What an amazing night it was in Woodstock! It was an event full of great action, returns to the ring, Title defenses, and a sudden betrayal No One saw coming!
The whole thing kicked off with a returning M.O.B. member- Tommy Capone taking on “Electric” Eric Freedom. Both men were working the crowd for all they were worth, and the crowd responded in kind, clearly showing their favor to the Froot Loop throwin’ throw-back Freedom. Tying up, Capone backed Freedom in to the corner and delivered some stiff shots, but Freedom retaliated with a dropkick that sent Capone to the outside where Jade consoled him. Capone seemed reluctant to return to the ring, and for good reason- because when he did, Freedom came at him, locking him up and working over his left arm, hyper extending the elbow. Capone tried numerous times to pick Freedom up and slam him to break the hold, but Freedom had it locked in tight and was not letting go. Capone wasn’t going to submit in his POWW return, and Freedom changed up his tactics, going off the ropes to deliver a devastating head butt to the nether regions of Capone, but before he could capitalize Trevor Blanchard came to the ring and distracted the ref until Freedom went to the outside to give chase. Unfortunately for Freedom, Capone had slid out to hide around the corner and clotheslined him to the floor. When both men returned to the ring Capone and Blanchard took turns distracting the ref while the other choked Freedom mercilessly, but Freedom managed to reverse into a sunset flip for the pin attempt, followed by a backslide which also came close but wasn’t quite enough, so Freedom set up for the Hippie Hippie Shake. Blanchard got back on the apron to distract the ref, and after Freedom swiped at him and turned around he found Capone back on his feet in time to deliver a super-kick for the pinfall. The winner of this match- Tommy Capone.
Up next was the increasing heated battle between American History Next and Pure Evil. Steve Stone and Dehok started the match with both men running the ropes, crossing paths in the middle a couple times before Stone just stepped back into his corner and watched in amusement as Dehok continued to ricochet himself back and forth across the ring before the effort winded him and he slowed to a stop with Stone meeting him in the middle of the ring, holding his hands out for him to stop, and then pointing for Dehok to “look up” which he did, giving Stone the opening to slap him square in the face. Scott Spade and Hardcore Craig each received tags from their teammates, but when Spade tried to pull the same trick on Craig, Craig caught Spade with a stiff shot. Dehok tagged back in, as did Stone and AHN delivered some tandem chops, and then sending Dehok to the mat, once the demon sat up he caught a face full of tandem dropkicks. Stone continued the chops to Dehok, then turned and decked Spade in the corner, but when he turned around, Dehok was waiting and crushed him with a huge belly to belly slam. Tagging Spade back in, the men of Pure Evil kept Stone isolated from his corner. As Craig grew increasingly frustrated and tried to come to Stone’s defense, the ref stopped him from getting to the other side of the ring, and Spade took the opportunity while the ref’s back was turned to choke Stone with the chain. Stone managed to hit a swinging neck breaker and finally get to his corner for the waiting outstretched hand of Craig who tagged in and cleaned house with back elbows. All four men in the ring now, and when Dehok was knocked down hard, AHN got Spade up, and sent him right back down with a clothesline power bomb for the pin. Your winners- American History Next.
Trevor Blanchard was back again in the 3rd match of the night, taking on the newly embraced by the fans- and lovin’ it, Matt Mayhem. Since Wild Mayhem kicked Justin James to the curb, the two men have found a new confidence, and definitely new reaction to the crowd, as Mayhem on his entrance to the ring saw him hand off his goggles to a young fan at ringside to great cheers and appreciation. As the match began Mayhem was backed into the corner, where he slapped Blanchard full in the face, but Blanchard, bigger, stronger, and definitely unafraid to bend (or break) the rules a little used the hair to accentuate his strength advantage over Mayhem and threw him hard across the ring. Following up with a slam on Mayhem, Mayhem snapped to enough to turn it around and hip toss Blanchard and then issue a slam of his own. Blanchard slowed the pace with a brief duck to the outside, and when he came back in, he lit Mayhem up with some stiff chops to the chest, but Mayhem retaliated- locking up the left arm, and then working Blanchard to the ground, proceeding to drop the knees on the wrenched arm, and then locking it up again. Blanchard tried once to roll out of the hold unsuccessfully, before finally getting loose on his second attempt, then dropping a knee to Mayhem’s head, sending him to the corner, and again issuing a series of chops. Mayhem tried to turn it around slingshoting Blanchard to the corner, but as he charged to follow, he caught a boot to the face. When Blanchard sent Mayhem to the corner the next time Mayhem bounded off the 2nd rope and hit the cross body, but before things could turn in his favor, Blanchard hit more chops and elbows to the head. As both men went for the clothesline, both were knocked down hard. Mayhem got up first and hit a high back elbow, followed by a sleeper hold, a clothesline and a slam later it looked like Mayhem had it sewn up, but going to the top rope for the elbow drop, he crashed hard as Blanchard moved out of the way, then nailed a DDT for the pinfall. Winner- Trevor Blanchard.
