Skitz Jones here once again dudes and dames with the results from last night's show- SLAMFEST!!!
Before the show began, the company took a moment to honor the memories of the victims of the recent tragic events at NIU and Lane Bryant, and to send thoughts and prayers to their families with the traditional 10 bell salute.
Then it was time to start the show, and what better way to open things up than with a Tag Team Title match between Outta Control and Diego Corleone and Adam Evans w/ Nick H.?
Joey Cece and Evans got the match under way with a little display of sheer power and strength by Cece, and with a tag to Jimmy Blaze the due then tandem chopped Evans right out of the ring, where he retreated to the arms of his manager for a group hug and some consolation before he climbed back in. From there it was Diego in with Blaze, who lit "the Strangler" up with wicked chops in the corners. Both members of Outta Control worked the constant tags to keep each man fresh as they worked over Diego, but soon one turn away by the ref was enough to turn the numbers game sour as Diego and Evans double teamed Cece, and even Nick H. got involved (surprise surprise) keeping Cece isolated on the wrong side of the ring away from partner Blaze until Cece found an opening to hit a slam on Diego and make the hot tag to Blaze. "The Psychotic" Jimmy Blaze cleans house keeping both oponents off their game until Blaze and Cece hit a tandem spinebuster for the pinfall, resulting in Outta Control leaving Slamfest with their Tag Titles intact. Can't go wrong predicting an Outta Control victory, and it proved to be even more true in this dominant showing last night.
After Outta Control collected their belts and celebrated their way to the back- the newest member of the POWW roster- interviewer Billy Whack came out to the ring to interview the losing team. He made a fool of Adam Evans outsmarting him, then turning down Diego's request to talk- instead setting his sites on Nick H. who has had a fire of controversy following him with his antics against the fans at ringside. As Nick H. promised to put his team on the winning track and turn things around in POWW, he also turned his back on Whack who used Nick H.'s own methods against him, pouring water on him and his team, chasing them from the ring.
After that it was on to more action, as Kanoa stepped up to take on "He's All That" Steve Boz. The way I saw it, Boz would be able to use Kanoa's somewhat garbled mental status as a major advantage to make short work of "the Flyin' Hawaiian"... but whatever has turned Kanoa's head, has obviously turned his heart to- as he picked up the win, but not without a certain amount of questionable tactics. Kanoa came to the ring with Melanie in tow. Boz caught Kanoa with a flying head scissors, for which Kanoa joined the fans in showing their appreciation and respect. And Boz returned the favor as Kanoa got Boz with the hurricanrana. Boz took control and worked on breaking down the left arm or Kanoa, calling for silence from the crowd before laying into Kanoa with deafening blows that echoed from the rest rooms to the concession stand, to the locker rooms in the back. Kanoa took the punishment though, and brought it right back with a bit of his own, capturing Boz in the ankle lock- removing the aerial game from his arsenal. Boz freed himself catching Kanoa in the head with a series of kicks, before climbing to the second rope and launching off with a side kick that left both men down. As Boz got up to take control again, Melanie climbed the ring steps distracting Boz, and setting him up for the schoolboy roll-up by Kanoa, who solidified the pinfall with a handful of tights- leaving Boz in complete disbelief.
The next match was scheduled to be X-Con vs Terry Allen for the World Championship title match later tonight against Brandon Bishop. But X-Con, ever the tactician, decided "why get beat up climbing a ladder when in March?" he's got not only a Tag Title match with Jamie Dundee as his partner... but he's also got a World Title shot at whoever happens to be the champ at that time. I predicted Con would pull this one out, but he's afraid of heights, so he left it come another time. Not the bravest move in wrestling, but it is one of the smartest.
