NAPW (North American Pro Wrestling) put on its first show since the very successful WrestleTron back in May. The Hickory Grove Banquet Center played host last Saturday evening (August 31st). A respectable crowd of 130 fans came out for a fun evening of pro wrestling. Considering DeKalb was holding its annual Corn Fest and a couple other events being held in Rochelle, that wasn't a bad turn out. The fans were quiet early on but became more vocal as the show progressed.
The fans were greeted by new ring announcer "Eileen". First there was the lovely, sexy and hot-looking commissioner KaDance Kelli, now we have the beautiful, gorgeous and flirt-full Eileen. The new announcer was sporting blonde hair with pink highlights. She did a very good job and was able to get the crowd involved. She introduced official AJ Lewis as this evening's sole referee.
1. "Holy Man" William Jacobs vs Nate Quest.
This was a re-match from last May's WrestleTron. This was a fast-paced match between two youngsters that gave each other many hard shots. Jacobs nailed an impressive swinging neck breaker that did not get the job done. The bigger Quest scored with a big power slam and defeated Jacobs for the second time.
Winner: Nate Quest
2. El Magnifico vs "The Difference" Joey Rose.
The masked lucha libre has yet to earn a "W" in NAPW. Rose entered the ring acting like he wanted to be somewhere else. He stepped outside and took a 10 count by Referee AJ Lewis.
Winner: El Magnifico
* Rose took the mic saying that he deserved better competition. He also wanted to settle his feud with DOJ. Joey announced he'd be in the Jack Carpenter vs DOJ match scheduled later in the evening and make it a triple threat bout. Rose also announced that El Magnifico now had to face "Icepick" Vic Capri.
3. El Magnifico vs "Icepick" Vic Capri.
The lucha libre attempted to host a dance contest. The tough veteran Capri clotheslined his opponent almost out of his boots. Capri dominated the majority of the contest. The "Icepick" caught his opponent flying off the ropes to deliver an impressive suplex. A lucky roll-up by the masked Magnifico scored a huge upset. Two in a row!
Winner: El Magnifico
4. Jack Carpenter vs DOJ (Department of Justice) vs "The Difference" Joey Rose.
This particular match began to motivate the crowd. DOJ was double-teamed from the start by the two faces in this bout. Carpenter and Rose worked like a team until the pinfall attempt came and they turned on each other. DOJ came back with vicious clotheslines and became too over-powering for his opponents.
Winner: DOJ

5. Dave Rydell & Colin Smith vs Justice Jones and Aaron Xavier.
NAPW's top heel team of Jones/Xavier continue to dominate the tag team division. The popular veteran Rydell and rookie Smith made a good team. The youngsters at ringside got involved as the chanted "Cheater" towards Jones throughout the bout. Smith nailed a swanton bomb late in the match that earned a mighty pop. The weasel-like Xavier would conclude the bout with his version of the brainbuster on young Smith.
Winners: Justice Jones and Aaron Xavier
6. TJ Steel vs Grin.
Commissioner KaDance Kelli introduced TJ Steel as her new contender. Steel was physically built. The bizarre antics of Grin threw Steel off and Grin dominated a majority of the match. Kelli tried to get involved and was shoved off the apron by Grin. Steel scored a huge upset by spearing and delivering an F-5.
Winner: TJ Steel
7. The Main Event: NAPW Heavy Weight Champion "The Italian Warhorse" Anthony Antonelli vs Mike Anthony vs Machine.
This was a very good main event. Three different styles. The popular champion has a high-flying offense. The respectable veteran in Anthony has classic mat action. The brutal Machine, fresh off his huge victory at WrestleTron over Tommy Dreamer, added a ground-n-pound style. The champion was double-teamed throughout most of the match and took a beating. A surprise small package on Mike Anthony saved the title reign.
Winner: "The Italian Warhorse" Anthony Antonelli.
-Hats off to NAPW roster and staff for another great show.
-NAPW debuts in Markham, IL on Sept. 6th and returns on Sept. 13th to Rochelle, IL for a benefit with two steel cage matches. Please check the upcoming show section of this website or Facebook for more info. Unfortunately, I will not be attending these two shows. Would love feedback from any of the fans who attend either show.
-Before the show last Saturday, I sat down with NAPW star Dave Rydell for an interesting interview. Hope to have it posted within the next two weeks.