Last week in Iowa saw the crowning of new Tag Champs in X-Con and the returning Ruff Crossing. Of course, their win was in many ways tainted by X-Con using Jimmy Blaze’s kendo stick while the ref was knocked out. After that match, Outta Control requested a rematch, and Ruff Crossing, disappointed in how the match was won gladly accepted. Before the bell was sounded Jimmy Blaze and Joey Cece grabbed the belts away from the current Champs, laying their claim to be the rightful holders of the Belts, and holding them up for all the crowd to see. X-Con and Crossing went back and forth about which one of them would start the match, before reluctantly X-Con went to the corner, and it was Crossing and Cece to kick things off. The two locked up, but Cece over powered Crossing, and sent him crashing to the mat, and Crossing ducked to the outside to regain his composure before coming back in. Locking back up again, Crossing starts working the left arm of Cece, wrenching it hard, but Cece again demonstrates his strength and turns it around, Crossing though not to be outdone reversed back and snagged Cece in a headlock. X-Con tagged himself in knocking down Crossing before Cece nailed him with a clothesline. X-Con slapped Crossing to tag himself back out, and Crossing stepped in and told Cece that he wants Blaze in the ring. Blaze comes in, and after the two men shake hands Crossing headlocks Blaze, slinging him over his hip hard to the mat, but Jimmy manages to position enough to lock Crossing in a head scissors, Crossing counters back to the headlock, and Blaze fights his way to the ropes to break the hold. Crossing chops X-Con hard to make the tag, and Blaze takes the big man off his feet with a hip toss before tagging Cece back in. Cece hit’s a suplex, and then Blaze tags back in and Outta Control hit a tandem shoulder tackle, but Crossing comes in and breaks things up before the pin can be counted. Blaze announces that it’s “Quiet time” for X-Con, and gives him the two hand smack to the chest. Blaze backs up to charge at X-Con in the corner, but X-Con ducks and tags Crossing in. Crossing now in control of Blaze, and the unlikely partners begin showing some actual team work making quick tags in and out and keeping Blaze trapped in their corner. X-Con continues pounding on Blaze until Blaze manages to reverse and catch X-Con in the eyes, but Crossing tags in before Blaze can capitalize, and goes right for the former Tag Champ. Blaze turns things around though with a catapult that puts Crossing face first over the turnbuckle and into the ring post. Crossing manages to escape the pin attempt though and returns to slapping X-Con for the tag. X-Con with a big leg drop, followed by some back elbows to the corner, but when he went to charge at Blaze, Blaze got the boot up and caught him right in the jaw. Delivering a 2nd rope clothesline, Blaze took X-Con off his feet, but both men were showing signs of wear and struggled to get to their feet, but both managed to get to their corners and make the tags, and Crossing hit pump handle drivers, but wasn’t able to make the pin when he got distracted seeing X-Con holding the kendo stick again. When Blaze reversed the pin and rolled Crossing up, X-Con nailed Blaze with the kendo to break the pin, and end the match in a DQ. Outta Control win the match, but X-Con and Ruff Crossing keep the belts, which left Crossing less than thrilled as he tore into X-Con and said the belts were meaningless if they couldn’t win them the right way, warning X-Con to watch his back, Crossing along with Blaze and Cece backed X-Con out of the ring.
