ScW Prestige '06 Preview
Unsanctioned Match Non-Title Match ScW Champion "The Shug" Shane Alatorre vs. Tyler Black
And thus, it comes to this.
More than seven months after their first heated confrontation at EPIC II, and going back to long before that first one-on-one encounter, Alatorre/Black III is a rematch that has much more behind it than on the surface.
But before things are made too complicated, the spark and the catalysts should be explained: Alatorre, long tired of being in Black's shadow, turned on him in mid-2005, abandoning his long-time friend prior to his ScW Title match against champion Danny McKay. Despite all odds, Black defeated McKay and cemented his status as the new champion by spray painting the ScW Title black. Alatorre's initial strike in their eventual war was a misfire, but Shane was not finished yet. He continued to be the thorn in Black's side, even after Black's decisive pinfall victory at EPIC II. Alatorre then found himself aligned with the right man, ScW owner Chris Angle, who seemed to be sick of seeing Black as the ScW champion, feeling that a different man should represent the company.
Angle then threw down the gauntlet in front of Black, sticking him in the annual Elevation tournament event as the defending champion--a tournament Black won, once again defying all odds to defeat a well-rested Alatorre--and generally making Tyler's life a living hell until Angle finally had his master plan: Tyler Black vs. Mike Venom, in a match where if Tyler Black was not victorious, he would be fired. Referee Jake Ryder S.E. was knocked out, never seeing the nefarious interference on the part of Shane Alatorre and Chris Angle resulting in Ryder's final three count of Venom pinning down Black's shoulders. Just like that, Tyler Black was gone, fired in a matter of seconds, and the ScW Title was then held up before Angle quickly handed it over to Shane Alatorre, declaring him the new ScW Champion at the tail end of 2005.
For a time, it seemed that Angle and Alatorre were intent on keeping their reign of terror intact for as long as possible. At Winter of Discontent, Angle was intent on making sure the discontent was at 11 when he announced that every man who lost their match on that night would be fired on the spot. Angle stayed true to his word throughout the whole show, leading up to the main event. This match, however, introduced a strange new wrestler named Secret Ninja #12, coming to the aid of the Two-Man Army to avoid being in a handicap match against the Lady Thrillers and Shane Alatorre. The end of the match came when Ninja #12 got the duke with a small package driver...
...and then unmasked himself to be none other than Tyler Black!
A furious Chris Angle demanded to know what Tyler Black was doing here when the man was fired not too long ago, but Black made it clear to Angle that he doesn't call the shots anymore; there's a new sheriff in town.
A man none other than the recently fired Jake Ryder S.E, rehired for the position of commissioner and also the bringer of good news: The ScW Committee has ruled unanimously that Tyler Black's firing is null and void, and Chris Angle's tenure as owner will be suspended. Ryder wasted no time making an even bigger splash, announcing that Black would finally get his one-on-one rematch against Alatorre at Prestige.
But things have changed dramatically. After the events of Redemption, Tyler Black watched his co-NWA Midwest Tag Team Champion Nick Stonewall get carried to the back, dripping blood along the way. His attention then turned to Alatorre, as the situation suddenly found itself infinitely more deep. In a heated explicit verbal battle, a furious Alatorre finally vented once and for all his sickness of being in Black's shadow, always having his girls stolen away by Black, ever since they were in the barn on the outskirts of Davenport. Black knew it had to be settled, but he didn't want it to be any kind of normal encounter. He asked Commissioner Ryder to make the match unsanctioned by Scott County Wrestling, meaning that there would be no rules--and also the ScW Title would not be on the line. Ryder wanted to know if Black was sure that he wanted this, knowing that it was not for the belt he cherished so dearly, but Black declared that it was more than just the title now. It had gone to a level more personal than any other rivalry seen before in ScW.
And just like that, Commissioner Ryder declared it so, that on March 31st at Prestige, the previously scheduled ScW Title Match between "The Shug" Shane Alatorre and Tyler Black was now to be unsanctioned by Scott County Wrestling, and thus the title would not be on the line. The ScW Committee has stated that they are absolving themselves of any graphic consequences inflicted on either man during the course of the match, proclaiming that they cannot be held responsible despite the match being held in the same venue as the rest of the card on the 31st. Commissioner Ryder is also currently sitting down with the ScW referee staff, discussing who should be designated to referee this match, as they will not receive any reimbursement for their work.
Win, lose or draw, Shane Alatorre will still be the ScW Champion when Prestige comes to a close on March 31st. But will he be a champion with honor and triumph? Or will he be a champion once again bested by the better man?