Match 4 was a return engagement between Wild Mayhem and American History Next. These two teams have thrown down numerous times in recent weeks, and each time AHN have gotten the better of Justin James' boys. Speaking of that piece of work, Justin James made no new friends in EGV tonight, as he taunted his way through the crowd, with Wild Mayhem pulling him away and apologizing their way to the ring. AHN came out, and it was Steve Stone and Mikey Wild to start things off. Stone kept in control to begin with, and tagged in Hardcore Craig, allowing for hard chops and knocking Wild down to a sitting position in the center of the ring, where he recieved not one, but two pairs of boots to the face courtesy of the dropkicks of AHN. More chops were issued as Stone sent Matt Mayhem from the corner to the floor, and then continued to work over Wild. Wild Mayhem managed to come back with double back elbows, and then slinging Stone to the ropes where he made a blind tag to Craig, who then surprised Wild Mayhem with a double clothesline. The action continued with all four men in the ring, but when Wild started to look ahead and the action began to settle, Justin James passed in the brass knuckles, which Wild looked at quizically, and then handed off to the ref much to Justin's dismay. After that Wild Mayhem kept things firmly in their control with quick tags keeping Craig from reaching the corner. Just when it looked like Wild Mayhem was about to put Craig away, Mayhem ascended the turnbuckles, Wild tried to set Craig up, but Craig reversed, catapulting Wild into the corner, causing Mayhem to crotch himself on the top turnbuckle. Craig nailed Mayhem with a high impact top rope superplex, made the tag to Stone who then took control until Wild caught him with a modified DDT, but Hardcore Craig broke up the pin, and then it was all hell broken loose as all four men hit the ring. Stone attempted a moonsault, but no one was home, Craig hit a big spinning TKO, but was then knocked away from the action, leaving Mayhem open to try the sunset flip on Stone. Stone tried to fight to stay on his feet, but a Wild kick sent him to his back, and for the first time Wild Mayhem got the 1-2-3 on American History Next.
After the match AHN each took the mic to give respect to their opponents but capping off their statements with the need for Wild Mayhem to drop Justin James. James took the mic and claimed HE made the team, and HE brought them the win, at which point Mikey Wild took the mic and gave his respect to AHN before the three men bickered their way to the back.
It was then time for the Regional Title match next between Champion Chris Cairo and challenger Trevor Blanchard. The match was give and take with no advantage for either man in the first few exchanges, but that seemed to all turn suddenly when Blanchard hit the mat and rolled out of the ring clutching his knee. Everything stopped as the crowd sat stunner while Blanchard was escorted towards the back. Cairo followed for a bit before his disbelief caught up with him, and he turned his back- giving Blanchard the opportunity to come running back down the aisle and assault Cairo. As the crafty cheat continued to beat on the Champ, he tied him up in a figure four leg lock around the ring post, the ref began counting for him to release the hold, which he did, then returning to the ring locking in a second figure four inside the ring. Cairo wouldn't quit however, and when Blanchard went for one more leg lock Cairo caught him and rolled him up for the pin attempt, but he only got a 2 count. Limping on a pained left leg Cairo returned to his feet, but Blanchard soon had him back down on the mat. Both men traded blows but a standup fight just isn't the M.O.B. way, and both men wound up outside the ring, where Blanchard again got the advantage. This match however, couldn't be won outside the ring, and Blanchard shoved Cairo back in, but the ref counted 10 before Blanchard himself could get back in, resulting in a count-out victory for Chris Cairo.
Blanchard and Master J both unhappy with that result made their displeasure felt as they both began to beat down "the Lost Soul". Melanie ran out from the back to make the save, but was cut off before she could by Cairo's tag partner in the Future-Stars Kanoa. Kanoa held Melanie back as they both watched Cairo fight his way out of the double team assault, before they left the ring, Chris Cairo standing alone to celebrate his victory.
Match #6 was the Falls Count Anywhere tag match between Pure Evil, and the team of Thunderfoot and Jamie Dundee. There was so much action happening throughout the venue that it took three video cameras to capture it all. I was on one of those camera, so you'll have to forgive the lack of play by play notes. What I can tell you though- is all four men started at the bell, and didn't stop until it was all over. There was no rest, especially not for the wicked, with Thunderfoot and Dundee taking it to Dehok and Scott Spade in a big bad way. There was nowhere safe in the building as the action went from the ring, towards the announcer's platform, and up the ramps and stairs to the merch table. Flashbulbs were poppings as fans pressed against the security to be close to the action. Spade was sent flying through the line of roadcones set up near the restrooms. Thunderfoot went for a pin ON the ring steps. It was a nonstop flurry of action. As all four men made their way back to the ring, it was Spade and Dehok with Dundee surrounded in the entranceway... but Thunderfoot slid into the ring, climbed the turnbuckles and flew through the air catching both Spade and Dehok, sending the men to the ground where Thunderfoot and Dundee scored the pinfall. This match was intensity set on fire, and all four men tore down the house.