The 5th match of the night saw the members of the Future Stars facing off for the Regional Title. Kanoa won the shot at the belt by beating Trevor Blanchard last week in Iowa. Chris Cairo and Kanoa have spent a lot of time together in the ring, and as a result had each other well scouted, and began the bout evenly matched with hip tosses and arm drags being traded back and forth, then Cairo launched Kanoa with a monkey flip, and Kanoa returned the favor with one of his own, back and forth the two men went with sunset flips and bridges and pin attempts, still with both men coming out evenly. Cairo managed to score a swinging head scissors and a cross body for the pin attempt, but it was too soon to put the “Flyin’ Hawaiian” away. Kanoa then issued a head butt and a flying punch to Cairo in the corner, capping it off with a swinging neck breaker for the pin attempt. Cairo kicked out, and then suplexed Kanoa which left Kanoa dazed and hung up on the 2nd rope, setting Cairo up to drop a leg on him duck to the outside and sock him one in the face, wrapping things up with a leg drop to Kanoa who was now hanging his head off the apron. Back inside Cairo pulled Kanoa from the corner which dropped him hard on his back, but Cairo only got a 2 count. As Kanoa struggled to his feet Cairo went for a cross body, but Kanoa ducked it, lifting Cairo to the top turnbuckle and hanging him up in the tree of woe, sending that lawn dart-like dropkick right to Cairo’s breadbasket. Picking Cairo up again Kanoa scoop slams and goes to the top rope for a swanton which he hit with authority, but it still wasn’t enough to put the Regional Champ away. So a fall away slam came next, some more head butts, and as he left Cairo in the corner to go for the big flying knee, Cairo ducked out of the way and Kanoa smashed his leg hard against the turnbuckle. Cairo scored a Russian leg sweep, and then began targeting the obviously injured leg of Kanoa, wrecking the ankle. Kanoa tried one last ditch effort setting up for the samoan drop, but Cairo slid around to roll Kanoa up for the pin. After the match Cairo offered his hand to his tag partner, but Kanoa slapped it away and rolled out of the ring limping to the back.
The announcement was made that on April 26th in Oswego TNA Knockout- Traci Brooks will be in attendance.
The POWW Royal was up next with the stipulation that the winner of the Royal gets to pick their match for April 5th in Fox Lake. Joey Cece and Tommy Capone started things off, and both men took it to each other in an all out slug fest. The next entrant was Hardcore Craig, who made quick work of both Capone and Cece tossing them both out. Trevor Blanchard was the next man in, and the two traded chops back and forth before Craig got the advantage. Dehok came in next and went right for Craig. Matt Mayhem was next to come down, followed by X-Con. X-Con brutally took it to Craig. Kanoa came down next, still favoring that injured ankle and as the action continued X-Con and Dehok sat down in the corner to watch it all play out. Steve Stone was the next entrant, and Dehok ducked under the bottom rope and slid under the ring. Both members of American History Next went after their former opponent Mayhem, chopping him viciously in the corner. Cairo was the next man down, and then Dehok slid back into the ring. Blanchard was thrown out, followed by Mayhem. Scott Spade was the next in, while Blanchard despite being eliminated grabbed Kanoa’s injured ankle and racked it against the ring post. AHN took it to Dehok in one corner as the Future Stars paired up against Spade and X-Con. Kanoa was eliminated and needed assistance from security to make his way back to the locker room. X-Con eliminated Cairo, leaving X-Con, Pure Evil, and AHN all in the ring. X-Con and Dehok reprised their dancing that began in Iowa last week, before Dehok having X-Con distracted, sent him up and over the top rope. Dehok was then eliminated, and Spade looked like he was next as AHN was gearing up to clothesline him over the top rope, but Dehok pushed him out of the way and momentum carried both Stone and Craig up and over the top for the elimination, making Scott Spade the winner. Spade gets a mic and declares that April 5th he and Dehok want a shot at the Tag Titles, saying they’re the most deserving team in the company right now. Hardcore Craig grabs a mic and says American History Next deserve that shot more, especially given that they beat Pure Evil earlier that night. Nick H. then comes down to ringside and says that his men deserve a title shot, and wonders why they weren’t even booked on the show that night. Outta Control comes down next and Joey Cece on the mic says if anyone deserves a shot, it’s OC since they’ve not been fairly beaten for the belts yet. Jimmy Blaze takes the mic and says that Pure Evil will get their Title shot on the 5th, Spade won and there’s nothing he can do about that. But OC, AHN, and Nick H’s stable of Warm Carlos and Diego Corleone will have a 3 way dance to determine who the next #1 contenders are, and the winners won’t only get a Tag Title shot on April 26th- they’ll also get Traci Brooks as their valet!