ScW Tag Team Titles Match Three Way Dance ScW Tag Team Champions The Midwest Mafia (Tony Scarpone & Robert Anthony) vs. Lady Thrillers (Mikey Lovemuffin & "#1 Playa" Woody McGuire) vs. The Two-Man Army (Mississippi Madman & Tank Roberts)
Two of these six are not like the other, but make no mistake that the Lady Thrillers have earned their way into this three-way dance at Prestige, if only by being a constant nuisance to the other two teams--more specifically the Two-Man Army.
Ever since their debut as a team, Lovemuffin and McGuire have made it clear that they're too sexy for their shirts or whatever other random piece of clothing they happened to be wearing at the time, but they've also made a subtle statement that they're not too sexy for the ScW Tag Team Titles by being a general presence in the tag team division. They have only recently been considered as actual contenders, and even then as perhaps longshots as best when put in between the towering tandems of the Mafia and the Two-Man Army.
But what they lack in size they make up for in overall dastardly deeds. Not only have they done nefarious things to the Two-Man Army, distracting them and costing them bouts, but they've also stolen Miss Jenny from the dismantled Geek Squad, holding her hostage in their team as she acts out to earn her freedom, only to find herself more confined than ever.
If there's any wildcard in this match, it's Miss Jenny. Tripod was a non-presence at Redemption, but will his presence even be able to stop the ravaging woman inside of Miss Jenny waiting to be unleashed and bring upon misfortune to the tag champion-hopefuls? Or will the men in the Thrillers be able to keep her in check as they always have; perhaps even use her against her will for their own benefit as they have done in the past.
Robert Anthony is attending to some family business. That's the last we've heard of the co-champion as he was also a no-show at Redemption, leaving his partner Tony Scarpone to fend for himself against the Two-Man Army. Separate, it may be true that they are outmatched against these two teams, but together there is no denying their awesome power. Their stylized form of brutality has brought them the gold over Aisle 9, arguably the best tag team in ScW history, and now it brings them to this match where they find themselves finally facing down the Two-Man Army, after months of avoiding them. Don't let their cat and mouse chase games fool you, however: The Mafia is a much stronger candidate to walk out of this match the victor than you may realize.
And that brings us to the Two-Man Army. This odd couple of big men have found their niche in the tag team division, simply being a force to be reckoned with. Former ScW Champion Tank Roberts brings strength and experience in big matches to the table, while the Mississippi Madman will more or less just bring the STRENGTH. It's easy to pick these two as the favorites in this match, but one should remember that in the grand scheme of things that they're fighting a 5-on-2 battle (6-on-2 if you include Miss Jenny). The Mafia doesn't necessarily want the Lady Thrillers to win, but they DEFINITELY don't want the Two-Man Army to win, and the same goes for the Lady Thrillers' opinion of the Mafia. Any smart better would place their bets on the Thrillers or the Mafia, as any smart better would tell you that the Thrillers and the Mafia are going to isolate the Two-Man Army and make them a non-factor before going after each other to decide the champions.
Because the Two-Man Army couldn't be strong enough to fend off a lopsided attack from four of the current best in the tag division.
...Right?
The 3rd Annual Prestige Rumble A 30-Man Over-The-Top-Rope Battle Royale to Determine the #1 Contender for the ScW Title
Wrestlers to Watch in the Rumble
Nathan Ironside
Despite him being on and off the last few shows, fans are still predicting that Ironside may come out on top in the Rumble, if only out of determination to finally get the ScW Title shot he has been destroying a handful of the ScW roster for. Ironside's ultimate fighting conditioning will also come into play here, as entrance number doesn't really seem to be a factor for him--he could draw #1 and perhaps go all the way. There really is no telling what will happen with Ironside, however, especially considering he was not present for Redemption.
Taylor Made
Could this really be the year for Made? Well, it could be the year for ANYBODY. Taylor has been getting some attention recently however, especially with an eye-opening upset over former ScW Champion Danny McKay. Made has a solid following amongst the ScW crowd, but whether or not that can translate into a victory remains to be seen. His inexperience with big-time matches and inexperience in general may come back to bite him if he's not careful.
Nevin Knoxville/Steven Youngblood
Grouped together for two reasons:
1) Out of any tag team that has the potential of participating in the Rumble this year, these two are the most likely to team up and abandon the "every man for himself" motif that has been a staple of past Rumbles. 2) Both men are former ScW Champions and are very accustomed to the big match situation.
