NAPW (North American Pro Wrestling) easily scored the biggest night of its company's history. Wrestle Tron was held at the Hickory Grove Banquet Center in Rochelle, IL last Saturday evening (May 31st). Almost 300 fans were treated to an exciting evening of entertainment. Many families attended the live event. Shout out to my new friend Monica Dupre. She is the sister of actor Tony Todd (Candy Man).
"Master of Ceremonies" Marty Fairlane opened the show by announcing the officials Getch and AJ Lewis. The Articulator Steve Kenton was on hand to add commentary.
1. Nate Quest vs William Jacob
Even though Jacob is a heel, there is something I like about this young up-and-comer. Quest was making his NAPW debut and is a rookie. A solid opening contest with the evil preacher controlling most of it. A surprise version of the spinebuster gave the rookie a huge upset.
Winner: Nate Quest
2. D.O.J vs "The Difference" Joey Rose.
The huge pops are always blasting for Joey. This has been one of the best feuds recently in NAPW. This was a very physical grudge match. It was great to see DOJ using the classic "rope burn" to rub Joey's face across the top rope. Rose almost scored the "W" with his version of a Northern Lights Suplex. DOJ would earn the biggest win of his career with a clothesline.
Winner: DOJ
3. El Magnifico & Ricky the Janitor vs Dave Rydell & "The Midwest Wonder" Collin Smith
The team of the lucha libre and the American janitor did not get along at all. Ricky was ranting that his partner would not steal his job as a janitor. This bout was OK. Dave Rydell did his best to keep the bout moving. Rydell always gives a good outing and deserves higher competition up the ladder. Ricky bailed on his partner costing his team the duke.
Winner: Dave Rydell and Collin Smith
4. Jack Carpenter vs TNA Legend Shark Boy
Huge applause for the NAPW return of the great Shark Boy. "Bob the Builder" chants echoed throughout the building causing a huge distraction to Carpenter. Shark Boy did his signature moves including the classic biting his opponent on the a**. The crowd was really into this match. Everything came to a crashing halt when DOJ appeared and clotheslined both participants.
Winner: A Double Disqualification
5. Vic Capri vs Grin
A very good match between two terrific veterans. The crowd lost interest at times. I think the last match tired them out and plus it was almost intermission time. There was a lot of back-n-forth action. Tough to choose a winner. Capri eventually tapped out to a version of a reverse dragon sleeper.
Winner: Grin
INTERMISSION
6. Hardcore Craig and Pauly Thomaselli vs. Ravishing Ryan Kross and "Loverboy" Jeff Luxon, The East/West Express
This was easily one of the best matches of the night. Non stop wrestling action. Match was loaded with physical and power moves. The opening minutes sported classic mat action between Luxon and Thomaselli. Luxon would pin Craig to end the bout.
Winners: The East/West Express
7. The NAPW Tag Team Champions Aaron Xavier and Joey Brittain vs "He's All That" Steve Boz and Colin Cambridge
* Aaron Xavier and Justice Jones are the champions. Brittain substituted for Jones who was at a WWE house show in Springfield, IL as one of Adam Rose's entourage.
Great to see the B-O-Z wrestle for NAPW. The challengers controlled most of the title match. BOZ had too much experience. Aaron Xavier, the weasel that he is, blasted Cambridge with the belt and scored the pin.
Winners: Aaron Xavier and Joey Brittain
8. NAPW Heavy Weight Champion "The Italian War Horse" Anthony Antonelli vs Mike Anthony
This was a very good title match. Mike Anthony, the former WCPW title holder, easily dominated most of the bout over the young champion. The Italian star was out of his element when it came to the mat action. Antonelli would never give up and a huge elbow off the ropes kept him in the game. A stunning tornado DDT allowed the champion to squeak a massive victory over the challenger.
Winner: Anthony Antonelli
* Mike Anthony would cheap shot the champion after the title match.
9. The Main Event: Falls Count Anywhere Hardcore Match
NAPW Star Machine vs the Former ECW, TNA & WWE Great Tommy Dreamer
This was easily the match of the night. There was a lot of hype about this match and this match delivered the goods. Action spilled from the ring to the floor and all over the area. The back wall area also saw some action. Weapons like chairs, garbage cans, sheet tray and the classic Kendo stick all came in use. The fans were in heaven over this hardcore match. Machine pulled the major upset by pinning Dreamer with a vicious spinebuster. Tommy tried to nail Machine with his Kendo stick but was tripped into a chair. Awesome match by both competitors.
Winner: Machine
-Hats off to the entire NAPW roster for making Wrestle Tron a success.
-NAPW returns to Rochelle, IL on Saturday, August 30th
-I sat down with Tommy Dreamer before the show for a brief interview. Will be posting that soon. Check the Chicago pro section of this website.
-Congrats to D.O.J and Machine on scoring huge victories in their respective careers.
-Congrats to El Magnifico for going 0 and 4 in Rochelle. He's starting his own streak.
Everyone have a good summer!
