heres a more detailed review again taken from the ROH message board:
Ring of Honor presents "Man Up" on PPV! Live show review by Brian Jaffe
ROH taped their 3rd PPV, "Man Up", from the Frontier Fieldhouse in Chicago Ridge, Illinois! I had front row tickets, and the crowd was red hot. The first thing I noticed was that the guard rail in front of me was not attached to the other guard rail. I was worried about that, but I figured it wasn't a big deal.
Pre-Show: Ernie Osiris and Silas Young defeated Bobby Dempsey and Rhett Titus. Silas Young looked impressive, but Bobby Dempsey was the most over in the match by far. Rhett titus is hillarious. He grabbed Silas for a suplex, and yelled "THE SEXIEST SUPLEX". Unfortunately, it was blocked, so we'll never know just how sexy that suplex was. Silas pins Titus with a headstand on the top rope dropped into an arabian press Unreal. Young was impressive, would like to see him get another main show shot.
The show started with Naomichi Marufuji coming out. They did a 10 count, and began the PPV. As Dave Prazak and Lenny Leonard ran down the card, a fan in a black ski mask jumped the rail, grabbed the microphone, and yelled "AGE OF THE FALL IS REAL, WE'RE HERE" before getting tackled. Sweet.
Match 1: Four Corner Survival: Nigel McGuinness defeated Claudio Castagnoli, Naomichi Marufuji, and Chris Hero (With Larry Sweeney, Bobby Dempsey, Tank Toland, and Sara Del Ray). This match may actually be the best opening contest in ROH History. All four men beat the living hell out of each other, and the crowd ate it up. Chris Hero got thrown into the crowd right next to me, on top of a few fans, and yelled at them "I'm sorry, I had no say in the matter!". Hero rules. He and Castagnoli brawled right there, until Nigel McGuinnes hit a CROWD DIVE! Unreal. Marufuji looked great. Hero kept running from Castagnoli, but Claudio finally got him after a while. All four men traded finishers, until Hreo and Marufuji spilled to the floor and Nigel decapitated Claudio with the Jawbreaker Lariat for the 3. AMAZING Opening match, set the pace for the rest of the night.
Match 2: NRC vs Resilience Series: Rocky Romero defeated M-Dogg Matt Cross with a head kick. Ok match, but I really feel that Matt Cross could be bringing so much more to ROH. It seems like every match, he comes out, wrestles for a few mintues, then loses. He looked good in this match, but Romero was just one step ahead all the time. Crowd chanted "Chicken Legs" at Romero, playing off of the little girl who called Romero Chicken Legs a few months ago. Romero is the most believable heel on the No Remorse Corps, because you really believe he's a cocky jerk. Romero with a Tajiri-Style buzzsaw kick for the win.
Match 3: NRC vs Resilience Series: Austin Aries defeated Davey Richards with the 450 Splash. Good match. I want to mention that while people are thinking Davey is doing Benoit stuff to get heel heat, I think it's more of Davey paying tribute to the career of his favorite wrestler, not the final days of his life. Aries and Richards trade a lot of stiff strikes and moves, and bust out their signature moves to try to win. Richards hit this really strange arm trap DDT, but Aries shockingly kicked out. Aries hit the Heat Seeking Missile, which is always a wild move to see, cause he just NAILS the guy. Aries wins with a kick to the head/Brainbuster/450 Combo to tie the series up.
Match 4: NRC vs Resilience Series Final: Roderick Strong defeated Erick Stevens with the Gibson Driver. Another incredible match, solidified Stevens as a star. I never thought I'd say this, but somebody went chop for chop with Roderick. Erick Stevens looked like an absolute star tonight, and he and Strong just beat the hell out of each other. Stevens "Choo Choo" running splash is amazingly over, and he followed it up with a TKO for a believable near fall. Strong busted out all his signature moves, but Stevens kept kicking out. The crowd began getting madly into the match as the two men battled on the top rope, where Strong hit a crazy Super Razors Edge, then a backbreaker, then the Gibson Driver for the win. Crowd applauded and chanted "Erick Stevens" after the match. Great match, all about Stevens looking like a star.
