The night opened with a match a year in the making as Matty Fitness battled "Sensational" Sean Cruz. These two set the tone with a very exciting bout, in which Cruz picked up the win. Afterwards, the two showed respect for one another with a handshake.
Up next was a 6 man tag featuring The LONR's & Brett Young taking on the team of Joey Daniels, Leslie Ray, & Donnie Peppercricket - who were "accompanied" by the giant yellow rubber ball that has made it's presence known at recent events, whose name is apparently Stanley......yes we're serious! In the end, Brett Young hit Ray with a top rope leg drop, gaining the win for his team. After the match, Stephen Saint attacked Donnie, luckily his partners made the save before too much damage could be done. What were the motives for Saint's attack? That remains to be seen.
Preston Maxwell then took on "The Big Hurt" Abu Colossus. Maxwell gave it his all, but in the end, Abu's roll of dominance in PWP continued.
Next was the first of the 3 huge main events, as The Dark Circle defended their PWP Tag Team titles in a double strap match against the Pride & the Passion. This match was simply brutal! Highlights included Chris Havius & Zac James trading sick chair shots, a catfight between Adrenne Rose & Deidre, and a senton bomb from Tyler Pride onto Damien Van Horn, who was beneath a pile of chairs! In the end, Zac & Tyler used their straps to tie Van Horn to the ring post, then back in the ring, they hit their step-up enziguri combo on Havius, then put another strap in his mouth, while they each pulled back on one end. Havius tried to break free, but to no avail, and was forced to tap out. That's right, we have NEW tag team champions - The Pride & The Passion! However, this was hardly the end, as once the new champs had returned to the locker room, Van Horn confronted Havius about his tapping out, berating him and going so far as to slap him across the face. With that, Havius had had enough, he yelled at Damien to remember who brought the killer back out of him and brought him to the top, and told him to know his place. Havius then made his crucial mistake of turning his back on Van Horn, who attacked him from behind. Van Horn proceeded to put Chris' head through a chair, and drive him into the turnbuckle head first 3 separate times. Havius was holding his throat, and spitting up blood, when Van Horn went even further, putting a box cutter to Chris' neck - thankfully Zac & Tyler came back to stop things - however, what happened next was a horrible accident - Damien tried to attack the new champs with the box cutter, when Damien was hit with one of the title belts, driving the box cutter into Van Horn's left eye. Damien's wife dove into the ring, as Damien screamed in pain, meanwhile, Havius was helped to the back - Damien was immediately taken to the hospital, and Havius was as well shortly thereafter. We will keep our fans updated on the condition of these two as more information becomes available.
After intermission, we saw an incredible 3 way dance, between Hype Gotti, Dingo, & "The Rebel" Jeremy Wyatt. These 3 men went to amazing lengths to pick up a victory, but in the end, it was Wyatt who came out on top.
Up next was the PWP Heavyweight Title match, as Michael Strider challenged "Babyface" Tony Cortez. These two went toe to toe, but in what most consider a huge upset, Strider went for a sunset flip, while Cortez dropped to his knees, hooked the legs, and scored the 1-2-3. This was Strider's first ever loss in PWP. After the match, Strider got on the mic, and said that after nearly 2 years of being undefeated and dominant in PWP, if someone had to beat him, he was glad it was Cortez. He said like him or not, Tony Cortez is someone the fans should be proud of, and that he's the perfect representative of Pro Wrestling Phoenix.
And finally, in one of the craziest matches in PWP history, Vic Victory and Jaysin Strife ended their war in an I Quit Match. This match saw Vic sustain everything Strife threw at him, even giving him the Beijing Cocktail off the second rope through a table! As the two brawled on the floor, Vic sprayed Strife's leg with lighter fluid, and set it on fire!!! Strife struggled to put the flames out, but did so, without saying "I Quit" - Vic decided that was enough, threw Strife into the ring, and drenched him with the lighter fluid from head to toe - then as he approached with the lighter, Strife finally screamed the words, "I Quit".
This was an incredible night of action, but PWP is already moving forward to our next event, which will be Friday night, September 14th.
Details will be announced very soon, but we can announce that:
"Babyface" Tony Cortez will defend the PWP Heavyweight Championship