There's only one match that could've follow that intensity, and that was the Ladder Match for the World Title. Terry Allen and Brandon Bishop have no love lost, and their matches have just been fuel for the fire that is the M.O.B./Outta Control feud. Neither man is a stranger to the ladder, having competed in the 3-way dance with X-Con for the title at WrestleRage. The crowd was firmly in Terry Allen's corner with a "Bishop Sucks" chant starting the match off. The men let each other know they were there to go with some solid snap arm drags, resulting in Bishop going to the outside to converse with Master J. before coming back in, only to be locked up by TA who looked as though he was going to wrench Bishop's arm right out of it's socket. Bishop gets away and calls for a timeout, then backing TA into the corner, and leading the ref away for Master J. and Jade to wishbone TA on the ringpost. Bishop lands some clubbing blows on TA and goes for the pinfall, only to be reminded that it's a ladder match. Frustrated the Champ went to the outside to get the ladder, but as he went to slide it into the ring, TA caught him with a baseball slide, and metal met face for the first time in the match, but certainly not the last. TA took the opportunity to climb the ladder, but Bishop caught the hardware with a dropkick, sending TA crashing to the mat. Bishop then tries his luck, but TA pulls him down. Ramming Bishop in the corner with the ladder, TA then went to the outside climbing the turnbuckle, but before he could finish his setup, Bishop caught him, and got him up and overhead to crash land back first on the ladder. Both men used the ladder effectively as a weapon looking to brutalize each other, and wear the other man down to get the time to climb to the belt, but neither man was giving up without a fight. As they each tried to climb to victory, TA nailed a big stunner on Bishop from the ladder down to the mat, but before he could capitalize, Trevor Blanchard came running out. Joey Cece was in hot pursuit, and the two men tangled. TA saw another opportunity to make the climb, but Blanchard got away from "the Pitbull" and stopped him again. At this point Deputy Commish Ruff Crossing came out and declared that all members of M.O.B. and Outta Control were barred from ringside, wrestlers, managers, even the valets- and if they didn't stay away from the match, they would be fired on the spot. As everyone cleared from the ring and Nikki and Jade fought their way to the back, it was just the two men, Bishop and TA left to win or lose this match on their own. Bishop took an early advantage following all the distractions putting TA not once, but twice into the ladder face first, knocking him out cold. Bishop went to the outside grabbing an even bigger ladder from under the ring, pausing only to choke TA with a boot before setting it up and climbing. TA caught up in time to push him off and begin making the climb himself, but Bishop followed him up, and suplexed TA off the ladder, clipping his head on the ring ropes and both men crashed to the mat, leaving him dazed. As Bishop began preparing for another climb, TA grabbed a chair from outside the ring, and planted Bishop with a DDT right onto the furnature. TA braced the smaller ladder against the bigger ladder adn the ring post making a bridge of sorts, using it as a stable platform with which to begin his climb again. Bishop went up the other side, and the men unloaded on each other with a flurry of hard shots, leaving both men reeling. Bishop grabbed TA by the hair and dragged him down to the mat, but TA turned it around sending Bishop face first into the bridge knocking him flat, then catapulting Bishop into the ladder again from underneath. Bishop regained control briefly when he tried to choke out TA, but TA got him with a back drop onto the ladder now laying on the ground. Bishop was knocked to the outside, giving TA enough time to climb the ladder and grab the belt, making Terry Allen your NEW POWW WORLD CHAMPION!!!!!!!!
As the lockerroom cleared out Jimmy Blaze, Joey Cece, Thunderfoot, Jamie Dundee, Ruff Crossing, Steve Boz, and Chris Cairo all coming down to celebrate with TA in the ring, it was one man, X-Con who stood outside the ring and without saying a word gestured to Terry Allen, letting him know that he'd be coming for him. Jimmy Blaze said a few words of congratulations to Terry Allen, and thanked the fans for coming out to close out the night.
Afterwords at the POWW afterparty at T-Woods, there was another highlight of the night for one lovely couple, as Eric Henderson took a knee and with the whole room looking on, proposed to girlfriend Amanda Materese, to which she gave an emphatic yes, and the two embraced to the applause of all those dining in the room. Congrats and future happiness to the both of them.
What a night it was for POWW Entertainment, thanks to all the fans who came out, and as always, we'll see you at the shows!