Match 5: ROH World Title: Takeshi Morishima (c) defeated Bryan Danielson via REF STOPPAGE. Great brawl, great title match, crowd did NOT like the finish. Danielson wore an eyepatch, and looked suspiciously like the Best Pirate in the World. Previously, Morishima had promised he wouldn't go after Danielson's eye. The match started with Danielson running in with an elbow, and Morishima shoving him off and smacking him RIGHT in the eye! Crowd did NOT like that, and boos Morishima. This match was a great fight, with Danielson pulling out a lot of MMA stuff to try to beat Morishima. He got the big man up for a top rope backdrop, but couldn't put him away. Morishima came right back with a lariat that not only turned Danielson inside out, but flipped his eyepatch up. He followed up with the Backdrop Driver, but Danielson kicked out! Danielson managed to get Morishima into the MMA Elbows, but Morishima fought out, Backdrop Drivered Danielson again, then elbowed him in the eye repeatedly until the referee stopped the match. The crowd did NOT like that, and chanted "Bull ****" loudly. Morishima grabs his belt and leaves, and Danielson gets a "Thank you Dragon" chant for wrestling with one eye tonight. Danielson really is the Best in the World.
Match 6: ROH Tag Team Titles, LADDER WAR: The Briscoes (c) defeated Kevin Steen and El Generico by grabbing the belts. Nothing I say here can do the match justice, it was one of the best matches I've ever seen live. They brawled in the crowd for a while, before getting the ladders. There were WAY too many spots for me to remember, but I'll try to name as many as I can: Briscoes double Hiptoss Throw El Generico into a ladder in the corner, drawing a "Holy ****" Chant. Kevin Steen shoves a ladder over whileJay was climbing it, sending Jay crashing into another ladder. El Generico hits a Yakuza Kick into a ladder onto one of the Briscoes. Mark Briscoe hits a Shooting Star Press onto a ladder onto El Generico. Kevin Steen powerbombed Mark over the top rope onto a ladder propped up between the ring and guard rail. In an amazing spot, Mark jumped THROUGH a set up ladder to hit the doomsday device. Both Briscoes were busted open heavilly by this point. A GIANT ladder was brought out, and a smaller ladder was propped up between each corner and the rungs of the ladder. Kevin Steen grabbed Mark Briscoe, and hit the Package Piledriver while standing on one of the propped up ladders, then Jay hit the Jay Driller on El Generico on the other one! INSANE!!! Jay and Steen end up on top of the ladder, with Jay knocking Steen off into another ladder! Jay reached up...and couldn't get the belts down, because Sinclair had tied them in WAY too tight. Oh well, not a big deal. Jay struggles a bit, and gets the belts down to a big pop. Match has to be seen to be believed, and is probably going to end up being the Match of the Year. But the fun did NOT stop there.
The sounds of a woman screaming played over the PA system, as 10-15 guys in black ski masks moved to the front row and began pounding it. Suddenly, Jimmy Jacobs (wearing a white coat and holding a cane) hit the ring, followed by Tyler Black! The crowd popped HUGE as they faced off with the Briscoes...when NECRO FREAKING BUTCHER hit the ring, and the crowd went insane. Black/Jacobs/Butcher beat down Briscoes, then they tie up Jay to the device holding the belts up, and hang him upsede down above the ring. Jay was POURING blood badly, and Jacobs grabbed a microphone and stood under him, taking a blood shower! Jacobs cut an amazingly intense promo about how he wanted love, but when he finally heard "I love you" from Lacey, he realized that love doesn't mean anything. He then SHOVED LACEY, which is a little insane given his obsession with her. He talked about how Necro Butcher didn't fit the ideal of beauty that people had, and how Tyler Black was talented, but lost. He called the Briscoes Drunkards, and said that tonight, a revolution was starting. They are the Age of the Fall. He then looked up and opened his mouth, drinking some of Jay Briscoe's blood, then spitting it on Mark. The crowd chanted "Boring", but that was just because that's what you chant at heels...in reality, the promo was one of the best I've ever seen in ROH. The visual of Jimmy Jacobs talking as blood poured onto him was one that will go down in history as the craziest image in ROH. Crowd chanted 161 a bit, then Jacobs/Black/Necro left. Insane segment, amazing segment.
