Razzlin' Rick's Rapid Review -
Minnesota Championship Wrestling Battleground -
Cottage Grove Armory - 9-1-07
First of all I would like to thank all the wrestlers who worked their butts off to give us an exciting show. The crowd was about 65 to 70. Rob Page was referee for the last four matches.
1. According to what was written on their outfits, this match was Lil Tiger VS All Star. This match was two fairly new wrestlers going through their basic moves until Team Connors ran out and attacked both wrestlers.
2. 8 Man Tagteam Battle. Team Connors (Lorenzo Connors, The Asylum, Tommy "Spiderbaby" Saturday and Josh Calisto) VS Team Slade (Sean Slade, Zero Kincaid, Lover Kid and Johnny Riddlin). Right after Team Connors broke up the first contest, Team Slade ran out and charged the ring to start the tagteam battle. When a person gets pinned, he leaves his team and the rest continue wrestling. Team Connors suffered the most losses and that team ended up with only The Asylum while Team Slade only lost one member, making the final matchup 3 against 1. Asylum clotheslined all three of his opponents but in the end, all three Team Slade members piled on top of The Asylum to get the pinfall.
3. Mike Rollins VS Leonard Literacy. Rollins looks good and he should be one of the area's better wrestlers in a year or two. Literacy did not waste our time tonight telling us how stupid we are. Thank goodness. In one big spot, Literacy leaps off the top rope but gets caught with a Rollins dropkick which leads to a pinfall by Mike Rollins. After the match Literacy nails Rollins with one of his books.
4. Tag Team Street Fight - 101 Proof (Venom and Bret O'Brian) VS Malikite, Ryan Stone and Mike Stanley. Since Stone's match opponent, Trent Jones, didn't show tonight, Stone was put into this street fight. If Stone gets pinned, he loses his Battlenet championship. This match becomes a 3 on 2 matchup. This may have been MCW's wildest, bloodiest match to date. 101 Proof came out with all the weapons. Venom immediately attacked all his opponents with a kendo stick. Venom threw Stanley on the garbage can, flattening it, of course. Bret nailed Stone with a HARD chairshot. Stone nailed Bret with the cookie sheet. Then Stone nailed Bret with a chair, splitting O'Brian's head open right in front of me. Venom also got busted open. Stone was busted open too and I heard he may have had to go to the hospital for stitches. They even used a staplegun as a weapon. Venom and Malikite carried the match outside the Armory where they ended up fighting on a car in the parking lot. The car ended up with a dented hood and a broken windshield. I later found out the car belonged to Ryan Stone. (Gee, they must really hate this guy.) Back inside the building, Venom eventually pinned Malikite for the win for 101 Proof.
Intermission. They had to mop all the blood off the floor.
5. I guess you could say the last three matches featured some of the best "trained" wrestlers in the area.
Arik Cannon VS Nate Bash. This match was exciting with lots of switches and good mat wrestling. I enjoy this kind of match. Cannon really knows how to lock up an opponent using both his legs and arms. Bash landed a huge DDT on Cannon which I thought may be the end of him in this match, but not quite. Bash connects with a kick to Cannon's head, then he climbs to the top rope, dives off and flattens Cannon. Cannon later returned with a kick to Bash's head and he gets the pinfall. The crowd boos and yells "Cannon Sucks".
6. The Prophet VS Craven Knight. As good as I thought the Cannon/Bash contest was, this one was even better. This is 2 out of 3 falls. The first fall seemed like it would never happen. The two opponents were really hammering each other for the longest time until Knight gained the first fall. Knight returns quickly to try and get a quick second fall but The Prophet is not going to let that happen. Knight climbs to the top rope to attempt a dive but Prophet climbs the ropes to stop the attempt, and he throws Knight off the top rope onto his back. Prophet attacks again and gains the second pinfall. One each. Knight tries to use a chair but referee Rob Page takes it away. Knight rolls up Prophet with his feet on the ropes but he only gets a 2 count. Both men run the ropes and they crash with a big double cross-body block. Knight tries a frogsplash but misses. Prophet hits a frogsplash for a two count. After a final flurry of moves, Prophet gets the 3rd fall.
7. MCW Championship Match. Champion Kleck Michaels VS Ben Sailor. Sailor comes out first doing a fast 40 yard dash around the entire arena. These two men demonstated intense mat exchanges. Michaels dove off the top rope to receive a Sailor dropkick. This is the second time I saw this move tonight. When Sailor was outside the ring, Kleck made a spectacular dive onto Sailor through the second rope. There were other dives over the ropes this evening, but this particular dive just seemed so much more daring. Back in the ring, Sailor did a big backflip off the top rope onto Michaels for a 2-count. After a few more spectacular moves, Kleck Michaels pins Ben Sailor to retain his MCW Heavyweight Championship.
All in all, this was a very good night of wrestling action. MCW's next show will be "Halloween Holocaust" on Saturday night, October 27th. Mark it on your calendar so we can put over 100 fans in the seats for these hard working wrestlers.