B-Buff
The Glamazon won't be the only strong big man participating in this year's Rumble, but it's likely that if he is to enter in the last half of the match, he will be a force to be reckoned with. Make no mistake, B-Buff is a mentally disturbed individual. He personifies "every man for himself," and under the tutelage (brainwashing?) of T-Buff, B-Buff finds himself with no common friendships in this match. His crush on Danny Daniels may be incredibly creepy, but depending on their relative entrances in the Rumble, it may be a non-factor. The other participants would be wise to gang up on B-Buff and toss him before they are tossed themselves. B-Buff is the Quad-City Champion for a reason. Let us not forget last year's Rumble, which saw Keith Wholesale de-wigging B-Buff, only to be destroyed by the Glamazon shortly after, the eventual spark of the Buff-E-Nuff/Aisle 9 revival.
Nick Stonewall (Marek Brave)
At the conclusion of 2005, it was a no-brainer to choose Stonewall as an early favorite for the upcoming Rumble match.
Things have changed.
Danny Daniels' presence in ScW as Stonewall's trainer has taken Nick to the brink, pushing his every limit past the breaking point. Daniels has been adamant in administering Piledrivers to anyone who he feels deserves them, whether it be Nick's partner Keith Wholesale or Nick himself, one piledriver leaving him in a neck brace. But Nick's never-say-die spirit wins over all, bringing him back time and time again. It's the same spirit that drove him, one day after being beaten to a bloody pulp by Danny Daniels, to win the NWA Iowa State Championship at NWA: No Limits, once again wearing the crimson mask.
Nevertheless, Stonewall's title victory in Muscatine is a footnote in a long list of horrible circumstances that have befallen the former ScW Quad-City Title. He lost the aforementioned title--thanks to Danny Daniels, of course--to B-Buff, and the heartbreaking loss to Danny Daniels in an attempt to prove himself has brought Nick to this point. Marek, Nick, whatever you want to call him, if there was ever a time to prove himself worthy of the undying devotion these fans give him, it's on March 31st at Prestige. Unfortunately, the deck is stacked up against him unless he gets an excellent entry number. Danny Daniels, B-Buff...friends are few and far between for the former ScW Tag Team Champion, and if he has to fight through too many of him, old wounds may open and the blood may flow again. The most that Nick can hope for is a good entry number and a big tube of Neosporin. Everything else is luck.
Danny Daniels
In a short span of months, Daniels has made his impact on ScW after a few guest appearances earlier in ScW's past. Daniels will do whatever it takes to get the victory, and as no doubt the most experienced man in this Rumble, he's got a lot going for him. He's on a hot streak, defeating Nick Stonewall in the middle of the ring and leaving him bloody and beaten at Redemption, Daniels seems to be unmatched in terms of experience compared to the other participants. Whether or not experience is a factor remains to be seen, but Daniels has the potential to enter anywhere in the Rumble and make a big splash, and may be a little underappreciated in terms of being a favorite to take the #1 contendership home.
In addition, Commissioner Jake Ryder S.E. is expected to make an announcement in regards to the aftermath of ScW owner Chris Angle vacating his position as owner and pulling all of his money out of Scott County Wrestling. Commissioner Ryder made it clear to the fans after Angle stormed off with his assistant Marcus A. Pobanz that Angle was the main source of funds for ScW, and the Committee will have to find a suitable replacement soon or suffer heavy financial losses in the upcoming shows. The Committee remains tight-lipped in regards to searching for a new owner, neither denying or confirming various rumors swirling around about the vacant ScW ownership.
This all started at Winter of Disconent, as former head referee Jake Ryder S.E. was hired as the new commissioner, and announced that the committee had unamiously come to a decision to suspend ScW owner Chris Angle for an indefinite period of time due to his actions of the past few months, firing many big stars including Nick Stonewall and Tyler Black. Ryder brought all of Angle's firings back, and they sent Angle and assistant Pobanz packing, the latter driven into the mat with a big sitdown powerbomb from Tank Roberts.
Everything seemed to be all fun and games until Redemption rolled around and Angle once again made an appearance, making it clear that he can't be suspended--he is the owner, after all--and decided that he doesn't need ScW and it's ingrateful fans and wrestlers anymore, as he's taking his ball and going home. Fans perhaps don't understand the levity of the situation yet, but with a rise in ticket prices on the horizon, they will likely soon understand the high cost of Angle's departure.
