courtsey of Skitz M. Jones
POWW fans, if you weren't there last night, you missed a show like no other! Poww history was made last night when TNA knockout Traci Brooks met Melanie Cruise in tag team action to become the first women to do battle in a Poww Ring. But first....
Last night opened up with a continuation of the rivalry between Wild Mayhem, and the M.O.B. with newest member- Wild Mayhem's former manager- Justin James.
JJ and Trevor Blanchard came through the curtain first, looking a touch annoyed and checking their watches as Brandon Bishop followed a little ways behind. Wild Mayhem out next and it was clear who the crowd favored in this contest.
Matt Mayhem and Blanchard started things off, and Blanchard quickly unleashed chops to the chest of Mayhem, but Mayhem retaliated and got a tag to Mikey Wild. Wild battered the left arm of Blanchard, until he escaped to tag Bishop, but Wild stayed in control against Bishop as well.
The action continued with M.O.B. double teaming Mayhem, but the two argued over what offense to be using. It didn't make their offense any less effective though, as they kept Mayhem away from his corner and a much needed tag. It looked like things might be over as Bishop began to put Mayhem up by Mayhem countered with a sunset flip as Blanchard came in to break up the pin.
Finally Wild gets the tag and Wild Mayhem take out both members of the M.O.B. and Wild hits a 2nd rope crossbody on Bishop for the pin.
Afterwords the M.O.B. continued to argue, and Bishop turned away to walk to the back on his own, but Justin called him back and accused him of no longer being invested in the team, and told him that like the shirts say- "if you're not with us, you're against us" and asked him which it was going to be. Bishop answered with an emphatic "I don't know!" and stormed from the ring alone.
Next up your's truly Skitz M. Jones came to the ring to do a little shill for this month's magazine featuring Regional Champ Kanoa, which brought Eric Freedom to the ring. Anyone who's been paying attention to the boards here knows that I agreed to the bet that if Freedom beat Terry Allen on the 5th, he would get a cover and feature article in the POWW magazine. Upper management wanted me to run the Kanoa article first, but Freedom did win, and he WILL get his article and cover- next month. After a little back and forth, Freedom offered to let it go and shake hands. Foolishly I accepted, and paid the price as hit kicked me in the gut and followed up by planting me to the mat with the kryptonite crunch and laying into me until Terry Allen chased him from the ring.
The next match of the night saw Warm Carlos taking on Joey Cece. Shortly after the bell was rung, WC began limping and favoring his right leg. Unsure of whether to believe what he was seeing, Cece moved in tentatively and as Nick H stood in the corner drawing attention, WC snuck behind Cece rolling him up for a pin in under a minute of the opening bell, making it- as Nick H made sure to inform me- the fasted win in POWW history. But before anyone thinks Warm Carlos was just faking, the injury to the leg was legit, and it remains to be seen to what extent the damage was.
Chris Cairo and his partner for the evening Traci Brooks came out the the ring to address their opponents in their match later that night "Canoe and Melanie Skank"- as Miss Brooks so eloquently put it, and promised to kick both of their ***es.
Tag Team Champions Pure Evil minus their valet Taylor Made who was banned from ringside, faced off against challengers American History Next in the 3rd match of the night. Steve Stone and Dehok were the first two in the ring, and twice Stone tried to knock Dehok to the mat off the ropes, but Dehok brickwalled him on both attempts. The 3rd time however Stone hit a big shoulder tackle and the demon went down. After some chops and an assisted neckbreaker Hardcore Craig was in and Dehok escaped to make a quick pin to Scott Spade. Spade found himself in a bad way before too long however as AHN kept going with good quick tags keeping both men fresh and Spade isolated from his partner. A little Dehok distraction allowed Pure Evil to regain some control and with the ref looking away Spade used his chain at ringside to choke Stone. Stone managed a hot tag to Craig who put Spade down with a Michinoku driver and all 4 men took the action outside the ring, fighting out in to the crowd knocking out chairs and leaving the ref with nothing to do but begin the 10 count. As the ref was calling 10, Dehok slid into the ring and saved the match for his team, and with a win via countout, Pure Evil are still your Tag Champs.
Billy Whack came to the ring next to discuss the injury that befell former World Champ (2 times he'd like you to know) Ruff Crossing. The injury given to him by former tag partner (both of them former Tag Champs together) X-Con. X-Con brutally stuck it to Crossing with a chair to the previously injured right arm in their encounter last week. The two had won the Tag Belts as an unlikely duo in Dubuque Iowa last month, but the two men were less than thrilled about their partnership, and it finally came to a head when they lost the belts to Pure Evil on the 5th of this month. Whack asked Crossing if he'd be ready to take on X-Con, and if, after all of these injuries, if he should even be wrestling anymore- to which Crossing responded he'd be back in a few weeks, and X-Con should be the one asking if he's ready for Ruff Crossing.
X-Con came out for a return match against Gary the Freak in the next match, and the crowd was clearly behind the Freak, but X-Con didn't seem to care as he just over powered the smaller man. Freak hit a Thesz press to take the big man down however, and then followed it up with a full nelson-front russian leg sweep. X-Con would not be felled for long however, and he got right back to physically dominating the Freak. X-Con went for a scoop slam but the Freak managed to slide around and roll into a pinfall. The bell had barely sounded the end of the match before Ruff Crossing attacked until the refs backed him away telling him he needed to protect his arm and wait for his match.
