout the bout. Kudos to Sutton for being able to turn a botched hip toss into a headlock. The official ended up disqualifying DOJ & Impact for double teaming after a count of five. A pissed off Rose caught DOJ with a dropkick and slapped that taste from Sutton's mouth.
Winner: Joey Rose by DQ
* Hats off to both DOJ & Sutton Impact for showing more confidence and aggression. Hope Sutton can turn the other cheek next time.
5. Derek St. Holmes, ESQ. vs Mike Anthony
This was one of the better matches of the night. A classic "Old School" vs "Old School". Nothing fancy. Wonderful mat action. Anthony began with a series of leg sweeps. The match was loaded with take-downs and side headlocks. Holmes managed to toss in the classic finger to the eye. Mike Anthony proved to be the better man that night by wining with a sleeper hold.
Winner: Mike Anthony
6. Pauly Thomaselli vs Anthony Antonelli for the vacant NAPW championship
* NAPW held an eight man tournament to crown a new champion. Originally it was suppose to be Antonelli against Grin. Unfortunately Grin couldn't make an appearance so ex-champion Thomaselli stepped in. He had never lost his title. The two friends shook hands beore the title bout.
The young Italian star Antonelli was escorted by the lovely, gorgeous, beautiful, sensational and hot KaDance Kelli. the beginning saw arm and wrist lock exchanges with a lot of fast-pace action. Both fan favorites received pops by the fans. Impressive to see the young Italian star hang with the veteran Thomaselli. The experienced veteran dominated late in the bout. Anthony missed a splash and received a vicious upper-cut. Pauly is dangerous when he controls a match. A comeback by Antonelli had him deliver an impressive F5.
The duo of Justice Jones and Aaron Xavier stormed out to ringside causing a huge distraction. The charming KaDance Kelli came in the ring and shocked the Banquet Center by double-crossing Anthony with a punch to the groin. The distraction and interference was enough to help Pauly regain the title he never lost.
Winner: New NAPW champion Pauly Thomaselli