The final match of the night was the World Championship rematch between Brandon Bishop and Champion Terry Allen, with the stipulation being that if Bishop couldn’t win this one, he’d never get another Title shot as long as Allen is Champ. Things kicked off with a quick heated pace as the two men traded moves, counters, and reversals so fast that I was unable to write down what was happening as it was happening, and just had to sit back in awe at the mastery these two displayed in the ring. TA scored a suplex, and went to charge Bishop in the corner, but Bishop got the boot up, following with a clothesline and a fist drop. Bishop taking the advantage put TA in a headlock, and when TA tried to fight out, Bishop demonstrated why they call him “Physical Fascination” and overpowered to sink the hold in even deeper. TA manages to turn and hit a back body drop, but Bishop shows his strength again, and slaps on the headlock a second time. Bishop then chokes TA against the ropes, and when the ref comes to break it up, Bishop got him to turn his back, allowing Jade to take over, but “Sexy” Sandra D chased Jade away. Bishop comes back over to continue raining pain on the Champion, a knee lift putting TA down in the corner. TA catches his wind though, and reverses, putting Bishop in the corner, hitting a flying clothesline, followed quickly by slinging himself from the apron over the top rope to a drop kick, and then a rolling senton from the outside over the top rope. TA went for the pin, but Bishop reversed it to a full nelson, wearing TA down. But TA showed his ring savvy dropping down to hit Bishop with a jaw breaker. With the crowd firmly behind TA, he rose to his feet and doled out a heapin’ helping’ of jabs, followed by a big right. Setting up for the Sharpshooter, Bishop manages to kick away from it, and heads for the top rope, TA catches him and sends him crotch first to the top turnbuckle, then climbs to the top himself and delivers an outstanding super-plex. After a 2 count, TA decides where one super-plex is good, 2 must be better, but Bishop throws him off, following with a top rope shoulder tackle. TA fights out of the Pedigree, and turns it to a Sharpshooter and Bishop quickly taps out. The M.O.B. runs out from the back and puts the beat down on TA, Sandra D comes in to try to make the save, but Bishop puts a boot to her, which brings Eric Freedom to the ring, chasing the M.O.B. away. As Freedom raises TA’s arm to the approval of the crowd, he then double crosses TA, driving him to the mat, then putting the Cranium Crunch on both Sandra D and ref Pee Wee Parella. Outta Control runs down to chase Freedom from the ring, where Freedom grabs a mic and declares that he’s sick of being treated like a curtain jerking jobber in this company. He’d beaten FORSAKEN for the World Title, and he’s going to do it again beating Terry Allen for his Title. Stating he’s done trying to win the approval of the fans, throwing Froot Loops and playing to the crowd, he doesn’t need them. Blaze grabs the mic and asks the fans if they want to see Terry Allen beat the hell out of Eric Freedom, then asks TA if he wants the match, and all respond that yes, they want to see it. Freedom trash talks the fans more, and then turns his attention to Sandra D saying she’s got no place being here, and should be home washing dishes and making sandwiches. Jimmy Blaze says April 5th, if he wants it, he’s gonna get it, Terry Allen and Eric Freedom for the World Title. Freedom heads to the back, but Blaze asks him to come back out and says he understands sometimes people just snap and go overboard, but that none of this has to go down this way if Freedom will just apologize. Freedom says there’s no way he’s apologizing, and challenges TA to go right now. TA accepts, and Freedom instead turns around and storms out of the venue.
So there it is, your winner and still Champion “Tenacious” Terry Allen will face off against “Electric” Eric Freedom for the first time in a World Title match on April 5th in Fox Lake!
I for one could never have seen this coming, but after everything that came out of Freedom’s mouth, and the despicable way he attacked not only Terry Allen, but also Sandra D and Pee Wee, I hope TA really takes it to him in Fox Lake, but if Freedom has really gone as far over the edge as it seemed this past Saturday, TA might just have his work cut out for him.
I know I say it every week, but it just gets more and more true every time- things are really heating up here in POWW Entertainment, and I can’t wait to see what happens next…
I’ll see you at the show!