It was Chris Cairo and Traci Brooks against Regional Champ Kanoa and Melanie Cruise in an intergender tag match for the 5th match of the night.
Kanoa and Cairo started things off and Cairo nailed 2 dropkicks right off the bat, before Kanoa slid out of the ring to regroup.
Traci tagged in and scored two quick pin attempts, but neither was successful, a sunset flip couldn't get the bigger and stronger Kanoa over at first, but a headbutt to the groin got her a 3rd pin attempt, but still the "flyin' hawaiian" would not be put away.
Melanie tags in, but before she can tangle with Traci, she tagged back out again claiming she had to stretch first. Kanoa proved to be too strong for Traci, and she tagged in Cairo to keep things moving. Cairo hit the Thesz press and hammered Kanoa with both fists, then hanging Kanoa over the bottom rope, dropping the leg over his back, sliding outside to deliver an uppercut, and continuing the abuse as he sent Kanoa back further into the ring. A tag to Traci and the two hit tandem chops on Kanoa, followed by a tandem elbow drop, giving up a 2 count. Kanoa nailed a tiltawhirl slam and tagged Melanie (warmed up this time it seems) who cut into Cairo with an elbow drop, leg drop, forearms, and a back elbow all in quick succession. As she taunted Traci, drawing the knockout to the ring and sending the ref over to keep Traci from interfering Kanoa and Melanie double teamed the "lost soul". Kanoa back in continued the abuse, getting Cairo in the tree of woe, a double drop kick by the vile duo put Cairo back down to the mat, and far away from his corner and the tag to his waiting partner. Melanie side slammed Cairo, and followed it with a catapult into a clothesline by Kanoa. Kanoa in next attempted another tiltawhirl, but Cairo countered into a bulldog, into a crossface, but Kanoa would not tap. As both men returned to their feet, Kanoa locked in a bearhug, but Cairo faught out to make a tag, but the ref wasn't looking when it happened. Traci being blocked from entering the ring by the ref allowed for more double teaming by Kanoa and Melanie. Cairo hit a bulldog to regain some momentum, and then went to the second rope, but as he came off, Kanoa caught him and nailed a vicious belly to belly overhead suplex. Both men tagged out to the women in their corners, and then rolled to the outside to continue fighting, eventually fighting their way back down the entrance and into the locker rooms. Inside the ring Traci speared Melanie for a 2 count, then hit a hairdrag face plant for the pinfall. Cairo returned from the back with his home/carboard box in hand, and invited Traci to go home with him as the two celebrated their way to the back.
The final match of the night was the World Title bout between Champion Terry Allen and challenger Eric Freedom. The crowd was 100% behind TA (self included). Freedom tried to attack TA from behind, but TA cut him off with a flurry of punches, sending him to the outside where TA locked him in a full nelson, and brought him around the front row- giving everyone a shot at chopping the "hardcore hippy" down to size, even allowing me a little shot at revenge (thanks Terry). TA slid Freedom back into the ring, and then dragged him crotch first into the ringpost twice, then slammed his knee against the post a couple times. TA climbed back into the ring and used the damage he had just done to set up for the sharpshooter, but Freedom got to the ropes to break the hold. Freedom to his feet in the corner as TA went for a splash, but Freedom moved and hit TA with the back cracker, followed by a headbutt below the belt. Freedom chopped TA, but TA hit a middle of the top rope sit down springboard moonsault for a 2 count. Freedom countered with a snap suplex for a 2 count of his own. A drop toe hold put TA into the ropes, and Freedom climbed outside, grabbed a drink from a fan's hand, and smashed it over TA's head. Freedom headlocked TA on the mat, and kept using the ropes to synch it in deeper, but TA recovered, and knocked Freedom to the outside, following it with a baseball slide to the face. Letting Freedom get back in the ring, TA hit a splash from across the ring, but Freedom quickly switched into a kryptonite crunch set up, knocking out the ref as he swung TA around, and then nailing TA's head to the mat. A 3 count went by, but the ref was still down. TA used Freedom's distraction to leave the openning for another sharpshooter, but the ref still was not up. Freedom attacked again as TA tried to wake the ref. With TA knocked out as well, Sandra D came into the ring to try to protect her man, which sent Freedom to his corner to pull out a colapsable night stick he hid in his jacket, stalking Sandra, she dropped down and nailed him in his "froot loops" shall we say? and he dropped the stick, which she then picked up and threatened him with. Freedom noticed the ref coming to, and dropped the the mat yelling that she'd hit him (which she was likely going to do, but hadn't yet) giving the ref no choice but to call for the bell, and give the dq win to Freedom, though the belt stays with TA.
The two men continued to fight as the locker room cleared out to keep them apart. Jimmy Blaze came out with a mic and announced that since Freedom had technically won the match, he would get a rematch for the Title at King of the Royals.
Also announced was AHN getting another shot at the Tag Titles at KOTR against whoever the champs might be.
But before KOTR's takes place, TA and Freedom will both get to pick their challenger's opponents for next week!