Intermission. Naomichi Marufuji signed autographs, and I bought a ticket for ROH's return to Chicago Ridge on 12/1.
Match 7: Top of the Class Trophy: Mitch Franklin (c) defeated Alex "SUGARFOOT" Payne. Sugarfoot is amazingly over in Chicago, the crowd loves him. Mitch Franklin is so small, it's a little scary. Basic student action, crowd loves everything that Sugarfoot does. Mitch wins with a very cool move, going for what looks like a Mysterio Bulldog (Wheelbarow Bulldog), but rolling through it into a facebuster. Generic student action.
Match 8: SHIMMER Women's Athletes Exhibition Tag Match: Daizee Haze and Amazing Kong defeated Sara Del Ray and Lacey when Daizee pins Lacey. Amazing Kong is awesome, and over like crazy. She no-sold a lot of offense, and just bludgeoned Del Ray and Lacey with power moves. This was one of the best womens matches I've ever seen. Kong looks like a star, I'd love to see her back in ROH for more womens matches. Kong and Daizee win with a Heart Punch/Powerbomb/Splash combo on Lacey. Crowd loved Kong.
Match 9: BJ WHitmer and Brent Albright defeated the YRR of Kenny King and Chasyn Rance by pinning (I think) Rance with a double spinebuster. The YRR are absolutely terrible, and should never set foot in an ROH ring again. They bought down Whitmer and Albright. King was looking good, then slipped on the top rope and crashed and burned dangerouuuus. Whitmer looks just like Steve Corino, and Albright dyed his hair red. Odd. They beat YRR, mercifully it's over. After the match, Whitmer and Albright said that their team, along with Pearce, is the Hangman's 3. Crowd chanted "Change Your Name". People have been saying there was a "No more Stables" chant, but I only heard about 3 people chanting it.
Match 10: The Age of the Fall (Jimmy Jacobs, Tyler Black, and Necro Butcher) vs Irish Airborne (Jake and Dave Crist) and Jack Evans goes to a no contest when Necro punches out the referee. Started as Tyler Black vs Jack Evans, but changed midway through. The match wasn't a "match", but an out of control brawl on the floor. Remember that guard rail in front of me that wasn't secured? one of Irish Airborne (I don't know which one) got thrown into it, and the guardrail swung right into my gut. Knocked the wind out of me for a second and hurt, but I'm fine. All 6 men brawl the entire time, and look great doing it. By the way, Tyler Black has the greatest trunks in ROH History. Black hits the Small Package Driver, then Necro punches out the referee. This was all about making Age of the Fall look like they're out of control, and it worked.
Match 11: Main Event: Delirious defeated Matt Sydal (with Larry Sweeney) with the Chemical Imballance II. A good match, but it suffered because the crowd was just SO burnt out from the rest of the show. This was Matt Sydal's final match in ROH, and he definitely impressed. Sydal has grown so much as a wrestler the past few years, I wish him the best as he goes to WWE. When the bell rang, Sydal expected Delirious would run around crazy, but he didn't...he just got up, pointed at Sydal, and they started wrestling. Delirious is sporting a hobo beard. Funny moment: a fan yelled "DON'T DO STEROIDS" at Sydal, who (while he was recovering on the floor) gently said "they're illegal". Funny. Both men pulled out all their signature moves for two counts. Larry Sweeney got into an argument with Todd Sinclair, and got shoved. Sweeney is one of the best managers in ROH. In the end, Delirious hits Sydal with Chemical Imballance II (Double Pumphandle Sitout Driver) for the win. They shook hands, and the crowd chanted "THANK YOU SYDAL". No speech by Sydal, he just waves and walks out.
Overall, this will go down as one of the wildest nights in ROH History. A LOT of violence, a lot of storylines being built, and several insane matches, including the ladder match which is match of the year. It will also be remembered as having one of the craziest segments in ROH History, as Jimmy Jacobs took a blood shower while revealing the Age of the Fall. This is a MUST order when it comes out on PPV, the Ladder match is worth the price alone.
